Clean off the frame where coil grounds on, and make sure frame is bare where ground goes on back by Cdi box.

Thinking about sitting it on fire.
Junkyshee replied to Junkyshee's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Thank you Larry, ill go over all of that tomorrow. And yes I pulled the petcock and cleaned it all inside. Also cleaned inside the tank letting it dry overnight. I still believe its my reeds whenever I think about how it has been stuttering before the power band, putting new reeds in tomorrow and give that a shot. Still opinion to opinions guys, that's for all of the input. -

It seems more like a firing issue because one side doesn't hit all the time and then it switched and other side started hitting part of the time. -

Both sides read the same compression, stock carbs, crossover tube has no cracks and is connected tight, carbs are synced, leak down test was a+, brand new plugs, it needs fresh gas it just ran out and I cleaned the tank out really good. I know 9 years is a long time but the topend was completely fresh 9 years ago and had never been fired up until last weekend. I did notice when I took the hoses off the carbs from the tank that one side would have alot of gas coming out and the other would dribble until I moved the line and then both Would have the same amount. I'm just puzzled. -
I don't know what the hell is going on. So I finally get it running. Made many of trips up and down the road and it cleared out and ran damn good. But if I shut it off and let it sit for an hour or so when I got back on it would studder before the band then clear itself out. Well it sit a couple of days and then when I got back on it, it was acting like it was running on one cylinder, I switched the plug wires and it was still missing on same cylinder, the side that wasn't running would smoke like crazy like raw fuel. I checked compression and it was 120. Then I swapped reeds and cages and the miss also swapped sides, so I was happy to think I was just going to put new reeds in being since its sit for 9 years. Well today I cleaned the reeds real good and put it back together, fired up first kick like always but was still missing, but while standing back and cupping my hand over the exhaust the side that was smoking raw fuel and not hitting would hit every now and then, I revved it up and it hit for a second and come back to idle and would hit every few seconds, WELL here's where it got weird, all of a sudden it changed sides, like just out of the blue. And the side that wasn't running started running all the time and the side that was running died out and started smoking raw fuel. What the fuck? Anyone ever seem a coil do this? Or could this still possibly be a reed issue? Thanks in advance guys.

No problem man! Well post pics when it gets done because it doesn't get much better. I love black on black on black on black etc...lol

Compression is 120. I swapped the reed cages and reeds to opposite sides and the miss switched sides too. So that's my only answer. -

If I barely lift each of them with my fingernail and let go they snap back down and set down firm, I can't see any cracks anywhere. I'm just lost I guess. -

I have no idea what they're supposed to look like. But they have been sitting for 9 years, any input on if these look good or horrible? -

Right side it the side that hasn't been firing well it's firing but only running on left cylinder. LEFT SIDE RIGHT SIDE Left one is actually right cylinder, right one is left cylinder -

Well now it's only running on one cylinder, it still blows air out the right tailpipe but not like compression like the left side. Got fuel going to both, swapped plug wires and its still the same, put new plugs in, wont smoke out of the right tailpipe until I rev it and let off and it's like raw fuel. Only thing I can figure now is reeds since they have been sitting for 9 years. Any other suggestions? Fixing to pull the reeds out now. -
I'll also check for vacuum leaks and all of the sort. If that goes south another leak down test will have to happen. Once again thanks everyone.

I'm sorry didn't mean to sound completely retarded lol, I realize I'm fouling a plug I just didn't know if anyone has had the exact same situation before, it was just weird because it was running damn good. The big flathead screw on top of the tors is what doesn't act like it will screw all the way in so I can see how far to come out. I guess I could run them out and turn them in to set my idle. I will definitely get a sync tool, thank you guys. I'll change plugs tomorrow and see how that goes. I wish I wasn't so tight right now to by a 2-1 kit, sounds much simpler.

carbs, intake, reeds, air filter
Junkyshee replied to Scrubtherubber's topic in For Sale - Parts & Accessories
Do you have reeds to go with cages? -
I also forgot to mention the slide on my right carb is just a hair raised up, took it apart several times and tried to mess with throttle adjustments and everything and it will not close that very very small gap.

So some of you read my first thread "something like a barn find," well after sitting for 9 years I got it out and running again and I've been piddling with it today, it was running super strong, then it started idling really high, then it idled back down and pretty much died. But it fired right back up first kick like always, I noticed it was smoking quite a bit more on one side earlier especially when I just snapped the throttle and let right off. Well it started running worse so I cupped my hand over the pipe on the side smoking a load, looked like to raw fuel, and it seemed to be a small steady stream of compression, as to the other side was thumping like the banshee sounds. So I swapped plugs and then it reversed and done all of that on the opposite side. As I've mentioned I'm not real inclined on carbs, much less two, but I did take the air screws all the way in and backed them out a round and a half on each side, my right idle screw acts like its stripped it doesn't ever come to a stop while turning in but the left one is fine. I treated both idle screws as they were both fine and brought them out to where I thought it was idling ok. Keep in mind I only took my carbs out and cleaned them very thoroughly, I didn't rebuild them. And it still has the reeds that have sit for 9 years. It's not losing any water anywhere. This is probably a ridiculous thread but I searched everywhere and couldn't seem to find my exact situation. Any suggestion will be appreciated, thanks in advance guys.

Ok guys, so I noticed yesterday and this morning that my shee has a stutter in it right around the power band, and the more I read I see everyone talking about the air/fuel screw. Since I've gotten it running it fires right up first kick, even this morning. If I get it out on the road it will stutter for a couple seconds and clear itself out and then runs like its supposed to, damn good. But before that it will have a steady stutter. My buddy cleaned the carbs and put them back together, didn't replace any jets or anything, it's all stock except for it was supposed to have been .60 over and it's got a k&n. I'm about 85% carburetor retarded so here's my first stupid question, where is this air screw located on the carb? Also keep in mind this thing has been sitting in my garage for 9 years, so could the reeds have anything to do with this? You guys have kicked ass and fixed my problems so far and I don't want to dig into any carb work by myself until I realize what is what. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks guys. -

Haha I know it's def time to dump some money in it, new reeds and getting rid of this stock exhaust is first on the list! And I'm glad that's all it was too lol. I'm still in shock that it starts and runs so good to have sit for so long. Blows my mind. Makes me a firm believer lol. -

Yeah 6psi for 6 minutes, I've tried it with the tors connected and disconnected. I about halfway think it may be my coil. But I will pull the side cover off and check the flywheel later. -

Leak down test went good, compression test went good. Got carbs cleaned and put on, change oil, fired it up, THEN the bottom end was rattling off and on, really weird, ran for about a minute and wouldn't rev up, started to act like it was going to rev and then it died and I'm back to square one, no fire. Stator checked good, pickup is good, wiring is good. I bypassed the ignition and on/off just to make sure and still no fire. I'm about to set this mother fucker on fire. The oil looked like nasty ass water so I'm not sure if it trashed the bearings in it from sitting or what happened but I'm tired of working on it and getting nowhere, thinking about just buying one that runs and go from there. Thanks guys. -

Hey I promise you won't have to give me shit man lol, I trust you guys because I know that you all are way more experienced with them. So I will definitely do the leak down test and make sure everything is good to go. So I just click on that link and follow the procedure???? -

Junkyshee replied to Junkyshee's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I know man I'm crazy excited lol. That is the plan once I get the carbs clean and the oil changed to where I can actually hear it run decent. Is am going to go over everything and quadruple check every nut and bolt and torque, I figure when I get it running and idling I can check for any sort of seeping gasket and such. By the way I seen where I was asked my location, I'm located in Leitchfield Kentucky, if any of you are in the Kentucky area let me know me and my buddies travel to ride every now and then. But tomorrow is going to be a long day and night. Because its getting a full service and tune up, checking everything multiple times and I'm going to try like hell to have this thing ready to go on our big ride Saturday, but if it doesn't happen I'm fine with that, I want to make sure everything is right for sure.
