Recently bought a mid 90's shee with an 88 engine....

Engine was stock.....I replaced the pipes with Paul Turner Mid ranges...rode it for tops 30 minutes in spurts without rejetting...ordered a jet kit....

Replaced 200 jets with 270's.....went down the road seemed to be running a lot richer ...went to my friends house 1/2 mile down the road....pulled in the drive and it froze up....

Premix i run is 32:1 for a lil added protection...guess not....

Took the cylinders apart.....two tiny metal pieces on top of the right cylinder....dome on LEFT side was chewed up from possibly a past problem....RIGHT side a a few nicks in it nothing catostrophic....took apart further

RIGHT side crank/rod bearing frozen onto crank......LEFT side free.....

Cylinder walls are clean, rings are fine.....tops of pistons are fine.......

What went wrong....could it have been existing.......or was it from runnin it on the 200's? never showed any signs of damage while riding it with them...

Depending on what ALL is done to the engine, etc., could be still lean on the jetting, could have other mechanical problems....

Mid 90's bike with a 88 engine, who knows what else has been frankenstein'd onto the bike..

Ouch... Sorry to hear about that.

At least you have a chance to put in a nice new welded crank and a fresh top end.

it was probly the jetts but it could of been a bad bearing..

Yea, so now the question is how reliable are the 4mm stroker kits??? I want it to be pretty fast, but reliable, also how difficult is the rebuild going to be....I am used to v8's

4mm is a great setup. Nothing unreliable about it. Just remember that when you get one, you have to get the ports matched, and either a spacer plate under the jugs or machined domes. Also a good idea to get it welded.

They are pretty reliable if built right.

You will need to do some porting to convert to a 4mil.

You will also need to get a set of domes for a 4mil and a

coolhead if you don't already have one.

The build should be no problem. Banshee engines are easy.

Get a Clymers manual it will be a big help for the build and

other things as you go.
