I'm just hoping that $200 will cover shipping!!! I'm not gonna pay a penny more than $600 to my door...no matter what he says.

I've never run them either, nor have I been in a situation where I wish I had 'em. I have IMS/Roll Design Pegs but maybe if I had stockers I'd reconsider it. Actually, I'd buy IMS pegs before I bolted on a set of nerfs. I find I spend a good deal of time on those 45 degree ends!! I thought the whole reason for nerfs was to keep wheels from touching while racing.... So for me: No. For you: Maybe.

I"m planning on it!! Prolly gonna show up on Wednesday the 11th. Save me some space for my RV and small trailer... If anyone needs some parts brought out, give a call and I'll pick 'em up.

Of the three duner places to ride...I rate 'em as: #1. Glamis. Park either off Gecko Rd, near the Glamis store, or off the washes. Endless sand....great duning...Old's for dragging. #2. Buttercup. Get off Grey Wells Rd and park on the wedge to the left of the circle near the entrance. Comp hill is close. Plenty of razorbacks and BIG bowls. #3. Gordon's. A very distant 3rd comparatively. Small race hill and good dunes are a ways away. Go there after the others and you will not go back... Post your upcoming trip(s) and maybe us locals will meet up!!

You know....TOWN!! You know on Friday Nights, we all go to "Town" and hang out at the Tasty Freeze. You just gotta listen to John Couger...I mean Melencamp. Everyone knows where town is....... :yelrotflmao: Just playing with 'ya man, good luck on your sale....
-
Maybe I gotta try camping farther south closer to wash 20 sometime then since some of y'all are adamant about the dunes being better down there...

I bought some PIAA H6M bulbs on eBay and don't need them. $23.00 is what I paid for them and offer 'em up for the same price + shipping or if you are going to Glamis, I'll bring 'em out for you!! I run PIAA's in my car, ZX10r, and Banshee. MEGA difference over stock. Let me know, Jay.

Leaded fuel is the best fuel for a 2 stroke. That was a period at the end of my sentence..... C12 is leaded too--go figure. I run AVGAS 100LL mixed 50/50 with pump premium and have nothing but good things to say about it. Been using it for 10+ years. I have NO carbon build up ( I use Yamalube 2R) and it is less than half the price of race gas. I still get it at the muni airport at the self serve fuel island.

The further south you are, the less dusty it usually is...depending on wind direction. Wash 12 will probably be rat packed with as many people as can fit. I've not been south of 12 so I can't say how it would prolly be, but with this being one of the biggest weekends, I'd think it'll be tight to at least wash 15... Sometimes there isn't much wind in the morning so the dust just hangs in the air. When you go out on a morning ride, sit on a high peak and look back to the wash area, you (sometimes) can barely see vehicles because it's so dusty...don't get me wrong...I'm not afraid of dirt!! They don't call it "the dust bowl" for nothing!! Usually the wind comes in from a WNW direction and the washes are on the downwind side. Check it on Google Earth, just punch in Glamis and it centers on the Glamis store. The washes are directly below it, just west of the train tracks. That area will be packed for the first 3 miles and about 1/4 mile wide with campers. After that, maybe not so sardine like... Wash 20 is 5 miles from the store. Gecko doesn't have anywhere near the amount of ATV traffic because people usually park more or less single file next to the road. The dust isn't a problem because people aren't blazing next to your camp at 30 +MPH and/or doing donuts next to you all night either. Plus, since the wind is usually at your back, whatever dust is pushed away from your camp. As for getting in and out, both places have 1 road leading in/out. If you are leaving mid day, good luck. I usually leave closer to sundown and haven't had to wait, but I left at 1PM over Thanksgiving and it took about an hour to get out from camping at wash 6. http://www.blm.gov/pgdata/etc/medialib/blm...x11closures.pdf They both have their advantages, but I like the dunes better at Gecko. Bear in mind I'm a 75/25 duner/dragger. What I hate is the fukn non-stop Ice Cream Trucks!!! http://www.stickdeath.com/iscream.html Side note...It's easier to sleep if you have ear plugs...
-
After camping once at Wash 6, I'll NEVER camp over there again!! It's a friggin dustbowl and a maze of campers....makes it kinda hard to find your camp when you have a 1/4 mile wide mile + long zone of people. I guess some like it though... IMHO, the dunes near the washes blow compared to the ones off Gecko, but it is easier to get to Olds from the washes because Sand Highway is pretty wide. I don't know of an easy, direct path from Old's to Gecko but the distance is nearly the same and I carry a handheld GPS...you should too!! Just a bit of cross country to get to camp... While I like camping on Gecko Loop, the non-stop Ice Cream Vendors on big holiday weekends make me wanna go cap something so I'm gonna shoot for Pad 2 or 2.5. It's a lot easier to find camp when it's next to the road. There area vendors on Gecko too, so if you need parts, you can get 'em there. Just my $.02.

There will be tens of thousands......

I need someone to save a space for me too!! Is anyone gonna cordon off an area?? I'll have a 28'RV & 10' trailer...arriving on 11FEB. Maybe we should get a vehicle count from us unlucky bastards that live within driving distance.... Plus, I can stop at a cycle shop on my way out if anyone needs parts....

Going to Glamis or Buttercup this weekend?

Great weekend w/o a big crowd. Sunday morning ride was epic....no tracks and t shirt/shorts temp!! Pic of the sky right before I drove back home to SanD. -
He bought his bike used...and I mean abUSED!! When you blip the throttle, it feels like everything is out of spec...like a shaker of ball bearings. The suspension is sacked, the front brake pulses, steering isn't smooth.... I guess with labor, his total was closer to $1400.00. What a gyp. I remember Yamaha recommended a crank change every 40 hours with their 426. I put 40 hours on my YZ in the first 3 weeks!! Gotta love that Yamalube 2r...

A 125 was a good dirt bike for me when I was 155lbs. Now I ride a YZ250 and I'm really happy with it. I've ridden a couple of the 4-fiddys and I still prefer my YZ in the dirt. I guess what I'm saying is that I'd prefer a 2 stroke YZ250 over anything else. That 4-p is like a better 125 and is setup for a lighter rider from the factory. If you want, you can resell the 4 poke and make a profit to pick up a nice '02-'03 YZ for less than you would get for that 4-p 250. Plus, you would be waaaayyy happier!! I watched my neighbor drop over a grand for a new top end...piston, valves, bla bla bla for his HonDuh. His 450 still sux. They have more power but I find I really don't need that kind of power unless I'm duning. Mine is def more nimble.... I bought a $98.00 YZ piston kit from North County Yamaha that included all the gaskets, seals, piston, rings, clips...done!! After riding the crap out of my YZ, nothing has worn out or broken. So much for that reliability misnomer....

Deb and I are heading to the sand this weekend...anyone else going? We had a couple of other that were going...now they're not so give a shout!! Maybe we'll meet up. Jay from SanD.

Do a search under zip 92227....

I was thinking...some here are so fuking agitated, it's like they've got sand in their vagina. I mean, they might as well do something constructive and make a pearl for me. Then I can post it on (Fe)eBay!! Nustwingers....that is some funny shite!! Illiteracie at it's finest.....

I loaded up on Friday and left San Diego at 8:30PM but turned around about 40 miles out (at the 79/8 Junction) because of 50+MPH winds from the north east. How was the wind out there over the weekend?? On second thought, maybe I DON'T wanna know!! Going out again next weekend...
-
I tried driving out there last night around 9:00PM but was beat back home by a 50+MPH headwind. You should try driving in the mountains with a 28' MoHo when you get broadsided by a 60MPH gust... It was like explosions were going off next to me...pushing me over!! Guess I'll watch the Charger game on Sunday instead...

Come out to Glamis and try out mine!! I'll save you a spot.....

I agree with everything Rippen said... Maybe the reason I like the SKII's is I used to drive my 400HP Road Runner like those good ol' boys drove "The General Lee" in Hazard County!! I've seen some of those vids of those hill climbs out of the hole...I'd run straight paddles there as well, sho fo!! I'd like to try out a set of the 10" rim Haulers too. Never ridden on 'em, but would like to. If you were gonna get any kind of V paddle tire, wouldn't you automatically get it in a 10" rim size? I can see questioning which size in a Hauler.... As I've said before, my ATV experience is solely limited to Glamis....
-
I'm tired of Glamis....NOT. But I'm gonna head out to Buttercup this weekend...maybe meet Kevin and see the new border fence. Anyone else planning a trip out there this weekend?? Arriving late Friday night....

I'm not a quad guru so my opinions are based on my own experience...hence my own point of view. That being said, I think that 9" is the stocker size rim while the aftermarket uses (mostly) 8" or 10". The smaller the rim, the more air volume is in the tire at a given PSI. When I air down my Haulers (21x12x8" 8 paddle) and try to dune with them, the low pressure/sponginess allows a lot of deflection and they basically hook up while I'm trying to slide. Then they uncoil (think dragster tire) and slingshot me out of the corner, or mid corner, or every 20'. Not exactly what you want to do in a 300 ' bowl. The profile of the Hauler on a 8" rim is like a donut , so it's designed to dig in. The larger rim gives a more consistent ride quality and you will find that most 10" V paddle tires are shaped with a flatter profile...like a barrel...so you can slide easier to the side because they float on top of the sand. Don't look at the paddles, look at the tire carcass. Duning is all about power sliding!! I can do a hairpin powerslide U turn in second gear...all pitched out. You can't do that on a hauler because they have better traction...IMHO too much traction for a primarily duning tire. I see it like this: A typical day for me at Glamis is a morning Duner ride before breakfast. Maybe 3 more 1+ hour rides throughout the day. Night ride to Old"s (the hill everyone races at) and burn a tank there. Maybe a night duner ride late night if it's warm out... I can go through 10 gallons a day sometimes!! So for me, if I'm duning for 4 + hours and doing like 10 races, the tire I want is the best tire for the majority of the riding I do. 4 hours VS. 5 minutes. That's like a 48 to 1 ratio!! Gee, what to do?? My primary tire is a V paddle...Sand Tires Unlimited Sand Skate II's are my favorite so far. For that 1 second you gain off the line because you have a set of drag tires (Haulers on 8" rims) you have to live with the comparatively unfriendly sliding characteristics of it for the remainder of your riding. If I recall, you don't have a drag Banshee so I"m gonna go out on a limb here and say that you would probably have a vastly greater experience on a set of V's. Other members are right...you can dune on a set of Haulers. I just don't like it near as much. Not after experiencing my SKII's. I've never tried a set of the 10" rim Haulers...maybe they're a lot different than my 8" ones. Just my $0.02.
