full trottle + low rpm = sputtering
pittss1c replied to pittss1c's topic in General Banshee Discussion
I think it was just a rich condition. It turned out I was getting the wrong indications from plug chops, and I was too rich. I have been slowly leaning it out, and am getting better behavior. -
My plug chops were not reliable.I was running jets about that size, but they always showed lean. (even though it was too rich) I was running my bowls dry on the long high power runs, so the plugs always looked lean. (I was even as high as 172 showing lean) Now I am at 160 and still a bit rich (based on long term plug color and fouling)

even a few inches of water makes my pods unhappy. I think what happens is, even if the bottom of my sprocket gets wet, the chain slings water/mud right at my left POD filter. and things go to hell fast. I feel like such a weenie avoiding the slightest water when riding with friends. I tell them how much faster I am then them, and the respond, not if there is a 3 inch puddle between here and the finish line.

Sorry for the late response. We only had 2 guys in the gloves this year. (normally have about 6 or 7) Both were novice. first guy was about 22 or so. He lost a decision. it was his first fight and he thought his legs were dead. (They weren't, it was mental) He didn't do badly, just didn't do enough. The second is 17. His third fight. Lost a close decision. Had the crowd on their feet. He would have won if he could have kept his opponent spinning. The guy he was fighting kept grabbing him and he could not break free well enough. I am proud of him anyway. We have to get him listening and following instructions better. I just feel bad, because he smacked the shit out of his last opponent at a show last month, but lost the decision to a local Irish boy. Not a good year, but often we send open fighters to nationals, so, You win some and loose some.

I am a coach for USA boxing. I have a guy with his first fight this Thursday at the Chicago Golden Gloves. Should be fun.

We went riding on the 7th, I went skiing in Colorado on the 11th (legs still weren't 100%) then went riding hardcore in Casey last Sunday. I can barely walk right now. Daggers in my legs when I walk. I need to rest for a week or so. Can't make it.

I put them on the stock a-arms last week and went riding. It didn't seem noticeably higher, but definitely stiffer. Once I have them setup better, I think I will like them. I was thinking about modifying the A-arms, but the idea of shortening the shock is kinda attractive. Maybe I can find a blown/bent one to take apart and experiment on before potentially ruining these.

Well, the forecast is all over the place. Either way, I got the yfz450 shocks on tonight and am ready to go. I am ready to try dropping down from ~12-14 ft and see of I bottom out again. -
Shortened the shafts? How does one do that?

Somehow my name got removed off the list of people coming... I am pretty confident now. The only question is weather or not I bring a second rider or just a second vehicle for myself. 1. I think I have read most of the posts, but if I have missed something, it would be nice to link it from the instructions sticky. I have seen the "don't do it bro" responses, and the "spend the money on works/elkas..." But, for all the people that have posted that they did yfz450 shocks on stock A arms, I have seen very few conclusions (over 2 years later). I am not interested in the technical reasons of why it shouldn't / or won't work. I have seen that, and believe it is not a good long term solution. I am just trying to gauge weather it is the kind of upgrade that is going to destroy my ball joints in 10, 100, or 1000 rides from someone that has gone through it. (I have the shocks and plan to put them on this week) I saw the ball joint failure in 6th gear post, but there isn't a lot of data there to determine if the shocks were the root cause. we should have some real life experience data here. thanks in advance

It seems that modern forecasts are a function of a prediction and the historical average. Much more then 5 or 6 days out, the average (about 45 degrees and some probability of precip for March 7) dominates the forecast. Unless they are pretty confident that the jetstream will be in a position that will change the weather significantly. -

I don't mind water/mud in the summer, but my shee hates it. I can't go through 8 inches of water. I think the chain gets wet and flings it right into my left carb. (the outerwear gets clogged with dirt and water) I wonder if anyone has constructed a shield for this. -

I just figured the first one to break their Banshee had to cook. I am in Champaign/Urbana. I don't know how much a sync would help (depends on how far they are off I guess) I don't have the tool so have no experience (which I was wondering if someone that is coming has them) BTW: she has a 300ex so is no threat other then being more experienced then I am. -

Does anybody have those fancy cab sync tools they can bring to the ride? I wouldn't mind checking mine real quick. -

Not the wife: she got knocked up and can't ride this summer. This girl is fun and it would be good for her to get spanked by banshees all day long. Take her down a notch or two. I tried to get her to at least ride my blasty, but she wants to ride her Honda. We'll see. I might bring her... might not. -

I might bring a chick as well. She is kinda anti-banshee, but it will be fun spraying her with rocks and sand all day on her Honda. Though she might give a little shit though when/if the Banshees start breaking down and her POS is still running. -

If I'm in town, I'll come too. I got a blaster and an rm250 now too. I'll probably bring one of them as well in case I break my banshee again. I'll try to watch out for 10 ft tall doubles better this time though. -
An EGT on a 4 stroke is a pretty easy thing, but I am not sure that it is obvious of where to place an EGT probe on a 2 stroke, or what the gauge really tells you. Just because, it seems that, for every heat pulse you get from exhaust, you will also get a cold pulse from fuel/air. Also a general rule of thumb I thought with EGT was that the absolute value doesn't matter too much. it is mostly good for variable mixture engines and setting a mixture relative to the peak at the current conditions. I use an EGT in an aircraft, and can tell you that the absolute value of the gauge depends a lot on temperature and humidity. Many gauges don't even have temperature markings. Although I have heard of race car drivers that say, after the needle goes past a known point on the gauge, they always melt pistons. (for a given installation) I am also quite confused how one would use an air/fuel probe accurately on an effectively ported and piped 2 stroke as well.

I have the atc 2k. I put some pictures on bansheetube and youtube of frame mounted video. Couple of things... the 3k fixes some problems. There is a bug in the hardware that causes wavy lines in the image... also under vibration, the camera will shut off. (and that video is zero length) I fixed it some by wiring in a capacitor. The sound stinks... One last thing. Be careful not to screw the base on if there is any mud/sand on the threads. mine stripped out easily. But I am glad I got it. You can get a atc2k a little cheaper at geeks.com now too... $89
