Hi guys, I noticed that my round swingarm chain guide has split in half and I was wondering can I just replace that or do I have to also get a bearing rebuilt kit?

 

any info is much appreciated

You can just replace that piece..They make 1 that bolts together so you dont have to take your swingarm off and another that you take off your swingarm and put the slider on the swing arm tube..Here is one where you take the singer lose, couldnt find a pic of the other type. Hope it helps ya man

If you get that one off they have replacements that are much better. Look around and you can find one that splits so you do not have to remove the swingarm to replace. Try Rocky Mountain I seen them somewhere.

 

If you do replace with stock or other type that doesn't split, then yea, you would be better off replacing bearings while you have it off. If its been a while.

well its a 04 and I have no idea when the last time it was changed or if it has ever been changed.

 

I have a feeling its going to be a bitch to do but hopefully I'm wrong

Yep thats it, should have all different colors. Put your quad up on a lift, just get the pressure off the swingarm.

Grab a hold of the rear of swingarm and pull side to side and see if you can feel any play, not the axle but the swingarm itself. If you feel any at all, it could prolly use new bearings.

so if I got this kind of chain slide I don't have to take the swingarm off as long as the bearing are ok?

Don't sweat pulling the swingarm pivot bolt to get that. Its very easy, and its not like the thing falls apart once oyu pull the bolt. Support the center of the quad just enough to get the back tires about an inch off the ground. Leave the chain and shock attached, and pull the pivot bolt. You can finess the swingarm the tiny bit that you need to expose the end of that swingarm with the slider. Pull it off, and put a freshly greased version (if its stock it rotates and needs some lube) back on and slide the bolt back in. It takes literally 30 minutes from walking out your door to do it, to cracking a beer and knowing that your all thats man.
