  1. I am used to the whole dimming of headlights, but on my 250Rs they are bright just after idle. With my banshee I have to be almost WOT. There's no way I can make it similar to the 250R?
  2. I actually started a new thread in the jetting forum but I figured I'd give an update. Took the banshee out about a month ago for its maiden voyage and it actually ran great, but once I got back, I did a compression test when I noticed I could push my kick starter down with a finger. 70PSI. Did a top end rebuild with WSM Platinum series pistons (after reading a few threads about the majority having no issues) and added VForce4 Reeds. I also did the +4 degree timing mod. I rejetted my carbs to 27.5 pilots and 300 Mains. Just got back from the second trip and the break in went great. First three days of riding all day long I kept it nice and cool with fairly low RPM's and checked the coolant constantly. Last day I gave it some solid runs up Test Hill at Gordon's Well and she rips. Stomped on some YFZ450's and a DS650. On a side note, if anyone in San Diego area is looking for a great guy to get their cylinders bored/honed, Floyd's Machine Shop on El Cajon boulevard does a phenomenal job at a very fair price. Motoworld of El Cajon actually takes their bore jobs there, so if you go direct you cut the price in half. ? Now my newest question is, will a 200W stator keep my headlights brighter at more than just near WOT?
  3. I just learned about it on the updated dune map. Never knew you could go past the wilderness area. I read something about taking Ted Kipf road north for 11 miles, but I think that lands you in some hard pack to go through before getting to dunes. If anyone else has some info that'd be awesome. I'm headed to Gordon's tomorrow, might get in the truck and drive up there to do some recon.
  4. Anyone go to Mammoth Wash north of Glamis? Really curious if it's good riding. If anyone could let me know that'd be awesome. Thanks!
  5. Hey guys, Just reinstalled my stock jugs after getting a .020 over bore and hone with WSM Platinum pistons and VForce4 reeds. Tomorrow I'm gonna go get a flywheel puller and do the timing plate mod. With these new mods, and my T5's, how is this going to affect my jetting? I increased my pilots to 27.5 and my mains are at 300 with the needles centered. I ride at gordon's well. Do I need to go up with anything in regards to the advancement of the timing and the reeds? Or should I be fairly safe? It was running a little rich before the rebuild. Also, decided to go ahead and cut a few coils off the throttle springs; what a difference! Glad everything is panning out well; as much as I like to say I agree with so many people when they say to do suspension first in your build, I just wanted it to run and be usable. haha. Hoping to have an A-arm frame and YFZ450 front end and a +4 swing arm by next fall. As for the rest of the season, I just want to finish off getting used to my shee and dialing it in.
  6. Yam fan how much shipped with pro design foam mount?
  7. Looking for a stock, preferably unmodified air box. Let me know what you have and your price. eBay is full of fools asking $80 - $100 for beat up pieces of shit, so I'm hoping to find someone willing to part with their unused one for cheaper than that. If you have the stock carb boots that'd be great too; if not, no biggie. If you have a box with a pro design adapter installed, I'm very interested!
  8. Strm Trper, what do you want for your +2+1 J arms? Let me know.
  9. I did do all of the above. I'm going to change my idle jets this week before my short weekend trip. I did decide that following this weekend trip, I'm going to pull off the top end and do a rebuild. I feel that I already know this answer, but I'm going to check to make sure. What's up with these WSM pistons? Are they anything better or comparable to Wiseco pistons?
  10. I guess I should have given you guys more of a background, my bad. I did a leak down check right when I got the quad and everything checked out okay. I bought it stock with the exception of a deleted air box and two uni foam filters on the carbs. I removed the TORS thinking the throttle may lighten up but it didn't do much. I also added Toomey T5's which is the reasoning for the jetting. I go to Gordon's Well which is just south of Glamis. Right now I am at 300 main jets, #2 clip setting on the needles and 25 pilot jets. I've already been told that I should go to 27.5 pilot jets, just been having trouble finding anywhere that has them in stock. The top end power was phenomenal; it screams as long as you don't let the rpm's drop too much before you shift.
  11. Took the Banshee out over the weekend and found out what all the little things are that need to be looked at. Here they are: 1. Rear shock is pretty well shot. Needs a rebuild or replacement. 2. Thumb throttle is undoubtedly the hardest one I have ever encountered. Thumb fatigue was like 5 minutes into the ride. 3. Doesn't like to start when it's been running for 30 minutes or so. Not riding hard. 4. Hesitation in the mid range. 5. Need a vent tube for my gas cap. (Haha splashes in my face) I did learn however that whatever aftermarket headlights I have actually work quite well. So that's a major plus in my opinion. So my questions are, do I have to go with a whole aftermarket thumb throttle assembly to get it easier? My compression tests were at about 110psi in both cylinders, is this low for stock, and if it is, is that why it's a bitch to start when hot? When I'm riding and it feels like it's loading up, is that my needle placement? My rear shock, are they worth rebuilding? Thanks everyone!
  12. Haha thanks guys. I have no air box, just straight filters. I was thinking the jetting should be similar to what my girlfriend's banshee was, so I'm obviously way off. haha. Thanks again. I'll start with 300s and see how it goes. Still working on getting some 27.5 pilots.
  13. Hey guys, I'm relatively new to the forums, but I'd like to get my youtube channel out there for more people to enjoy, so I thought if you aren't doing anything, feel free to check my shit out! I really love taking videos and editing, and I'm relatively new to doing it, so any constructive criticism would be great! (if anyone else edits videos....) On the negative side, I haven't made any videos with my banshee yet, but there's a few desert ones. I hope you all enjoy! my channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/MrSDCA1904
  14. There you go! This one is my girlfriend's. 1997, FMF Fatties, Duncan port matched, V3 reeds, +6 swing arm (don't know what brand), +2+1 arms, Works shocks. It's alright... PITA to start sometimes.
  15. Hey thanks everyone. I was looking at the fireball(?) racing +2+1 J arm kits on ebay. Anyone know anything about those? Unfortunately, my left J arm mounts on the frame have ovaled out from being loose. Not a big deal; just filled it with weld at my dad's shop and redrilled it. Just waiting on a new bolt, since it was stripped. I just posted in the pipes and jetting section, but today I ran it down the street a few times, and my top end just sucks. The midrange is amazing, it really gets up. But once it gets up, it just falls on its face and feels like it has no power band. I'm jetted at 340 mains, 25 pilots, clip centered on the needles, and 2 turns out on air/fuel. Compression check was 130PSI both cylinders, and leak down test was good. Any ideas?
  16. So, I picked up my stock 87 last week and I cleaned it all up and added Toomey T5's. I also cleaned the carbs thoroughly, rejetted it with 340 mains, middle clip on the needle, and 25 pilot jets (cycle shop didn't have any 27.5's in stock). I am in San Diego. Today I rode it up and down my street and at wide open throttle, it falls on its face, almost as if there was a governor on it or something. The mid range is great; it really gets up. But once it gets up, it goes nowhere. I also did a compression check; 130psi in both cylinders, and my leak down check was good. Help! Going to Gordon's Well next weekend and want this beast to run like a champ on its maiden voyage!
  17. Hey thanks for the suggestions guys. In the meantime, how often will I have to replace the bushings in the J arms? I'm not looking to upgrade them immediately because I just want to make sure everything runs smooth and work out all the kinks first.
  18. I was definitely looking for anywhere or anyone who was selling the a arm conversion, but I haven't found any places or people with them. I did find a guy with a set of D arms, are they worth it?
  19. Sandslinger, I'll take a few pics of the other banshee. That one is my girl's; it's in good shape, just needs a little love in a few places. I just went through it before I picked mine up, it looks much nicer! Haha. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone else! Happy to be a part of moneypithq.com haha
  20. What's up everyone, My name is Jeff and I've been riding quads out in Gordon's Well, CA for most of my life. I grew up riding a Blaster and TRX250Rs after that. Always wanted a Banshee, (and my girlfriend has a faster quad than me not for long! ) so I picked up a stock '87 for $900 just last week. Here's the original pic from the ad: I'm an avid search function user, and I have found lots of handy information on this forum thanks to many of you. When I picked it up, the guy said that the electrical system was a little messed up, which made me hesitant. The kill switch didn't work and it had one of those tether kill switches as well. The tail light didn't work but the bulb was new. All things that could be easy, maybe a little less easy? I picked it up, brought it home and took it all apart. Inside the switch, the terminals weren't making contact, so I fixed that and it was good to go. Tail light needed to be plugged in. haha! After hours of work over the weekend, this is how it turned out: I picked up some Toomey T-5's used for $240 and replaced the handle bars with renthals. The paddles and razors came in the deal. Currently I'm working on rejecting the carbs for the addition of the pipes, as well as replacing the J arm bushings. Which, here's the left side bolt and sleeve: After the main things are fixed, I'm going to drain and flush all the fluids, bleed the brakes, etc. A little about me, I'm a native of San Diego, 25 years old this friday, and I've been in the Navy for 7 years. Lived in Hawaii for 3 of those years and returned to San Diego because I missed the dunes! Anyways, Just saying hello! And thanks for all the help already! Jeff
