kawiking Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 get rid of the tors... i know on bigger carbs,u can trim the spring down to make it softer. but i d get a second opinion on that.. Quote
HAUSERSMOTORSPORTS Posted November 28, 2008 Author Report Posted November 28, 2008 so you cant trim them without getting rid of the tors? Quote
brian Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 I have 35mm carbs. The springs might as well be on the suspension holding the damn bike up. After trimming the springs and not getting much better I changed to a twist throttle. It's alot better now. I never had that much trouble with the stock carbs though. But the tors were removed. I agree ^^^. Get rid of those tors. Get a tors removal kit with a new cable. Quote
2001Stroker Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 so you cant trim them without getting rid of the tors? No, he was just saying to get rid of the TORS. That should free up a little bit of pressure. With bigger carbs, you can trim the spring. He doesn't know if you can do the same to stock carbs. And, neither do I. I have a Moose thumb throttle, and like it. Helped take some of the tension off. The Chariot Performance thumb throttle is also a nice peice. Should help too. Quote
HAUSERSMOTORSPORTS Posted November 28, 2008 Author Report Posted November 28, 2008 when you remove the tors isnt there something else you have to do to your carbs? wasnt it drilling and tapping a hole for the idle screw?then everything else is bolt on? Quote

Don't quote me on this. But I think when you remove the TORS, you don't have to drill and tap the tops. From what I understand, not drilling and tapping will just cause it to have a little bit of a high idle. Quote
brian Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 To do it right you will need to drill and tap the carb body for idle screws. It really isn't that hard to do. If you don't you will be adjusting the idle with the cables. That will cause the idle to rise whenever you turn the handlebars to one side. It can be done that way but it is not the right way and you won't be happy with it. I tried it when I had stock carbs on mine ! There should be instructions on the procedure in the kit. If that isn't enough info do a search on the forum board. There have been tons of threads on the subject. You will also have to cut a couple wires to the old tors system. Also not a big deal as that has been covered as well. Don't be afraid of it. We will help you out if you get in a jam ! You will be happy with it when you are done. Search Repairs and Mods board for "tors removal" Quote
HAUSERSMOTORSPORTS Posted November 29, 2008 Author Report Posted November 29, 2008 yea it aint that big of a deal. i have to get a flywheel puller because the stator is bad so for now im going to have to live with it. after i bought that stator im freaking broke! Quote
AKheathen Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 yea it aint that big of a deal. i have to get a flywheel puller because the stator is bad so for now im going to have to live with it. after i bought that stator im freaking broke! take the top off the throttle lever. depress the lever all the way and hold the cable arm out. the thumb lever should moove freely. if not, loosen the lock nut untill it does, and make sure it's lubed good with lubriplate, dri-slide, or some other open lubricant. if that nut's overtightened, it will be very stiff, but if the lever has a lot of play, you should replace it. just something to check  Quote
HAUSERSMOTORSPORTS Posted November 29, 2008 Author Report Posted November 29, 2008 just tried that and everything checked out ok. once i get some cash im going to get rid of the tors. Quote
