c zappy r Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 (edited) Ill start off by telling you what happened, I was out riding my 2000 stock banshee for a couple hours and everything was fine, then all of a sudden it was like i had to power band or power. So I shut the bike off to check my plugs, what I found was on the right cylinder spark plug that the center electrode fell out of the plug. so i thought no big deal it might of just went out through the exhaust. so I put a new plug in and when looking at exhaust of the bike the left exhaust there was verily any smoke coming out and the right side seemed to be fine. So I take the bike home, take the head off and find that on the left piston there was a small divot and right beside the divot on the cylinder wall was a 1/2" wide scar. its not deep enough to feel if your run you finger around in it when your not looking at it. Some of the things i was wondering is could this be honed out and if anything just get over sized rings. thoughts comments anything will help. thanks chuck Edited February 9, 2009 by c zappy r Quote

huskyohilux Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Take the jugs to a machine shop. Hopefully a hone will be sufficient and you won't have to get OD pistons. Hone both cylinders and put new pistons in. The scratches on the cylinder wall probably came from a minor seizure...the engine got too hot maybe causing the electrode to melt? The loss of compression makes the bike to feel like it's lacking power Better find out what happened first so it doesn't happen again... Air leak, lean condition??? Quote
c zappy r Posted February 9, 2009 Author Report Posted February 9, 2009 i think the scratches on the sidewall came from that divot, its almost right on the edge of the piston, i had to cut the picture down could only load 50kb, so there is a chance that the scartches on the sidewall didnt cause my bike to mess up? c zappy r Posted February 9, 2009 Author Report Posted February 9, 2009 well after sitting here lookin at this cylinder and takin in your guys helpful comments i noticed on the outside of the left cylender on the right sideof it where the reeds are on the top and bottem corners there are 2 holes looks like it kinda blew from the inside out... not sure but could this be a air leak problem? KEVSWS6 Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 You can check for air leaks with carb cleaner. Spray the carb cleaner at all spots that mate together while the bike is idling. If you have a leak the bike will die or come close to it from ingesting the carb cleaner. Quote

swrbansheeboy Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 (edited) i would do a leak down test with a guage and plugs. i've dont the carb cleaner test and didnt come up with anything but had it leak when i did the actual leak down test. it definatly sounds like you have a leak somewhere causing that cylider to heat up, if you lost the center electrode from the plug it sounds like it was running hot and started detonating. generaly if you are cracking the porcelain out of your plugs it's a detonation problem. so i'm confused now, you had the electrode break out of your right cylinder and replaced the plug and it ran fine but then you found the wear problem in your left cylinder or did you bust the plugs on both cylinders? it definatly sounds like a detonation problem but i'm wondering if it's only on one cylinder or both.
