I'm really betting on the clogged filter...well hoping..I've got factory headlamps. I will eventually ride in the daytime to pinpoint when it happens but advice or tips are always good

Well the 1997 banshee runs perfect when the lights are off Once it gets dark, I turn the lights on and it starts running like poo poo Almost even dies out....I'm assuming stator is going out? ? Is how to test or is it something else?? But then again...air filter was clogged pretty bad and I've had it run bad from a clogged filter before....just wanna try to cross my T and dot my I before I do this big ride Saturday! Thanks
