bansheejoel Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 (edited) i have some light purple coloring on my crank by where the lower connecting rod bearing is, its not on the conecting rod its on the counter weight or w/e it is on the crank. it got hot but its not purple around the bearing and the bearing is still tight and smooth...i think it ran to lean which blew the same piston...should the bearing be fine? thanks Edited September 29, 2008 by bansheejoel Quote
bansheejoel Posted September 29, 2008 Author Report Posted September 29, 2008 anyone? its in my sled and a new damn crank is $1300 Quote
bansheejoel Posted September 29, 2008 Author Report Posted September 29, 2008 yeah my damn camera batteries are dead so there on the charger Quote
sheerider1026 Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 if the bearing feels fine like you say i would oil it up while you have it apart, and run it.. just cause it got hot doesn't mean that it hurt it Quote
bansheejoel Posted September 29, 2008 Author Report Posted September 29, 2008 here is a pic, the purple doesnt touch the actual bearing so i dont think the bearing is what was putting off the heat. That side got toasted by the previous owner Quote
LS1Inferno Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 anyone? pics ar too small to tell usually discoloration means it got hot as hell. Quote
bansheejoel Posted September 29, 2008 Author Report Posted September 29, 2008 oh yeah i know it got hot but i dont know what caused it since the bearing feels good Quote
LS1Inferno Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 oh yeah i know it got hot but i dont know what caused it since the bearing feels good well that doesnt always mean its good. unfortunatly. Quote

spurdy Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 yeah i know a new crank for it is damn near $1300 and there a bitch to find used....how would i be able to check if its good? If it isn't near the bearing, could it be from the crank being tig welded? According to your first post it sounds like that is the location you are describing. SP Quote
J-Madd Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 If the bearing is good, I would run it. Quote
bansheejoel Posted September 29, 2008 Author Report Posted September 29, 2008 (edited) some other people are telling me its where arctic cat puts the crank together at, b/c the crank is a few differnt pieces pressed together or somthing. And i was thinking, wouldnt the rod itself turn color first if it was the bearing that was putting off the heat since the rod is in direct contact with the bearing and what turned purple was about 3/8" away from the actual bearing Edited September 29, 2008 by bansheejoel Quote
