  1. My compression before putting cool head was around 110 in both so its time for a rebuild and the winter seems like the best time! I am going to try and get the aggresive dune port from Kevin at herr juggs and bore and rebuild the top end.

My question is, should i break the cases apart and take a look at the bottom end. And if I do pull the bottom end apart is there anything that i should plan on replacing or rebuilding in the bottom end.

FYI its a 2000 banshee with the mods in my sig. and it is 100% internals and its never been rebuild or bored.

    thanks.

  2. I beat him pretty badly especially from 3rd on, but it seems like b4 the mods, once I got going, I would just blow past him...How do you like that 13tooth front sprocket? ive got one, but havent put it on bc it seems like that woul be a lot of shifting...stock 700r's beat you with that setup???

I put on the 13tooth because i was riding a lot of technical trails. I am actually going to go back to a 14T. As for my bike vs a raptor 700. I had a raptor 700 that i sold to a budy, and even it being stock and mine the way it is, the raptor gives me a run for my money. Most time the raptor wins due to traction....I think my banshee is a little faster but obviously i can't hook for shit on any loose stuff.

  3. So I installed pretty much all the suggested bolt ons(Boyeson reeds, pro flow k&n minus lid, trinity stage IV timing plate @ +4, milled head .03, 280 mains, fmf sst pipes) and dont get me wrong "shee" will scream, but even though the set-up is much better for trail riding(more midrange power) im not so sure it wasnt a tad bit quicker, as far as dragging goes, b4...The band hits better throughout the throttle range, but at the sacrifice of top end. When I just had pipes, the power band took longer to hit but felt a tad quicker when wide open. I especially noticed this when dragging my friends z400 the other day. I use spin through 2nd and pass him on 2 tires in 3rd(on dirt), but we were on pavement this time and I crept away but nothing like I use to...maybe its just my imagination, but im suppose to race a 700raptor and a kfx700, and it would be embarrassing to get smoked by a stock kfx. Has the sacrifice of top end made me slower or do I just need to adjust????

My set up is similar to yours, all i can think about is maybe those FMF pipes are hurting your top end. Also when you add timing and compression it helps bottom end more than anything. Lastly if your not running the right main it would affect your WOT performance. Try a size smaller or larger main jet and see how she responds.

What i can tell you is my banshee which needs a top end walks all over z400's, 400ex's, with a rolling start i am a good amount quick than stock 450's and can keep with raptor 700's but they are still a little faster. Something is not right with your machine if your not running past a z400.

  4. I have to ask..how the hell do you guys keep your bikes frames and swingarms so damn clean and shiny!?!?! Like i understand clean plastics and wheels etc....But it would take me a whole f-ing weekend to get my bike to look 1/2 as good as some of yours.

How do keep those swing arms clean with chain lube and dirt and shit all getting stuck to it?

Like my street bike is easy to keep looking showroom, but the quads are a different story!!!!

  5. Also, get rid of the 13 tooth front sprocket. Try 14/41. Stock gearing works great for your set up.

I know this is something i posted like a month ago, but i did soften up everything and to be honest it really came down to how i was launching. I think i was too harsh on my launches....i went out today after making a few adj. on the machine and tried a bunch of hard starts on damp grass and really learned a lot after like 20 starts or more. I really have to ride the clutch through almost all of second gear when starting other wise i will either just roast the tires or bog down. If i slip the clutch at like 3/4 throttle and sit back i can get a decent launch! Not great but decent.

thanks for all the tips guys!!!

  6. I am thinking about taking my 2000 Shee that's in pretty good shape and ripping her completly apart and basically doing a ground up restoration!! I don't want to change a whole lot mechanically, maybe just do a top end and re-valve the rear shock and maybe new fronts, but i want to clean everything, change all fluids, seals, bearings, put all the wires in neat wire loom, powder coat all the wheels and the frame, and powder coat any metal parts i can. I want to take it from looking like a used machine to a better than new bike. I have always wanted to tackle a project like this and the winter is a good time to do it!

I'll probably take my time on it, but i want to take all the right steps and make it all 100%. As it stands now it runs awesome and really needs nothing, i just want to renew everything so there are no squeaks or rattles. I would also like to get the cylinders painted and all the calipers, paint the clutch cover and basically anything that i can. Also want to cut the front fenders, maybe even get new plastics all together to change the color comb.

I know this is a lot of work. And its going to cost a fair bit of money, but i think it will look sweet for the start of next years riding season!!!

I hate to rant on and on, I am just pumped to do all this!!!

I will post some before pictures this week, and also some process pictures when i start, which may not be until late fall.

  7. all this info is great!!!! thanks

I am 5' 10" 200lbs and running 20" maxxis razr 6 ply, i think they are 20X10 but they are much wider than that. the same size knarly's i used to have were shorter and not nearly as wide. I will lower the tire pressure, i usually run like 5 psi and i will soften up the rear shock and see how it does. I dont want to go with a shorter swinger because i want to get an aggressive port job and dont want to wheelie nonstop.

  8. hey guys, i know this is like very very common, but i am having massive traction problems!!!! Like my buddies and i were riding this weekend and i raced one guy on a YFZ450 and we had rode through the fields before and my banshee is a good amount faster than his stock bike but once we raced from a stand still on the bottom of the hill he would kill me on the start and i would just spin all the way through 4th gear. Like we would start and he would pull like 3-4 bikes on me off the start and then i would close it to like 2 bikes but i was spinning and fish tailing the whole way up the hill.

The same thing happened when i was racing my cousin on his dirtbike rmz250 with a bunch of work. My bike is just as fast as his when we just ride hard, but from a stop he roasts me every time. Now his bike is prob a little faster than my banshee but not by much at all.

I have tried starting in first and second and at all different rpms and tried starting hard and tried riding the clutch, but once that power band hits i am spinning. I am riding on maxxis razr 6 ply pretty new! we are racing on dirt/fields. Are there any really aggressive tires that wont kill my handling, like mud lite SP's or something. I ride hard, we ride trails, fields, MX type stuff and just a little light mud every once and a while.

Sorry for the ranting, i am just pissed that i a getting beat by slower bikes!!! when on my raptor 700se i would kill everyone because i can launch without spinning for 150yrds.

  11. I have the razr 2 6 ply on my raptor 700 and i have the kenda knarly on my banshee.

I like them both a lot, but the razr's are a LOT heavier, like you can feel the difference in the power. I have put the razrs on the banshe and then swapped back to the knarlys and all i can say is it rides better and is a little snappier with the knarly tires.

For like a high torque 4-stroke like the raptor the razrs are fine but for the banshee i prefer the knarlys
