bonbon Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 that is definatly the way I would go if i were to do it again, spend the little extra money now than having to pay more when you want to go bigger again, you will want more after you get used to the new power. True. I went from stock to a stock stroke cub now to a 4 mil 485 cheetah currently being built. Still want a 10 mil just not the right time for it yet. I know I'll want more power. Quote
donkeypuncher Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Well it looks as if it is unanimous, get the porting done ... Now the age old battle of Jeff or Kevin ... Thanks everyone !!! ~DaVe my vote goes to to kevin at HJR, he did a dune port on my cylinders and i couldnt have asked for better results or a better guy to deal with. but thats just MHO, i guess the only real way to decide is to contact both of them and go with whomever you feel most comfortable with. best of luck! Quote
BumpaD_Z28 Posted January 30, 2009 Author Report Posted January 30, 2009 Or a Dune ported 4 mill for an extra $400  that is definatly the way I would go if i were to do it again, spend the little extra money now than having to pay more when you want to go bigger again, you will want more after you get used to the new power. Well I thought about doing a stroker (I have a 388 ci SBC, and working on a 496 BBC) BUT I just need to throw the Banshee together this time without splitting the cases ... $$$ is sorta a issue, so that is why the questions about porting. I just don't think I can leave that much power (from the porting) on the table, since I have the cylinders off ... ~DaVe Quote
flotek Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 most any competant shop will be able to port for low-top rpms , theres a lot of myths about porting on the net ,the biggest is probably that it will kill relibaility ,next is the concern of a lightswitch powerband .a professional builder will be able to avoid those issues . gregrob Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 I'd go with the builder in this thread who offered advice instead of pimping himself and taking subtle pot shots at other builders. Quote
BigRed350x Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 I'd go with kevin in a heartbeat if I had to choose between the two builders listed. I'll toss another one out there for you to consider, but you have to just call and talk to him to figure out what he's charging for prices now-a-days. Eric Gorr. If you want a low-end or mid-range port job he's the man to see. But yeah, Kevin at HJR won't steer you wrong. I've seen his porting first-hand and he does good work. - Jared Quote

HUH, I guess I'm not observant enough to pick up on any "pot shots" in this thread ... So far Kevin, Jeff, and Flotek have all been VERY helpful, ... and now that I feel comfortable with getting the porting done, I am VERY excited to get it back together and see how many lengths (I hope) that I can pull on the High comp pistoned & hot cammed 450's I bought my 'SHEE (used) Feb 8th 2007, so I think I had better get the parts sent somewhere this week for it's 3rd birthday THANKS ALL !!! ~DaVe Quote
