To lean to start? only starts with a shot of juice!
Badapwned replied to Badapwned's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Does gas go bad in a week or two? Yes the pilot has been bumped up to 35, on stock carbs. I could possibly try the next size up. Clogged pilot circuit, possible, very possible. But why does it want to die when I give it like mid throttle? It still is starving for more fuel.... -

Yes the choke was pulled. I think I would be more inclined to say the carb cleaner is burning more so then blocking air. I am spraying directly into the carbs with them WOT, then I close them and kick. -
I hate to bother you guys so much, but, if you can help me fix my problem it was worth it for meh! So, the bike sat for a couple weeks, I installed a new timing plate. It is now set at +4 degrees. The bike wont start without getting a shot of carb clean. When it does start, I cannot give it more throttle because it starts starving for more fuel. I could probably keep it running with more carb clean but, not my best idea. Its done this before, I would start it and I could give it no throttle whatsoever until it ran a little bit because it would starve for fuel and die. Its doing the same thing. Doesn't make any sense. Last time I rode it, it would be fine after it ran a little bit. It's possible the jets could be clogged, but I doubt it since I have them apart like every frigging day to put bigger jets in. So, I dunno. I just finished syncing the carbs. So, I guess ill go kick some more.

Its gonna sit on my shelf and probably get lost unless someone wants to buy it lol
-
You saved the day lol Thank you so much!! I wonder though, why the heck would 2 people be wrong about the same thing. Totally screwy, the guy i bought the bike from lied, and the guy from ebay lied to lol Wonder what gives.
-
I just pulled the flywheel off to put a stock timing key back in my bike so i could use my adjustable timing plate easier. But now im confused on what a stock timing key looks like. When i bought the bike, the guy said he had a +4 timing key, but when I took it out, it was symmetrical, it was NOT set foreword on either side, or offset i guess. It was a symmetric half moon or whatever you want to call it. Thats fine, so the guy lied, no big deal, but I ordered a stock timing key off of ebay, and the one I got WAS offset, which makes me think it is a +4 degrees timing key. But, why would factory depend on a funny offset key as opposed to a symmetrical one. So right now I have an offset key that is suppose to be stock, but i also have a symmetrical key that is suppose to be a +4 timing degree key. Is this correct or am i all F-ed up? Please help!!

I was just at the Little O and Big O loop trails. I would venture to say it was some the most fun places to ride. I would compare it to silver lake. Its about an hour away from silver lake. I went up there two weeks ago, they closed silver lake on a Friday, Bast*rds. Anyways, they are some fuuun trails. If anyone is in SE MI, I usually go to this place on exit 9 on 23. This guy owns about 10 acres with a pond and stuff, give him 5 bucks and its a cool place to ride.

I live in Monroe, south of Detroit. You say you know where there are places to ride?

I just got my Ricky Stator timing plate in, pretty sure its cast, whats wrong with cast ones?

Banshee Jetting looks Lean, but is running rich?
Badapwned replied to Badapwned's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
Update: Just got back from my trip from Silver lake. To say the least, the dunes were closed.......funny right? All is well, we went north west about an hour to find some amazing trails, not only were they perfectly smooth, they are endless. Very fun. If anyone has not experienced this type of riding I would highly recommend it. It was the called the "little O Loop" and "Big O Loop". Anyways, I went to my local motorsport store to pick up some bigger jets real quick, I picked up 370, 380 and 390's. I did have 360's in, to say the least I was not getting any color on the plug. I skipped right over the 370's and went for the 380's. I also put in the 35 pilots, which helped considerably with the 1/8 throttle bog. The air screw is still about 1 turn out, I did not adjust it from the 32.5's yet. I will work that out soon. The 380 mains were a good size, I got the brownish color on the plug I was looking for, good power and no bogging at the top end. Lots and Lots of power. So, the only issue I got left is around half throttle, its wants to break up, the engine is breaking up, not sure what this would be caused by. I thought maybe it was getting to rich and it was trying to clear itself out, so I moved the C-clip to the leanest position. But it did not change the break up enough for me to notice. I will move the C-clip the other way to the richest position to see if it helps. Anyone got any input on engine break up? Is it a rich or lean condition? Also, hopefully someone finds these updates helpful. I will stop if you guys are getting bored of my saga! lol -
Banshee Jetting looks Lean, but is running rich?

Update: Went riding today, The banshee is still lean, I dont get it. Just from reading what other people have done to their banshees and what I done to mine, it seems like I would have been done a few jet sizes back. The pilot is to small, its a 32.5 with air screw at one turn, when I pull the choke the bottom end is alot better. So, I am going to put a 35 in tomarrow. The main is to small, when I do a pull and go through the gears, pull the plug, its a very light color, its not even getting brown. So, I am going to pick up bigger jets tomarrow. I will probably throw the 35 in and put in the 380's and see what happens. I am going to silver lake this weekend, leaving tomarrow.....Stoooked as HEEEElllll@@@!!!! BTW, ITS FRIDAY BITCHES!!!!!!! I will let you guys know how it goes when I get back. -
Banshee Jetting looks Lean, but is running rich?

Update: Put new jets in, again and again and again.... I started off at 25 pilots, 320 mains. I am now at 32.5 Pilot, 360 Main, Need Clip Third Notch, Air Screw ~ 1 turn. At this point she barely even smokes, I am going to have to order bigger mains, I would have never guessed. 360's are pretty big jets right? The banshee sucks that gas down and loves it, no bog what so ever at the top end, the bottom end bog is finally gone. Im thinking it could use 380 or 390 mains.....considering the way its going now. Who would have knew....... -

Update: So, I was working on my bike last night, syncing the carbs, and messing with the air screw. I decided to give it a compression check, just for the hell of it. I get 110 PSI in both cylinders, so I am like WTF. What the hell happened. So, I call the guy up who rebuilt my motor, told him what happened, he said to bring it up to his place. So last night around 8:30, I drive to this guys place, etc etc. He did a compression check and got around 150 PSI on one side and around 145 PSI on the other. Conclusion: Don't buy cheap pressure gauges from Murry's or Advanced Auto Parts. Nuff Said. So, after that little ordeal was settled, I was telling him how I was having trouble jetting due to the fact my pilot jet was the smallest one I could get and still could not get it lean enough, So, he asks me "are your slides in backwards?", I reply back, erhh dunno, I haven't switched them since i bought it from the guy. So he checks, and yes they are in the opposite carbs. So at this point, my whole night is a bust, but, you live and learn. So anyways, switched the slides around, through new plugs in and she fired up. He told me when you have the slides in backwards, since they are tapered or cut on one side, it always exposes the pilot jet, meaning it was ALWAYS dumping gas in, so that's the reason I couldn't get it jetted to save my life. So, im happy once again. I am going to rejet it tonight and take it for a ride. Ill let you guys know how it goes. -
No, its not the same jump, now that I think about it, its the jumps that are hard to hit, they have horrible take off's and landings. I have never had it happen to me on a smooth jump. Guess I will have to watch what i hit when im on the move lol BTW, I appreciate all the responses. Its for my CR250, not my banshee : )
-
Well that's the problem, sometimes it just doesn't work as planned. Its only happened twice, in 4 months and riding twice a week. So it doesn't happen often, I am just wondering if a better / newer boot may help in the occasion it happens again. I move my foot position quite a bit while riding, but a majority of the time the peg is in the arch. The last time it happened, like 3 days ago, my feet came off the pegs, just like you said. I landed hard, and hurt my ankle. You don't think better boots may help at least?
-
This may not be the right forum, but we will see if I can get a response. Sometimes when I land a jump awkward, not necessarily big, I just have a bad landing, I land on the very front of my foot and over extend it. The tendon / muscles in the back of my ankle screech in pain and I am hurting for weeks. I have only done this twice now, but im afraid if it keeps happening I may cause permanent damage. The boots I wear are old, may 5 - 8 years. Are they flexing to much? Should I get a new tech pair of boots? What do you guys think?

Banshee Jetting looks Lean, but is running rich?

Update: Went with the family to the usual place and had a great time. My sisters, which by the way have never ridden anything with a clutch, did a great job. They were able to hop on the shee and cruise around with me. The low RPM bogging is almost gone, but I can still tell it is there. Im kinda stuck right now without anymore jets. The ones I ordered have not come in the mail yet. The time it takes to get to the powerband is still the main issue. BTW, I would have to strongly disagree with anyone that says the banshees have to be like a light switch, either on or off. My opinion is if that's how someone's banshee is then its not jetted correctly. When I bought this banshee that's exactly how it was, the motor was either in the PB or barely went anywhere. Its at least 100 times better then when I bought it, not to mention the guy had a 270 main in, and im already at 320 needing to go bigger. One other concern is my pilot jet size. Anyone here with just some pipes uses a 27.5, here I am with pods, pipes, ported cylinders etc, and no way in hell am I putting those 27.5's back in. My air screw may need some fumbling around, we will see how that goes. When I get my jets in I will let you guys know what I come up with. Any comments on my pilots guys? -

I'm glad I could help someone. Also, I couldn't agree more about people not finishing the thread with how they fixed their problem. It should be absolutely mandatory to finish your thread to help people in the future. Update: Well gentlemen, today was the day to let my G/F ride it. She did good, I was afraid she might get hurt or do something...well stupid.... lol, but she did great. She hasn't had much experience with a quad, let alone a clutched 2-stroke quad, so I'm very pleased. I put in the 25 pilots and 320 mains this morning. The 25 mains really helped with the bogging, it revs much easier now. It just requires some fine tuning. I do have one concern, I have never been on a "well tuned" banshee, or any banshee for that matter, so I am kinda peeing in the dark if you know what I mean. I know what a 2-stroke is suppose to be like, but I am definitely on a steep banshee learning curve. I got a great comment from some guy today, he said I sounded like a "Hot Snowmobile", made me get the warm fuzzy's inside hahaha. My next plan: Wait for my new jets to come in. Put a bigger main in and finally try some fine tuning. I am bringing the whole crew with me tomorrow to go riding, my father, G/F and my sisters. Hopefully we can all have a good time. P.S. Gas is cheap, they are giving that shit away, I could almost sop it up with a biscuit. I will update with how tomorrow goes, stay tuned  -
Sounds like you might have found your issue. If that left side carb was loose and sucking excess air in, you may have created an extremely lean situation and we all know what happens when 2 strokes get to lean for to long > Sorry to hear your bike blew.

Banshee Jetting looks Lean, but is running rich?

Update: Well, I hope no one cares how often I update my saga. I am hoping this thread will eventually help someone else out in the future who may have the same problems. Back to the story, I took it back to my usual spot and opened her up. Let me say one thing, 6th gear just isn't required....lol I guess it might be useful at the dunes, but anywhere where I went, I found myself going waaaay to fast, I could easily see 70 or 80 MPH, hell even 90 doesn't seem out of reach. As far as how she runs, runs good when your at or around the powerband. I'm 99% confident my pilot jet is to big. When I release the throttle for a few seconds and try to get back into it, it wants to load up, so once it clears itself out its fine, but I def. do not want it like this. My next idea is to play with the jets some more, I ordered more jets, mains 330 through 360 and pilots 30 through 35. I have 320's in my tool box, I am going to throw the 320's in and put a smaller pilot in. Right now im 27.5, I going to throw the 25's in and see what happens. My goal is to have the jetting good enough so when I give her full throttle she gives me full throttle. The way it is right now, if I stay at a higher RPM its fine, but when I completely let go of the throttle and try to get back up to RPM it takes a little bit, to much time for me. I let you guys know how it goes tomorrow. Wish me Luck!!! -

Same exact shit happend to mine. What I found out was the spark was dieng, I was getting intermittent spark just like you suspect. I think I fixed it last night, when I get home from work I am going to take it for a test ride. Im pretty sure the problem came from where the wiring harness was spliced together on my bike. I will let you know how it goes. -

Update: So I finally got around to riding the bike, took it to my usual spot and of course have problems. The spark kept cutting in and out. I finally figured out that where the previous own had spliced the wiring harness it had become all f-ed up. So, after fixing that, I got to test ride it. Good power, everything seems to be working well. The power is much smoother then before. As far as jetting goes, I got a 310 main, 27.5 pilot and needle clip in 3rd position. I think the bike could take a bigger jet and eat the extra fuel. I want to find the biggest jet before screwing with the other ones. What do you guys think? I was going to put a 320 in, see how she does, if it can still eat the extra fuel, I might go bigger. Once I find the biggest jet I can use, I will start messing with the other ones. Does this make sense? Cant report much of a plug color, haven't really had a chance to really open her up. The plugs don't look lean or rich, just look like a wet new plug when I pull them. Hopefully today I will be able to open her up and see what she does. Also, I got all the parts I bought on her, bumper, nerf bars etc. Looking good!! -

Update: Got my motor back as promised. The guy also true welded the crank, and I think he machined the heads for O-rings. I asked the guy about fuel mixture, he said he uses 20:1 in all his bikes. Seams a little rich to me. Right now I use 40:1. I use it in my CR250 and it runs great. I use AMS oil dominator, but, that's another story for another day. I want to get the bike finished this weekend to take it for a ride. I took quite a bit of it apart, soo, I will update when I get finished. Wish me luck guys.
