Okay, I'm just about ready to have my cylinders ported by HJR. I was telling my friend who has built a few bikes and he said a port job is wasting time unless I port the case too. What is he talking about?

it won't be a waste of time at all. You will still notice a big difference over stock, depending on what port job you get but porting the top case half is just another step you can take to make it run even better, alot of people get their cylinders ported and don't touch the top case half in the trails world. Im guessing thats what your getting, or maybe a dune port.

I'm gettin a dune / hillshooter port to go with my CPI pipes. In the spring I'll start to get parts to build it into a 4mil. But for now I only wanted to port it.

To port the cases or "port match" the cases to the cylinders is when after you port the cylinders on the transfers end of it there is sometimes a lip from the cases to the cylinders. Now every port job is not the same. It just depends on what port job and who did it. Oh, always match your cylinder gaskets too.

if your planning on doing a 4mill wait to get the port work, the porting is going to be done different for a 4mill,

if you dont have the cases ported it will still make a serious difference in power.i wouldnt say it would be a waste of time at all.
