that's what i was hoping was possible. i'll start doing that tomorrow morning after i get home from work. if this helps i know that with the head off the piston tops out with the top piston ring traveling just right above the cylinder wall. when this happens it goes up just enough for the top ring to travel above the wall and pop open and then it's kind of tough to compress the ring to get it to go back down. i'll check the stroke for sure tomorrow morning though. i no longer have the big bore cylinders or pistons. i'm trying to get this bike back together that way i can start teaching my young daughter to ride. i know a banshee is kind of extreme but it was free and i was a banshee nut back in my teens when i had two of them and i don't really want anything to do with a monster big bore kit. pretty sure it would scare my daughter crapless. thanks for the help though and i'll try to get some measurements tomorrow.

here's my setup, I think: 2001 banshee, cylinders just back from the machine shop w/ fresh boring .030 over with wiseco pistons and stock head. banshee was given to me in pieces by my cousin. i do not know a lot of the specifics so it's been tough trying to put everything back together. i know this bike came from a gentleman who raced banshee's as a living. he quit racing and sold off everything he had. my cousin ended up with the guy's two personal banshees and all the parts he had left over (they were friends and he had a total of 5 banshees, 3 for racing, 1 for him and 1 for his young son) when i got the bike my cousin was trying to build a monster bike out of it and was installing a monster big bore kit. i wanna say he was making it a 540 but not positive on that. the cylinders were trinity 69.5 mm that he was putting on with matching pistons. i took all that off and went back to the stock setup bored .030 over. got everything put back together and now the pistons top out before it turns over. pistons just hit the head and stop. i'm guessing that it has a bigger crankshaft with a longer stroke that's causing this. my question is what is the best option from here? would putting a spacer under the cylinder fix this, or am i going to have to tear everything back apart and switch out the crankshaft? thanks for the help in advance. caleb

will do. i just figured if i could use the gasket set from vito's, it's free and in my hands already, but i really don't feel like messing up my $360 cylinder job either. thanks for the help.

i recently tore the big bore kit off my '02 banshee in order to put the stock cylinders back on. i sold off all the big bore stuff and sent the other cylinders out to be bored, polished and honed. didn't plan on having them bored, but the machinest threw in a brand new set of .030 wiseco pistons he had laying around so i went ahead and had him match the cylinders to them. here's the tough question. i've got a ton of brand new aftermarket parts and one of those parts was a top end gasket kit from vito's but it's for a big bore. the description on the website says 'unmachined stock head and cylinders up to 70mm' for this kit. according to this description i would be okay using this gasket set, but the machinest told me to purchase a stock top end kit. am i safe using the gasket kit from vito's or should i order a different one? the part number for the big bore kit is 11-8151 SKU VBB400TEK is anyone could help me out. thanks in advance.

i've noticed some posts where people have bought street bike engines and implanted them in their quads. i've got a buddy who wrecked his cbr 600 a few years back, just now paid it off, and asked me if i'd be interested in it. it is very salvagable, but i have no interest in rebuilding something that i'd end up killing myself on. that was his plan all along, to rebuild it, but his finances have hit a serious wall, his home was just foreclosed on, and i believe he's filing bankruptcy. anyway i was just curious as to what engines like this have gone for on here in the past and if i would have any luck selling on here. it's in great shape with low hours (bought it off a girl who's boyfriend bought it for her and rarely rode it) and last time i asked it started and ran perfectly. if anyone is wondering he sideswiped a tree and totaled the front end. needs new front end and that's it. the engine and rear don't have a scrape on them. dented in the front of the gas tank and everything from there back wasn't damaged at all. i'm thinking of buying it and just parting it out as long as i can make up the $1000 he wants for it. caleb

i had all the dust covers, plate washers, circlips, nuts, bolts...etc,etc,etc. in a box in my garage and now i can't seem to find it. i bought a bolt kit to cover the nuts, bolts and washers but i'm still in need of most of the dust covers and the plate washers that go in them (particularly for the swing arm) and a ton of the circlips. if anyone happens to have any of these laying around it would be greatly appreciated.

i've actually got two good sets of cylinders, one set up for racing and i'm assuming the stock cylinders. i don't have the pistons though. i was thinking that if i could find a good price for a cylinder/piston combo then i'd just buy that and then sell the extra parts i have after i get the bike put together. i know it may be easier to just measure the cylinders and buy pistons but i don't have any calipers to get a correct measurement. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

good price for the manual but shipping kills it. thanks though.

banshee for sale CHEAP in central illinois.
caleb205 replied to 01blckbansh's topic in For Sale - Parts & Accessories
happen to have anymore info on the bike? i'm in ohio and i know around here the trading post does not have a website but the peddler's post does. i would be interested in the bike seeing as how i have a couple of boxes full of parts to build a banshee. -
i'm looking to buy a banshee for my wife to ride. i have an '01 that me and my daughter ride but my wife would like to join me every now and then to go riding on some trails. i'm not looking for anything expensive or 'mint' condition. ideally i'm looking for something that is older and has some hours on it or something that may need rebuilding. i don't really want to pay a lot for something that will only be ridden a few times a year. i do have quite a few parts i'd be willing to trade for partial payment on a bike. when i got my bike it had been set up as a 460cc for drag racing but the guy never raced it and gave me the bike with several boxes of parts including everything to make it stock again which was what i did. so i have a lot of extra parts if someone needs them. racing carbs, bigger pistons and cylinders, two racing clutches never used, extra cables, and lots of extra parts that i haven't looked at yet. if anyone happens to have an extra banshee laying around and needs any or all of these parts i can get a better description of them. also i live in ohio and would like something closer to my area. thanks.....caleb

i'm gonna give rockymountainatv.com a try. all depends on their shipping prices. i've found a lot of cheaper sites on the internet but after shipping prices it ends up being about the same as going to the local yamaha shop and just ordering from them. i've also tried a few places on ebay and everyone of them so far has all said the same thing, 'they don't offer the bolts i'm looking for and it's too expensive to have them made.' thanks for the replies, caleb

i've posted this before and have had troubles getting ahold of NYUK, who stated he had most of the parts i needed. i don't think he answers messages but in case he reads this i've left messages on his phone too. maybe he's getting maybe not. hopefully seeing this will help. i am still in need of a few parts in order to put together my '01 banshee. all parts must be in above average condition and work good. when you message or email me please include the part and a price shipped to me. in case you need to know my zip is 43526 but an estimate is good enough. no need to rush to the post office to get shipping prices. stock headlights preferably w/out wires cut and plugs attached upper swingarm bolts bearings for the swing arm thumb throttle with wires not cut and plug attached thrush covers for swing arm with flat washer and rubber gasket and i'm sure there will be more as i get further into putting it back together. thank you, caleb mcalexander

i recently had surgery and bought an '01 banshee off my cousin to give me something to do while i'm healing up. problem is that the banshee is in pieces, and not just a few pieces. every nut, bolt, o-ring, and oil seal was removed. the good thing is that i was looking for a project and that's definitely what i got. it was taken down to the frame and the frame was powdercoated and the previous owner who had it before my cousing raced banshee's for a living so when he got rid of them he gave my cousin a big box of aftermarket parts brand new in their boxes to go with it. i paid $650 for everything he had and that included a set of Cool Heads brand new in the box which i see are about $300. so i don't think i did too bad. anyways my question is pretty simple: included was stainless steel bolt kit for the banshee but that does not include certain bolts i'm finding out. is there any other place to purchase these bolts (upper a-arm, swing arm, lower motor mount, foot peg bolts) other than from yamaha. i already purchased the two upper a-arm bolts with washers and nuts from yamaha to the tune of $33 which i find a little salty for just two bolts. any info and direction for cheaper parts will be greatly appreciated. also this site is very informative and i've consulted with it several times in the past weeks and have found my answer every time so far. thank you in that regard.

-2,-1,0,+2 through +16 extended swing arms
caleb205 replied to jamesbrokman1's topic in For Sale - Parts & Accessories
looks to me like there are already a few people who've paid and are awaiting products from this guy. i'm just waiting for a little review because i too am in the market for a swing arm for my banshee. and i know what it's like to have a hobby on the side. i make rather good money at my current job but i get bored easily on my spare time and obviously this guys solution is to use his talents and produce 'quality' parts at a good price for the atv's that the rest of us ride as our hobby. i'm not going to knock him until i hear something about his parts...then again i won't order anything yet either. But i look at it like this......custom parts, pressed bearings, free powdercoating and shipped to my door for $200. even if you only get 1 summer out of it, it sure beats $1100 from yamaha. just my opinion. -
ttt....still in need of most of these parts.

i'm also in need of the ignition switch and kill switch that will fit an '01 model. they can be used but in good condition. thanks, caleb

just let me know when you come across them. i appreciate the replies and the help.

i'm currently looking for a few things to restore my 2001 banshee: upper a-arm bolts and nuts headlights in good condition thrust covers that go on the ends of the a-arms and protect the seals thumb throttle key cylinder with key throttle cable clutch cable if anyone has any extras of these laying around just drop me a price shipped to 43526 and i'll get back with you. also please leave an email address that way i can access this from work. please send all inquiries with prices to [email protected] thank, caleb mcalexander

thank you for those who replied. ronnies.com was exactly what i needed and gives better diagrams than my manual does. thank you again.

this may be a simple, yet stupid question. i was given a 2001 banshee but the machine is in pieces. i'm talking every nut, bolt, and washer has been removed and is in a box....unmarked. i've already bought a complete bolt kit for the entire bike but i'm finding that it didn't come with flat washers, lock washer, lock washer w/tabs, cotter pins. I also started to put the bike back together and found that i'm missing almost all the oil seals. i do have a brand new engine oil seal kit, but i'm talking about the oil seals for the steering shaft. i have a repair manual and it is extremely helpful but it doesn't tell part numbers of any of these items. it only says to replace them with new ones. how do i go about finding out what exactly i need without going to a yamaha dealer and paying a bundle. i've already bought a universal cotter pin kit and washer kit. the oil seals on the steering shaft are really bother me though because i can't find any info on them anywhere. any help would be appreciated. thank you.
