That my water pump not working and my quad over heating caused it to lose compression?? My quad overheated today after maybe a 10 minute ride through the woods and then down a road in 4th and 5th gear. I got back to the house and it was puking coolant on my pipe out of the overflow tube. I tested my compression a while back and it was low I was going to redo the top end soon. now Im wondering if the water pump not working caused my compression to drop because of overheating when I first got the quad It overheated on me a time or two but it was 98+ degrees out when it happened. Its 71 here now theres no way thats to hot to ride for 10 min I started it without the radiator cap off a few weeks ago and let it warm up but due to the vibrations at higher than idle rpm I couldnt tell if it was flowing or not . What should I do, drain the radiator and rip the water pump cover off and see if the impellar is spinning when I kick it over? Ive ridd

LOW COMPRESSION 100lbs
bansheefourseven replied to bansheefourseven's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
My buddy checked his 250r the same time as I did and he had 150 psi so Im sure the tester is good. Its a 96 stocker shee and the top end has never been redone. The guy said he hardly ever rode it but dont they all. I checked each cylinder individually. You dont have to take the spark plug out of the other cylinder when you check one side do you? I did have the throttle held wide open. Im wondering because I was surprised that they have lost the exact same amount of pressure both were holding steady at 99 lbs and held for a min or two but wouldnt go no higher no mater how many times you kicked it. Im kinda pissed because I coulda got it a couple hundy cheaper had I known before I picked it up! -

LOW COMPRESSION 100lbs
bansheefourseven replied to bansheefourseven's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Im going to have them honed and re ring it if everything looks ok and run the piss out of it.!!! -
I just ran a compression test on my 96 shee today and it was reading around 100psi :ermm: I know now its time for a new top end. It feels like its running strong but 100 lbs with the throttle wide open is low . What should I do? Money is an object so lets not suggest a stroker of any kind. Should I just hone it and replace the rings? Or bore it (.010 or .020) over and replace the pistons and rings just to be safe. I am getting some T5s and a trail port job eventually but I dont want it stroked yet. Im also going to get a hi flo water pump (impellar) and a new radiator cap because it has been puking coolant after short rides on my small track at the house (Although it has been 90+ lately but it still seems to be over heating) My plugs are light brown and very clean so jetting is not an issue. I popped the radiator cap off and started it to see if it was flowing and I couldnt tell due to the vibrations. Should it be obvious that its flowing or does it not flow that fast? Any help would be great!! Thanks AK47

I am relatively new here and was in the same situation as you. I picked up a bone stock 96 shee that sat in a garage and was ridden a total of 6 weekends sine the guy bought it. $2000 Checked everuthing Yesterday I got to run with a bone stock 06 honda 450r and a bored stroked 250r on some asphalt. We ran the first 2 races from a dead stop for about 300 or so feet. The 450r pulled us both and beat me by 1.5 quads and he beat the 250 r by a quad or so. I was impressed and a little pissed. THEN we doubled the distance, when I shifted into 6 th gear I was passing him with the 250r just a tire ahead of me. I then understood the power of the new 4 strokes. I weigh 240 lbs but ride it like its stolen so an average sized rider or one 50 lbs lighter would have no trouble keeping up with a 450 . The next race from a 3rd gear roll he pulled out a quad and we both then walked right by him. It was fun . I was happy for what the stock banshee could do. Now with pt pipes K&Ns cool head and new jetting Hes gonna need a good head start to win.

True but racing is racing. Slowing them down will only slow them down people will still get hurt. I wish him the best of luck and a full recovery , he was one of my favorites right now. Ill miss watching him NATALIE and GUST on espn2. I think this week sat is the race he was hurt in. But I could be wrong.

A little bit of an update from another site: Doug gust had something different to say... Talked with Doug Gust tonight and he told me that a specialist was in this morning and he thinks that Jeremiah will have a full recovery. The spinal cord itself is not damaged but he has the two vertabres pinched up against it and thats was causing the loss of feeling.

Sweet sled man. I just got rid of my 900cc mod 98 srx . My buddy had a 98 1000 tcat looked similar to that one . They haul the mail for sure. Nothing beats a triple piped triple T cat. My buddy clocked his at 136 with some simple clutch work and 244 1 inch carbides on the ice in northern michigan. My mod sled ran a 130 and it was far from stock. Its actually not as bad of a trail machine as ya think. But if you plan on jumping it which is a big no no with a triple triple upgrade the suspension. Otherwise pin it and grin!! Itll hit 100 before you can blink your eyes a few times. We used to run a trail next to the highway, and at 70 mph you can pull the skis 8 inches off the snow and walk away from cars doing the speed limit on the highway.

Well fellas Im a 26 yr old thats a newer banshee owner and member on this site. I just got back from winning my first heat and finishing second in the main at a local indoor track on my ...get this Bone stock 96 banshee. It was beginner over 25 class. I lost the holeshot to a guy on a 450r and then passed him up after the third turn through the whoops(It was painfull trust me). I won that heat but lost the main to a guy on a 250r from Bellville michigan. I feel a little like I was thrown out of a moving car and dragged for a few miles but im so out of shape its pathetic. Third place was a guy on a bone stock lt450. It was pretty cool racing with the old and new quads. I held my own though. Me and the dude that won were raggin on the 4 stroke guys that thought we couldnt touch em. The track had only 2 doubles not very big and no triples. Im going to soak in the hot tub and get drunk good night guys!

did any of you notice that its much harder to steer with the fronts flipped? I was going to do the backs only so that the center of the front and rear tires is aligned ! The backs will only be a couple inches wider than the front but thats normal!

Theres a pair of sparkys on ebay for the t5s I just saw em today there at like 25$ right now for the two of them

1. Is there anyway to check to make sure your water pump is working?? Like with the radiator cap off when cold and let her run to see if its flowing as it should be? 2. I was running the shee around the yard for about 10-15 minutes and she started spitting out the overflow tube not much just a little spit up. I was only hitting my jump a few times and not much getting out of 2nd or 3rd gear. Its like 96 degrees here today and I know these are tempermental with overheating, what do you think? I sat and idled for a minute while I shaped the jump would this have caused it? I felt the hose coming off the water pump and it was hot but I couldnt tell if it was flowing!

Ive heard quite a few people on here say that the 1996 banshee was the best year banshee. Whats different? I thought they were all the same other than the J-arm years and graphics. I happen to have just bought a 96 shee and it looks pretty much normal. I heard someone say something about the displacement of something??? what could it be ? Its the same motor right? Based on the RZ 350 streetbike motor. I thought they were identical? Can anyone help me out?

NOOB NEEDS HELP WITH LAUNCH ON ASPHALT
bansheefourseven posted a topic in General Banshee Discussion
Heres the deal. I just got my banshee a short while ago and I cant figure this out. My buddy and I lined em up on the asphalt in front of the house. I left in first gear and wheelied way to high so he got the jump on me about a quad length or so. We ran up to 5th gear and he was around 2.5 to 3 quad lengths in front of me and then shut em down to avoid neighborhood conflict. We ran em twice with the same result. Im about 60lbs heavier than him so he has the weight advantage by a bunch. My shee is bone stock (for now) and his 86 is .030 over and stroked (not sure how much but he was told when he bought it.) When either one of us takes them both for a rip the shee definitely feels a shit ton faster all the way through. I was definitely reeling him in when we got to fifth gear and Im positive I can hold him off if I get a better start. What can I do to get a better start on asphalt pavement? Starting in first just spins em a bit and then wheelies so I have to clutch it a bit to get it down and then get back in her to try to catch up. Ive thought about leaving high rev in second but this seems as if it will set me on the grab bar if im not sitting on the radiator when we leave? Anyone have any tips? I know my stock shee can win but im an obe won sheenobie in training just coming off a warrior so I never much drag raced previously. Im gonna practice but I wanted some tips if anything before I go tear the tranny up learnng. -
Not sure if I showed em yet Im a noob and am addicted to this banshee like an expensive drug! Its had only 5 or 6 tanks of fuel thru it! compression is perfect and it looks like new after removing stickers and a little elbow grease!!

NEWB HERE JUST CHECKIN IN
bansheefourseven replied to bansheefourseven's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Crooked lake is near gladwin if Im not mistaken. My ridin buds dad has a place up there he just got a few months ago. Im coming from riding the grayling/frederic area off I-75 exit 264 for the last few seasons. Bull Gap is definitely in the plans for the year but not sure when. My banshee is gettin dropped off tomorrow night. Thanks for the welcome all and I will soon be sharing the addiction. I already have my eye on a few goodies as I have become a full bore ebay junkie as well. -
Hey fellas, whats happening? I am a 26 yr old shee newb and am just saying hello to all. Im coming up from a (laugh all you want) warrior and had a few questions. I have a 1999 shee that just had the top end redone .020 over with toomeys, K&N other than that pretty much stock other than suspension. How are they in the trails because thats mostly the riding I do and Im a big guy 6' 250lbs. Its got +2+1 a-arms and works all around valved for a 225lbs guy so its close enough I guess. It also has a LSR +4 axle. stock length swing arm. My warrior was bored and stroked to 430ccs and still had trouble with a piped filtered 400ex. So I am so glad to be back in 2 stoke dusty smoke land. Im a pretty experienced rider and like to go fast within limits. Ill take the double jump when its presented to me but I do much better with my large ass planted and on the gas. I sold my triple piped triple 700 yamaha sled for my warrior and that was like going from corvette to chevette so Its great to be back. My sled dynoed at 169 horse and 121 tq at the crank so she was anus tightening fast. What kinda setups are working for the trails. Dont get me wrong a few dune trips are in the works but mostly trails up near crooked lake in michigan. Im from Taylor which is pretty close to detroit metro airport. Ive got holeshots all around and love the way they slide and grip when I want. My buddy is the sole reason for me getting the shee so Id like to say thanks to you B man (250r guy) Ill be around alot and look forward to meeting some of ya on the trails. Any replies would be great
