csparks13 Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 I just got a 98 banshee from a friend. Runs great starts everytime. It sat up in his garage for 6 years. About a year ago he had the carbs cleaned and a few other minor things done to get it running again. I want to make sure I check everything before I start riding it. I'm going to grease all the points and check the rest of the fluids as well. What are some other things I should check? I not looking to add mods just yet. I just want to make sure it's in good condition. What type of oil should I run? The chain needs some lube as well. Any suggestions on that would be great also. I've only owned 4 strokes before which is less to worry about. I just don't want to over look something and regret it later. Any advice is appreciated. Also is there anything I can do to make the kick start jingle stop? It's pretty loud. Quote

You can order a rebuild kit from Cascade Innovations, but it will come back over time... You can run YamaLube (make sure it's not outboard oil...), Klotz, Castor 927...there's a bunch. I like to mix it 32:1, that is 4 ounces of oil per every gallon of 93 octane. If you have compression checker, check the compression of each cylinder. Are the fluids new, or 6 years old? Quote
lowbuckracing Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 Chain lube .for the chain.....Drain the oil out of motor and replace with oil recomended by manufacture.checkcc for recomded fluid allowance or a quart of 10 /30 motor oil is what I use..find out if he has ran synthetic oil in it before or not,for the gas and case.Dont mix them up.run your gas at a recomended 32-1 to ensure your engines safety..I always mix at 40-1 klotz, but yamalube has never failed me either..clean your air filter with soap and water, wait untill it dries and spray with a filter spray lightly. It goes along way.Always carry 2 spark plugs and a wrench with you, b8es plug size.drain radiator fluid and fill with a premixed 50/50.for your starter, contact fast racing or Jeff here on the HQ to order you a rebuild kit for your kicker.Good luck and have fun on the 2 stroke! I really appreciate all the help. I'm not sure when the fluids were changed last. There is a good chance it's stock fluid knowing the guy I got it from. He bought it new and never really rode it. Not the type of guy that spends time in the garage if you know what I mean. Maybe I should change all the fluids just to be safe. Should I change the brake fluid as well? I was checking out the sprockets and noticed there is a plastic ring by the motor that the chain rub. It doesnt look very secured. Just kinda rolls around loosly. Is this norman? I can post a pic latet of the part if needed. I'm going to order a k&n filter next. Baby on the way so I'm just keeping it basic for now. Quote
messer007 Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 I would recommend running castor 927 oil with your gas mix it 3.5 - 4 oz. to every gallon of gas and youll be fine and ud might as well get use to that kicker jigglin its a banshee lol...good luck with the 2 stroke id never had one til about year and half ago and I love it youll save so muh money when it comes to rebuilding it unlike a 4 stroke Quote
