With the lid on your going to be around 270, with the lid off you will be closer to 300's. Right now i have fmf fattys around sea level and in cold temp's I have been running a 330 which is a little rich but runs great. It's better to be a little rich then a little lean. Start big and work down. After you got your main done adjust your needles, I have mine on the 4th clip but I have heard 5th clip with stock reeds and 4th clip with aftermarket reeds but it all depends on your machine. Hope this helps
-
Your running pretty lean if it runs good with the choke out (all the way or halfway?) I'd say if it runs good with the choke out halfway or all the way then you will have to up atleast 2 main jet siizes and maybe a bigger pilot. I'm running 320's in 40 degree weather 500 feet above and I don't even have porting. It's all trial and error, I just went through it. YOu may want to do a plug chop too.
-
could your jetting be off? because by putting the slide in the other way limits the amount of air getting to the motor wich would make you run rich so maybe you have to step up on your pilot?
-
When I installe the slides with the cut outs to the engine it ran like crap!! It had no power any where I put the cotout toward the airbox and it ran like a raped ape You figure out the right from the left yet?
-
First off the cutoff of the slide should be facing the airbox. To decide which is the right or left put the slide in the carb and see if the little silver dot on the slide lines up with the peek hole on the carb. If the dot on the slide is on the opposite side of the peek hole then it is the wrong slide. I had this problem too.

The oring from the exhaust pipe maybe? Is it pretty thick or thin?

Spark Plugs are fouling, what to do?
badbanshee01 replied to badbanshee01's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
I just did a wot test with brand new plugs, ya know where you smack brand new plugs in and run it wide open for 10 seconds then shut it off. Well I did that and when I got done I looked at my pipes and they were glowing red for about 6 inches after they exit the motor This scared the shit out of me I don't know if this hurt my motor any from overheating. Anyways aobut the plug it has a nice medium brown around it but for a quarter of the way around it there is a twist in it.by that I mean it comes up toward the end of the porcealin and it also gets black their. I have read about one guys plug doing this but nobody knew why. So, I guess this means I am good on my mains, man 330's seem high but they work. I'l try messing with the needle now. It could idle all day, it's perfect. Thanks for all of your help you have given me through this hassle -
Paul Turner Mid Range Pipe has the most low and mid range power of any pipe out there. I have fatty's and they are a little better for low end over stock but rip in the high rpm's. I have also heard pro circuits are a pretty good mid-range pipe that may suit your needs. I think T-5's are more top end than anything. Be sure to upgrade your intake system while your at it. I got the pro flow adapter kit and it is nice

Spark Plugs are fouling, what to do?
badbanshee01 replied to badbanshee01's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
I just tried some 330's and it ran about the same as it did with the 310's. The plugs had a darker color but were still starting to turn white on the porcelin. I could go richer I think since it doesn't seem rich but I'm not sure. the biggest I have is a 340 and I'm getting pretty close to swithcing to it -
Spark Plugs are fouling, what to do?
badbanshee01 replied to badbanshee01's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
Ok, so I changed my mix to 32:1and installed some 310 mains. It started right up and ran beautiful, no oil dripping out of the silencers like before with 24:1. After about 10 minutes of riding I decide to check my plugs. The plugs were used ones that were black but now the entire porcelin color was white So, how big should I go up on my main and the needle? It ran great but I'm sure I am lean THanks -

One cylinder would stop firing while the other would still go but both plugs were pretty black when I looked at them. I run 24:1 oil premix with yamalube which is too rich I know. I plan to start running 32:1 so should I try that before rejetting or still go down one size on the main? Thanks alot -
I believe Highlites makes a desert seat that is taller than stock but I have people not liking them.

Hi, A couple weeks ago I jetted my quad with a 320 main and needle on the 4th clip. Mods are in my sig. However, since then the temp. has increased about 10 degrees. When I ran it today i fouled a set of brand new spark plugs after about a minute of hard riding. I'm going through plugs like crazy so what main should I step down to? I don't think I should have to rejet for a 10 degree difference so maybe I was rich before and now it just made it richer? Thanks alot

Difference between Kenda Knarly and the new XCtype
badbanshee01 replied to badbanshee01's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
anyone know the difference? -
Hi, I recently saw that Kenda came out with a XC version of the Kenda Knarly and was wondering what the difference there was between that and the original Knarly. I am pretty set on one of these but I am still open for opionions. My stock tires spin like crazy and I want to upgrade. I mainly ride in my field which is grass and hard pack dirt. I ride in the snow in the winter also and barely any mud. I want a tire that will hook good in all these conditions and also one that will last a long time. Thanks alot

I bent the needle yesterday and I bent it back to pretty much staight and I put it back in and it ran ok so do I have to get a new one or will this be fine? Thanks

Jetting for new pipes and no airbox lid
badbanshee01 replied to badbanshee01's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
The ground strap is a fairly dark brown color(more black than brown) and it change color right in the middle of the bend, which is right. It is black halfway up the bend but then it changes to a slightly lighter black color(almost getting to dark brown maybe?) I did a wot throttle test at the end of the day yesterday and there is a light brown color on the porcealin at the bottom of it. You are supposed to have a 2mm brown ring here so I may be a little lean on the main I believe. Also I tried the 5th clip and it seemed to run a little worse than it did in the 4th. It seemed a little rich. I wish I could post a plug pic. but I don't have a website. It is running excellent everywhere but I may try one bigger on the main jsut to be safe. Thanks alot banchetta for all of your help through this. Oh, and one more thing. I slightly bent a jet needle while removing the carbs today so I tried to bend it back and got it pretty close. I put it back in and it ran fine so do you think I have to replace it? Where would i buy another one? Thanks again -

What is the ground strap or finger? is it the metal piece that does a 90 degree bend over the electode? -
Jetting for new pipes and no airbox lid
badbanshee01 replied to badbanshee01's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
I finally got some 320 jets and I started tearing my quad down. I found something very scary When I took the slide out of the carbs ( the thing that goes up and down with the throttle that holds the needle) I noticed that I had the left switched with the right And, they were turned 180 degrees so the curved edge was to the front, and not the back. Anyways I corrected this and put in the 320's and left the clip on the 4th spot and turned the air screw to 1.5. It fired up nice and ran 3 times as better as before After about 10 minutes of hard riding I did a wot plug test. After this I took out the plugs and they were just about all white except for the middle porcealin of the plug. However, if I would have held the throttle longer they would have been all white I believe. So, this means that I have to step up to yet another size. What size do you think I should get? Should I try moving the clip to the 5th place even though it runs pretty strong their now? It runs really good everywhere right now so I would keep it like it is, but my wot test told me to go up so I guess I have to? Thanks alot for all the help you have gave me -
Jetting for new pipes and no airbox lid
badbanshee01 replied to badbanshee01's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
The biggest main jets i can find are at magic racing and the biggest is 320's. Do you think I could get them from a dealer? Or anyother online store? thanks -
Jetting for new pipes and no airbox lid
badbanshee01 replied to badbanshee01's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
I beleive it is rich in the midrange because the end of the porcelin is black. Also, the midrange is running really rich i believe. It doesn't have good throttle response until the throttle is nearly wide open. I have the air screw at 1.5 but that should only effect low rpm's. It fires up good and idles fine and is OK to a quarter throttle, but not perfect.I may try 1 turn in I guess but I don't know if that will make a big difference. I believe I have to put the clip back in the middle position to make it about right and then get a bigger main. -
Hi, I recently installed fmf fatty pipes and removed the air lid. I moved the clip to the 4th position and installed a 290 main. It starts right up and idles good but it feels rich in the midrange and lean up top. When I cut my plug apart after a wot run, there is about a 2mm thick line on the base of the porcelin, but it is very light color and you can barely see it. However, the plug is entirely black on 3/4 of the porcelin closest to the electode. I have searched and what my plug is telling my is main is way lean and my mid is pretty rich. Correct me if I'm wrong. Hopefully I can get this jetting done

What size to step up to on main jets?
badbanshee01 replied to badbanshee01's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
Should I ride around for about a half hour not letting it idle and then at the end do a wot test? The plugs would turn black when I start it cold and I don't think a plug will turn black to tan. In my 10 second wot test the plugs were white. I don't know if this is the proper way to test them though. I am thinking about 320 mains. -

But I thought you were supposed to do the test with a brand new plug and do wot for about 10 seconds. If I would ride around usual, the plug would probally turn black . I don't want to ride it anymore since I believe it is lean on the main I think.I have just been reading the porcelain on the plug(the white stuff) Where is the ground strap at? It starts right up and Idles good, which tells me the pilot is good. The low end is OK, but not right. The mid is not all that great either, probally worse than the low and mid. Once I get it in the powerband up top, which seems like a higher rpm than stock, it runs pretty good at wot but it does studder sometimes. So, what do you think I should step up too? How should I do my plug test? Thanks alot -
I recently installed some fmf fatty's and the pro design air filter kit and removed the airbox lid. I raised the clip on the needle(4th spot) and I installed 290 mains. It starts up and idles pretty good, but when I did the wot test the plugs were bare white mostly, no tan color at all. My question is how much bigger I should go up on the main? I am at 500 ft. and it's around the freezing point. Thanks for any advice you have
