Jaguar Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 If someone raises their exhaust port 2 mm then is a small raising (~ .5mm) of the transfer port helpful also? Quote
blowit Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 If someone raises their exhaust port 2 mm then is a small raising (~ .5mm) of the transfer port helpful also? Depends a bunch on what you are trying to achieve. Brandon Quote
Snopczynski Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Typically you want to try and match exhaust duration and transfer duration so they optimize output at the same rpm. This number is going to be affected by a few things. So what you asked is sort of a broad question. Quote
Jaguar Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Posted January 5, 2009 well, for a high rpm banshee how should the transfers match the raised exhaust port? Quote
Snopczynski Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 well, for a high rpm banshee how should the transfers match the raised exhaust port? Seriously??? We would need to know rod length, stroke, base gasket thickness, piston size (795m, blaster), etc...... Mapping a motor cant be done just over a couple forum posts on the internet. Even pipes, carbs, transfer port width, height, and how much you dig out of the transfer tunnels can be affected by your setup and what you want to do. Are you porting this yourself? Quote
blowit Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 well, for a high rpm banshee how should the transfers match the raised exhaust port? To be honest with you, you may want to poke around the site a bit more for more info regarding measured ports vs what we are really looking at which is port open duration in degrees of rotation. Do plenty of research before you cut. Rod angle has a specific effect on duration that is not linear with relation to port height. Brandon Quote
Jaguar Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Posted January 5, 2009 It's for a friends Banshee overseas. I'll see what info I can dig up from this site. thanks guys! Quote

Looks like you are a new user and not trying to beat you up over your question. There is a ton of info on the site though and the search functions work good. I think I have personally touched on this stuff around 100 times by now. We port and build engines. I will say, as I do to most though, it really pays to be informed. Books and more books. Sounds more like you are not trying to be a port master but rather make something run a little better. Do some homework here and you should find what you need or report back with further questions. firebanshee Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 I am no porting expert by any means, but i have raised my exhaust 2mils and my transfers 1 mil and it worked pretty good for a backyard port job. Not as good as a cylinder that has been mapped out and set up professionally though. Quote
