Hey David, the new center piece also fits on my cylinder studs much better than the old one.. I had to wiggle the old one up and down from side to side to get it to fit on, The new one slides on perfect if I just keep it level. Much less frustrating Those new stickers look great, I just gotta find a nice place for the new Red one's It woulden't look too bad on my truck either.

wow, thanks meat_heat! I posted pics of them finished up in the images forum..its hard to capture the metalcast affect. Someday I might polish them though, when I can afford a grinder and buffer My G/f helped me sand them for a while, but she was starting to get annoyed with me spending so much time on them, so I figured I had better hurry up and paint them heh.

Is it ok to re-use Reed gaskets or should I replace them? I have an extra set.

Well im done painting them, But ill have to wait till tomarrow before I remove the masking tape and take pictures They look pretty sweet and match my Red NOSS head nearly perfect! The real question will be how the paint holds up. It says it is gas and oil resistant I believe, and is even made for painting oil cans exhaust headers etc, so it sounds like pretty good stuff. I think the amount of sanding I did was about right, but if you want to take it to another level, more power to ya...I quit sanding because my hands hurt and my finger joints were locking up Here is a picture of the cylinders all masked. I first washed them in soapy watter (tidy cats litter bucket lol), rinsed them off with the hose, dried them quickly and sprayed a few shots of WD 40's into the inside of the cylinders sleeves to protect them from rust. Then I bunched up paper towels sprayed a couple shots of WD on them and stuffed them into the cylinders to absorb any left over water hiding in the ports. here is a shot after I finished masking them off Got a great picture tomarrow for you guys....

Update, the right one can be buffed a little more in the morning, here they are after 600 grit...Some places are still kinda ruff, but screw it, I think it's ready for paint.

I disagree with the republican and democrat statements, they are both greedy and neither really helps the lower class, just select groups at best. For you peopel that say you are making more now what is it in refrence to? I mean, 1 year ago 4 years ago? Did you factor in inflation? I mean yea im makeing $1 more an hour than I did 2 years ago, but the gas prices are at almost $2 now a gallon and everything else has increased too + you should expect to make mroe and more money as you gain more experience. I spend that $ an hour more just driving to work. I mean I can't even buy fast food or a burrito or anything for about $5 anymore...Inflation is increasing much faster than my sallery, with all the "california chrisis" lately tons of people have been laid off work and im lucky to have a job. I know CA is just one state, im just saying you have to look at the big picture. I agree witht the Clinton thing, he did screw things up worse, but honestly what we need is a strong democracy to make things better. We have just about the weakest form of democracy POSSIBLE. Capitalism is what our government should be called. Capitalism is a direct conflict with Democracy which origionaly prings from interpersonal relationships. There for we only have a special kind of Democracy to work with captialism which is not very democratic at all. Capitalism supports Alienation of culture, and of ourselves (forced to undercut each other to get job; or in other words, we work for less $ to get the job someone was being paid more origionaly)(* unemployment is the reserve army of labor to keep people from asking for too much money), we are also alienated from the governemnt (through our system of voting) I'm tired of all the duelistic views in this country; even in our governemnt "REP or DEM". I feel like I live in a social dislexia where no one cares to straighten things out because they are too buisy working, every day, so no one else can take their jobs. By this i mean that, while the majority of people are affected negatively by our social systems, they will turn around and defend the system. This tradition is carried on through selective HISTORY and 1/2 truths through the education system. By Capitalism im not talking about Profit, if it was about profit it would be called profitalism.. -Capitalism necessarily creates a division between the owners and workers. Based on exploitation of someone elses labor it is also charatorized by domination and subjugation. Even our labor is bought sold, and traded as if it were a commodity. Look a how horrible our education system is. it is designed to fail people, not to help them. Unless your rich, then it might be ok. Look into SAT score, wealthy famlies score higher, not jsut because tehy go to higher schools either...(Need proof?) And our legal system...Why is it for example, that Crack Cocine is treated so much worse then Powdered Cocaine? 5g's of crack is 5 years in jail, 499g's of powdered cocaine is a misdomeaner...Tell me that law was not designed by the RICH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK no one will read this its too long, but I had to vent And if you do, good luck to understanding how I think!

Exactly, the system needs some HUGE revisions, Like thomas Jefferson said, it woul dbe good to rave a revolution every 10 years or so if needed...I think we desperately need one. Even those of us that are well off, will never come close to the wealth that many of the capitalists in the goverment have. Thats why every year when they meet we see those protests on TV. The media makes it look like the people have no reason to be angry, they cover everything up. The reason they protest every year, is because when those capitalists meet, they are deciding how hundreads of thousands of peoples lives will be affected in the next year, so they can inscrease there capital at the expenses of thousands of people. It's not about someones rich uncle or some famous celeb that have SOME money, its about having enough money-power etc, to dictate peoples lives. These people honestly need to be stopped. So next time you watch the people protesting the meeting from 10 city blocks away, stop and realize they are doing it for all of us. it has gotten so bad in this country they are not even allowed to protest within 10 city blocks of where these people meet. We need to ditch our weak democracy and find a stronger one, where our leaders are not in it for themselves and their reputations. I'm not saying we are not luck as americans what I'm saying is for the amount of wealth our country has, we should all have 10x more than we do, or work 1/2 as much...Other countries do not like americans often because they do not understand how our system works, We work our asses off, and others get rich, while we just hope to get a raise...They don't understand that the american people themselves do not see 80% of the money included in yoru nations wealth. yea, clean out the pilot and main jet and see if it goes away. One side of mine always seems a little warmer than the other, and I have the carbs synced and jets cleaned...its a mystery I guess.

well Im definately not going to polish them. I don't havwe a buffer wheel, and I don't really understand how to use the dremel to polish either.. Still have to do the other cylinder too it's only on 80 grit...I figure I can always polish them later and some of the work will already be done if i strip the paint again, I don't want to wast all riding season on the cylinders lol. Yea meat_head's was sweet, But I don't see how he gets those exceptional results, have already spent many hours on these and im not getting anywhere!

Hey what do you gujys think? Is this one almost ready for paint? I still have a long ways to go on the other one.. The one pictured is about 30-50% done with the 400 grit. Theres still some ruff places but its hard to get them all with jsut sand paper and a dremel. So ill probably leave them there and jsut work on shining it up the rest of the way. Need some opinions here... School is really picking up and I need to get this done soon. I plan to sand them down to 600 grit so it still has a way to go, hopefully Ill get to painting this weekend..thats my goal...

No worries, The metalcast red cylinders probably won't match perfectly anyways....If I ever finish sanding!

Sure will I really gotta get moving on the cylinders now, I did not expect the new domes to get here this fast! the only minor thing thats off is the new bottem piece is annodized a little darker than the top and a couple tiney tiny dings on the side (maybe from shipping). (the Middle plate is the new one) A little mroe difference in color IRL, but nothing that bad.

GPS is good, But you should have pulled the buggy to the top of a hill or the bottem of a noticable place. Maybe they could have been more careful when heading back to camp. That way it would have been much easier to find them, then tell them to run their whip light or what not on so its easier to find them on the way back...You guys were drinking weren't you! Sounds like it would have been better to try to make it the short distance with the tire off the bead than leaving the vehicle compleatly (if possible). Always wear warm cloths on nightrides, and always ride with someone who can if needed pull you a distance outa harms way or that knows the area enogh to find you again. Night rides are really fun, but we normaly don't just drive out into the middle of the dunes at night either, unless we are on our way to one of the hills or other location, in which it would be fairly easy to find someone on the way back. I tent camp, so I know how cold it gets every night, not much you can do about it though I guess. At least you got to ride. My last 2 trips to glamis have been to get there, find my banshee not working, and then leave the same day after wasting TONS of money...

I was running sea level, glamis, K&N filter, no lid Fattys 320 main stock pilots (should have run 30 pilots though). Ran great, tid bit rich, but it would run slightly lean at night. Does FMF list foam and stock foam seperately? if not, you might want to go a little richer. Also if they don;t list the snorkle mod that will make a difference, maybe you could mod the lid a little to let it breate more, or get one of the K&N lid tops.

sure thing Big Boy, Damn fricking walmart was all outa the good polishing bits (and the other item I went to buy a C cell maglight they don't sell, even their choice of candy sucks these days!), I went to harbor freight and there were $5 more than walmart, but I did buy a generic set from them for $5 less than the one at walmart. Unfortunately the stones are the same ones I already had, the only thing I could use out of their set is the polishing compound. Do I even need this stuff? My dremel came with tons of the polishing felt pads, but no compound WTF! Is the $9 kit worth it just for the compound? What is a Dressing stone for? I did find some REALLY soft and smooth stones my dad had stored away in the garadge, they wear out EXTREAMLY fast but leave the surface nice and shiny I have 1 left...I have no clue where to get more of these things its a weird shape (sphere) but it wears down so damn fast I can shape the stone as I work...! Wasted tons of gas driving all around though... WALMART sucks!

I'll probably go to 600 then stop, maybe 400 in the less noticable areas no since in polishing jsut to paint them, we will see after I get some dremel bits at walmart tonight, I hope they have the rioght ones. I'm going to make them look as good as possible untill my head comes in, then ill paint them and let them sit a few days before I Install How many cans of metalcast do you think the cylinders will take? I only have about 1/2 a can left, should I pickup another?

wow I didn't think walmart would have anything. I HATE that store....But the ace hardware closed down around here or went out of buisness or something. I don't know why...Maybe necause of walmart. Well They are looking pretty good after tonight, almost done with the ruff paper, maybe I'll take a pic soon. After the 400 grit it almsot seems like I may as well polish them, but I still think im going to paint them metalcast red to do something a little different...I think it will be a challenge to paint something with so many grooves with a spray can, but hopefully a bunch of this light coats and it will come out pretty cool.
