donkeypuncher Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 yeah i'd say a real fine steel wool and a chrome polish to help protect it. Quote
robbo350 Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 yeh ive had the same thing with my FMFs and i wet sanded with 600grit then went to 1200 and metal polish, that got rid of all the rust etc and theyve come up like new. cheers Quote
278 Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 Here's what I did to mine and if you read all the way throught the post, at the end you'll see I just added a 500 degree clear coat on top of the black... The came out great. Ceramic Coating Quote
blaster2006 Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 cool that there is someone from dubai on this forum. halla sa3ood im from bahrain used to live in dubai for 7 years , nice shee Quote
RollinRhino Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 Here is what I did and it works: Take your pipes to a sand blasting place. Take them down to the metal. Take a soaking wet cloth of lacquer thinner and wipe them down. Then take brake caliper paint to them and it never comes off. Or you can use that new VHT paint that is good to 2000 degrees. Quote
peterlocal22 Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 i used steel wool but it was for light rust on my chrome pipes Quote
shogs Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 How do you put that paint on? Is it just a spray on that you do multiple lairs of or do you have to bake it or something? Quote
RollinRhino Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 The VHT paint has to be baked on. Brake calipre paint does not. You do need to layer both types however in thin coats. Quote
AKheathen Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 The VHT paint has to be baked on. Brake calipre paint does not. You do need to layer both types however in thin coats. caloper paint is only for like400-500 degrees, but you always go for 3x what's needed. my friend did his tips on his tahoe and they went black in less than a week, and it wasn't just deposits, because we tried ckeaning it, and it was the paint that actually cooked. the best thing for chrome is #0000 steel wool, and some chrome cleaner/polish. no polish is going to hold up against heat because it's just a silicate. if you have it preped good, they can be re-chromed for like $50- or maybey cheaper where you're at. the higher the nickle, the better it will hold up against rust and schratching, heat as well. i belive a tripple nickle plating won't rust. if you want it simple, just polish real quick when you store it. i would throw some headder paint, or high heat engine enamel on the stinger pipes though. just my thaughts on the matter  Quote
AKheathen Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 take a look at the t5's in the for sale section. steel wool would take care of that verry easily Quote
