Thumb throttle sucks, i have ridden dirt bikes since i was a kid so TWIST THROTTLE is the only way togo . I ride in the dunes and havent had any problems with it.
i just got done installing 450 arms on my shee and found out that the stock tie rod from the 450 was too short and i had to get a 1 over for a 450 to make it work on mine. i used 450 tie rod ends from moose racing and the tie rod came from modquad, they are for a 06 and up.
Check out this killer deal---- 06 450 arms , shocks , and tie rods. All for the price of 350.00. Just need to get tie rod ends. In the right place at the rig  ht time .
Update to this question, I found that if you put a small amount of silicone (blk rtv ) on the exhaust port of the cylinder head it will seal up that area. Also check your jetting.
