Hey everybuddy, this is my first post. id like to thank everyone for posting all the valuable info thats helped me out so far. Anyways, i have some questions about some things that i dont hear about too often. i was wondering if there was anyone who was had a stock flywheel cut down, and if there has been... how much weight was takin out? what did you think of the performace added/lost ?
i have seen this done on a few other machines. i love the eye-shredding take off once you climb on the pipe, but the loss of rolling mass makes it a bitch to trail-ride without tearing into new clutch kits every 6-9 months, and harsh power meens (in some cases) less traction. but like i said, the quick rev is the ultimate reward. besides, with a name like banshee, its gotta scream.
chapter II
I really went a did it... i bought a 1999 banshee about 3 days ago. it looks good and the frame is in A1 shape. some minor cosmetics but i dont give a damn about scratchs. the kicker is i got it for 1000 bucks! i was told it was going to need a top end and that the kid was getting rid of it because he was going to ride with his buddys that all had 4x4s on his 660 rhino...

anyways, i figured for 1000$ i could have a decent quad for a little bit more money. i brought it home and got to work tearin plugs out to do a compression test. it has a stock head decked down a bit. i wasnt told exactly how much but looks like there was quite a bit takin off. compression in the shifter side was about 130psi, so your guess is as good as mine. I checked the kicker side and to my horrer there was about a 125psi difference. I thought of a few different things it couldve been, ultimatly i had to tear the cylinders and I puked a bit. the cylinders looked a bit rough but a good hone will fix them. apparently it had eatin a rod bearing and spewed bits and pieces of pretty glitter through the bottem end. i pulled the bottem end out and split the cases. I didnt find anything else that was surprising. just some scuffing where the rod had come down and beat the bottom case up a bit. Im in the process of having the cases and cylinders cleaned and preped for honing and assembly. Im ordering the hotrods stroker crank with +5mm rods, with wiseco stroker pistons for a 65.5mm bore and all the gasket to put it back together. I will keep everyone posted on the progress im making. Again, thanks for everyones tips, advice and constructive critisism.
