What do you think of my jetting set up?
dailydrifter replied to dailydrifter's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
Thanks for the replies. I'll try a 30 and do a plug chop when I get it all back together. Would the damaged reeds I was previously using cause the wet plugs? -
Currently running FMF SST pipes with powercore 2 silencers, VF4 reeds, K&N pod filters with no air box, bored over (not sure how far), Wiseco pistons, Elevation is around 800', temperature range from 62-90. 290 main, 25 pilot and clip is in the 4th position from the bottom. I only had this banshee for a short time before completely tearing it down and refreshing everything but I was able to get a couple good rides in before I started the restoration and I noticed that the mid range is very weak and then comes on very strong on the top end compared to the mid range. Also before I took it for a ride I put fresh plugs in and pulled them afterwards and noticed that they were blackish and wet looking. If the consensus is that my jetting needs to be changed id like to do it now while I still have the carbs off. Ive already cleaned the carbs inside and out, repacked the heavily saturated packing in the silencers, and switched from VF2 to VF4 because the reeds for the VF2 were very slightly cracked in a couple spots and when held up to the light there were small gaps in a couple of them where day light would shine through.

I have to say it looks really good to me. I looked hard for flaws and I couldn't see anything that jumped out at me. I realize though its hard to judge paint quality in pictures. Either way I think you will get a lot of compliments on it. Why did you choose to leave all the unnecessary tabs on the frame? -
Welded the rear brackets today. I used a stick welder because thats all I had access too and wow that was tricky. Used a 6013 1/16 rod at 45 amps and practiced on some scrap metal first until I felt confident I could do the brackets without burning through. Turned out OK.

I was planning on running full rear fenders but while cutting off the rest of the unused brackets I noticed that the tabs for the rear fenders are cracked at the bottom welds. So now im not sure if ill just cut those off aswell and run race cuts or weld them up. Bottom Pic shows a cracked weld for the rear fender tab.

Ive already cut all the other brackets off that I dont need except the ones in the pics. Ill go cut those last ones off and call it a day. Thanks for the quick replies!

Im cutting all the unused tabs off my frame and i have all the ones I dont need identified with the exception of 2. What are these used for? The tabs furthest back are the ones im not sure about. Also the ones just ahead are for a flag right? Why are there 2? In this pic its the tab with the bolt still in it that im not sure what its used for.

Thanks for the input guys!

I pulled the reeds out and they are frayed and need to be replaced. So should I buy new reeds for the Vforce2 which F.A.S.T has for 100$ for both sets or go with the VF4 for 200? I ride 90% in the woods with deep gullies so lots of hill climbs and tight turns. I will definitely be ditching the boost bottle for a crossover tube as well. While i have it apart ill do a liquid penetration test of the intake boots to see if the boost bottle has already cracked them.

Ok I just looked up the V force 2's which till right now I didnt know existed and that must be what they are. Thanks for the replies

So a little while ago I bought a 03 banshee and I have been going over it doing all the little maintenance things and replacing a few things here and there. Today I was removing the FMF sst pipes for shot blasting and VHT paint and I noticed that the V Force reed cage housing was what looks like aluminum with a purple logo. Normally I would think nothing of it but I saw a pic on this forum of another V Force and it was black. So I did a quick google search and came up with this. http://www.bansheedepot.com/proddetail.asp?prod=V301A So if you clicked on that link at the top it says " Delta V Force 3 Reed Cage for Superior Sleeve Cylinders" So another google search came up with this http://www.superiorsleeve.com . So I guess my question now is does this engine have some sort of big bore kit? The jugs look factory to me. Can anyone shed some light on what this is all about?

Well thats different. Ill try to get a hold of Ohlins and see if they can figure out exactly what I have here
-
Also noticed these today. I assume its a aftermarket spacer kit because my old blaster and my YFZ450 didnt have spacers like this. They are 1.5" thick.
-
With out me on it they measure 12 1/4" eye to eye and when i jack it up so the suspension hangs free they measure 13 1/2".
-
Just finished this procedure and wow what a difference. The compression screw was a couple clicks away from being as hard as possible when i started and now its like a completely different machine.
-
Ill definitely try that out tomorrow. It would be great if i can get them to a usable state without having to send them out. Thanks for the info.

Not very. They are super stiff so i know i can back off the spring pre load but the previous owner was a heavy set guy and im atleast 80lbs lighter so im thinking even if i back it all the way off it still wont be enough. And backing the pre load off will also lower the front end correct? Not sure I want to loose clearance in the front

Thanks for the quick reply! I guess i was mistaken then I was under the impression that some did. I guess i got a bonus on this one

Hey guys i am new to the forum and this is my first post. I have been poking around the forum for a while because i just bought my first banshee and I have been trying to learn as much about this beast of a quad as I can. I have not been able to figure out though whether or not my 2003 shee special edition has factory shocks or are these aftermarket? I know some banshees came with ohlins but im not sure if mine was one of them. Also are these things worth reworking for my weight or are they not worth it?
