redcougy Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Can anyone out there help me, I am confused. I am new into banshees. I have a 97' Banshee with the only mod being T3 pipes with T5 stingers. I still have the stock airbox with stock filter, I plan on getting the K&N filter down the road when I get some $$ The issue I am having is that when I accidently installed the slides into my stock carbs the wrong way (The tapperd end towards the engine so that you cant see the dot thru the little glass window) my banshee will generally start on the first or second kick. But when I try to install the slides the correct way as the manual indicates (Tappered end towards the air filter and the dot being visible thru the glass window) my banshee will not start at all. Can anybody make any sence of this. I have not changed my jets yet, I asume they are stock jets. The quad used to run with stock pipes before when my uncle owned it, but was left out side covered with a tarp for about 5 years. It used to be his wifes quad until the clutch basket springs all that shattered and locked up on him. He told me that if I could get it up and running again that he would let me have it since he has his own already. Quote
1.6i Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 what did you do to it when you installed the slides backwards? is the bike properly jetted for those pipes? If it started with the slides backwards and doesnt start with them the correct way means its not getting enough fuel.. Did you fully clean the carbs already? Quote
firebanshee Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Choke tube on? the 2 1/2 inch hose that hooks between the carbs. Quote
278 Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 I would check your jet size too, because the stock main jets are 210, whenever you do something that alows it to breathe better you have to go up in jet size, with aftermarket pipes, depending on your elevation should be somewhere around 270, if it's stock jets your dangerously lean and need to take care of that before you seize the motor... that could also be why it's not starting because theres a point where you can lack enough fuel to where it won't start Quote

You mains are to small thats your problem. Living were you are you need a 270 to 290 main jet for the way your bike is setup. You put some bigger mains in it and you will fix your problem. Quote

This is great info guys. I beleive the jetting is all stock, I will figure out where all this jets are and will double check them, I thought I would wait and get the K&N air filter before getting different jets but I guess now I will change these as soon as I find them. I dont how ever see any 2 1/2" hose that connects both carbs. I will have to look into that as well. You guys are awsome! Quote
