I recently had port work done to my bike. I always check my chain, sprockets, axle nut, etc., as well as everything else on my bike after and during every ride. The last time I went out riding hard, the chain was a little loose but I figured it was alright for one more ride before tightening it. I rode all day and was doing wheelies and riding it hard. Last night it snowed hard and took it for a light ride around the streets(without checking it). I did a doughnut and felt the chain skip. I looked at the front sprocket and noticed it's rounded off. It looked fine before the last time I rode it hard. My question is, could it get rounded like this from one ride with a more powerful engine and a loose chain? The only problem I've had with a stock engine, was breaking teeth off from a mis-aligned chain. These teeth look all uniform and rounded. The chain looks aligned. It's not a name brand sprocket either. It just seemed to happen rather quickly. SORRY for the long winded post but just wanted to explain it correctly. Also, any name brand sprockets that you would suggest. THANKS ALOT for any replies and taking the time to read this long ass post.

The teeth are rounded, not the chain. So I guess what I'm saying is, since I got the engine work, should I buy a certain brand of sprocket or did I just blow it by not tightening the chain at that time? I have a spare front Sun-Star sprocket that I'll use if that's the case.

no they round over time but yah the loose chain does alot. if ur chain is tight u shouldnt have to worrie about it skipping but as far as getting a new sprokte whats it going to hurt its going to be new. as far as kined i always ran renthal sprokets but a cheap 1 will do just fine

i never heard of a sprocket rounding from one ride. must have been real worn but that last ride with the chain loose finished it off.

Yeah, it's not like it was brand new before the last ride but VERY noticably after. Probably just finished it off like you said. Any input on sprocket upgrades after engine work would still be appreciated.

sounds like the chain has been stretched for a while.the teeth on the sprocket takes a while to break off they will start to curve as there getting thin from the chain skipping.i would say you have been needing a chain for a while.

How about chain replacements? Are sidewinders, etc. worth the money or do they wear out as fast as a cheaper O-Ring?

I have destroyed more than one cheap chain and sprocket in one ride. I have had the best luck with the factory ones. If you have much power and a cheap chain or sproket and you run it loose it will not take long to ruin it. I dont run the factory chain but myself and all my buddies do run factory sprokets.

So, you've had luck with factory sprockets, what chain have you found to work well?

I have had really good luck with factory sprockets. My buddies and i all run the primary drive x ring chain and have good luck with those also. I am sure everyone has there own choice in chains but those have worked well for us. We buy them from rocky mountain atv.

wel put dirtfreak. Old stretched chain will do it pretty damn quick.... as far as a replacement, go Regina Gold! lol It is an o-ring chain and i have replaced stock chains but haven ever replaced me regina's yet.
