So I just installed my new motor and carbs and am having trouble with getting it to run correctly. It will start fight up, idle and rev in neutral.... as soon as I put it in gear and try to go, it bogs down and wants to die, wont make any power. My carbs are also pouring gas out throught the over flow tubes and I've got raw fuel coming from the exhaust.

The carbs are stock mikunis converted professionally to alcohol. I though at first that maybe the floats were stuck causing them to overflow, but I pulled the bowls off and they're fine. I did notice that there is now only one side to the float and no splash bowl.

Also running V-Force 2 reeds.

The motor has a stage III port, lightened flywheel, shaved head, 40 over bore, all machine work done by A&S and +4 timing. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can try?

You say gas but then say Alky. It will start with gas and idle but it will not go anywhere if the carbs are set up for Alky. The floats and needle and seat tend to get stuck a lot with alky. You have to keep the carbs clean and flush them right away when finished with alky.

It is starting and running on alky, sorry I was unclear.... The floats and needle seem to be fine, any other suggestions. Thanks!

Who built the carbs? Go back and get some help from him. I would need to know the main jet size and what power jet you using if any. What needle and pilot.

That's only if the bike is running good to begin with.

You may also want to check the floats for pin hole leaks. Take a lighter and run it over the floats, out of the bike of course. You will hear and see the hole if you have one. I had the same problem and it took forever to find it.

What kind of spark plugs? Did you gap them down for alky?

What is your compression? Did you do a leak down test? What is your timing at?

I personally think for alky you're wasting time with stock carbs, but you should be able to get it to run...

I have seen this micky mouse set-up before where the cut 1 of the floats off inside the bowl to allow for the bowl to hold more alcohol, it causes the float ti lift un-even and the needle to not seat square in the seat itself causing the bowls to overfill.... try turning your fuel pump off (i am assuming you are running a fuel pump) see if it still does it, sometimes the fule pump pushes to much pressure for only 1 float also.

I personally don't think that any of these things could lead to the carbs overflowing with fuel..... besides using the stock carbs which that statement is on the money...

Yeah, but they can all cause it to run like shit.

Thanks for all the help guys.... I've had a buddy of mine trying to help me with this and have looked at all of the above, still can't get it. Decided to move on and bought a set of 34mm PJ Alky's from 87sheerips and we're throwing em on tonight.... wish me luck!
