eagle Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 I was looking into upgrading to a cub or maybe a cheetah motor. I was curious if cool heads and domes for stock cylinders are interchangeable to the cub or cheetah? What series pistons would be used in the cub or cheetahs? All the Cheetahs I have seen use a casted head, is that all that is available for them? Also, what is the max bore you can get in a cub cylinder? I have heard a bit about "super cubs" but have no idea what they are. What is the difference? Quote
Handyman Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 Any head that can bolt to the stock cylinder will bolt onto a cub set up. The max bore is 72mm but that is considered a super cub. Any piston that you can put in the cylinder will work but people have their own preferences as to what piston to use. the cheetah cylinder has parts ONLY for the cheetah....like the head, and reeds cannont be used from a stock or cub set up.. the reeds have to come from a TRX250 or a cr250. The head is specific to the cylinder and will come with the cheetah cylinder if yo buy one. The max more on the cheetah will bepend on what size crank you go with i think the max bore up the 7mm is 68mm and from there it goes to 72mm but with the 10mm and larger Quote
shanYE west Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 the super cub cannot use the stock head. only the standard cubs can use the stock head. but will require big bore domes for the 68mm versions. Quote

gregrob Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 The supercub uses, a supercub head, oddly enough.... http://www.rdzracing.com/RDZ_Super_Cub_Package_.htm Quote
rubberneck Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 The 65 mm bore cub uses banshee style pistons. The 68mm cub uses blaster pistons. The cub uses stock with cut chambers for style of piston or "coolhead" with appropriate domes. The supercub uses a supercub head which is similar in appearance to a standard coolhead and i believe the bore is 72mm. I know noss makes supercub heads which would obviously require appropriate domes to go with it. The cheetah uses a cheetah specific head, and like mentioned above the 250 reed cages/intakes and has the added benefit of coming in a powervalve version. Bang for the buck everybody is going to tell you to go with a 4mil cub (421) Requires no modifications to the cases (Crank drops right in and no boring of upper case for larger bore) and uses standard banshee components such as intakes/reeds etc. HP in the 80-100 Hp range depending on porting/fuel/pipes is possible. You will want 35-39mm carbs and high rpm pipes such as shearer or CPI etc. Keep in mind you are going to need a better clutch and a lockup and override would be recomended. More than likely you would want a longer swingarm so keep that in the budget as well. You better budget about 4K to do everything new and right. Can save some dough shopping on here. Quote
sheefreak Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 RK TEK and a few others make a billet head for the Cheetah. There are a lot of bore sizes for the cheetah, even a few at 78 before they changed the intake and called them a DM. Quote
shanYE west Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 I used Banshee pistons in my 68mm cub. All depends on the dome configuration. Although the blaster pistons are the more popular choice. Quote
2001Stroker Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 I don't know about older versions, but the heads on the new Cheetah PV's come with removable domes. I haven't been able to find an aftermarket coolhead, but you can change out the domes, to get different ratios. And not only is the size different, but it has it's own bolt pattern. EDIT: I just seen that sheefreak posted that RK TEK makes billet heads for the Cheetah. I'm gonna have to check that out. You have a link to them? Quote
eagle Posted January 23, 2009 Author Report Posted January 23, 2009 So- 65mm cub = 795s or 513s depending on rod length 68mm cub = 795s, 513s, or blasters depending on rod and head design. Cheetah is what? Quote

Their products are top notch. http://www.2strokeheads.com/Banshee.htm Quote
