  1. I read through some of your other posts and you're in the same spot I was last winter. If you haven't already bought one - buy one, nothing else like it. I've had all kinds of bikes and quads in the past and raced a few of them. Always wanted a Banshee but never bough one because the guys I ride with don't like them so all I hear is negative stuff like peaky power, front end heavy, unreliable...I bought one anyway this spring and totally love it. Maintenance isn't any more time consuming than any other quad, just keep it lubed and adjusted, oil changed, filter clean, etc. You'll be rewarded with a well running quad that can be modified for whatever kind of riding you do. Endless mods are available. And, read and use this site, I don't post much but I read everything and it's very helpful. Somebody in the past has almost always asked what I need to know. As far as rebuild, depends on how hard it's ridden and how much. Don't listen to people that tell you they need rebuilt every 20 hours...I have well over 50 hours on my stock 2002 top end this summer alone, plus what the first owner did in the 2 yrs he had it, and no problems at all.
  2. Hey JT, where do you ride in NY? I'm in Mass, but our trails shut down in about 3 weeks so party's over. We go down to a spot in NY off Rt 84, exit 5 I think, not too far from Newburgh prison. It's pretty good, some smaller pits and some trails. You could spend a few hours there. If it's close let me know and maybe we can hook up there before the snow falls.
  3. dude, it said I like my mom and it can't work out?! 3 minutes of my life I'll never get back...and now I need to see a shrink too.
  4. how close are you to NY line - not sure exactly where Milford is. THere's a pretty good spot down off 84 over the NY line. If yer close let me know and I'll get you directions.
  5. I was in the same boat as you earlier this summer. I have always run holeshots with good luck, so I grabbed a set. Stock tires I had suck, and they were pretty worn out too which made it even worse. Loco has said a few times in other threads that Knarly's are pretty good, so I bought a set of them too. They hook up at least as good as the holeshots, prob better - and they're cheaper. Give the Knarly's a shot, you won't be disappointed. Once I wear these 2 sets out, I'll prob just stick with the Knarlys.
  6. Some of the state parks in MA allow you to ride in 'em, have to have a MA reg. though. I live in western MA and ride at Tolland and October Mt a lot. They are pretty good, kinda rough in places though. Not sure how your quad is set up, gearing, tire size, attempts at finding some low end...it will all help on these trails. I just have T5's, filter, and 22" holeshots and I get around fine. Here's their site if yer intersted, there's stuff out in the east part of the state too on there, I've never been to them though. http://www.mass.gov/dcr/recreate/orv.htm If you get out to western MA let me know.
  7. yep, you did, I was just passing along the web site to Sycoracer to check out...
  8. Gorr's web is Eric-Gorr.com Do a search, this has come up a few times and I remember someone listing a bunch of web sites for companies that do porting work. I've heard great things about Gorr, but do your homework and check out a few. I'm sending mine to Gorr once quad season is done here and I can deal with the down time...
  9. These guys are right - 25's are going to be way too big. I think 22" are about as big as sport tires get anyway. Plus, 25's may not fit - check the clearance between the front side of the rear tire and the back side of your heal guard...might hit. I just put 22" Holeshots on mine and I ride some pretty rough trails in the hills of Western Mass, lots of rocks, roots, mud, etc. It goes awesome with the 22's and has plenty of room under the rear skid. Mine is pretty stock too, just pipes and some bolt on's, spins them fine. Get some 22" Holeshots or Knarlys and you'll be fine.
  10. Mine does the same exact thing when it's cold, starts up great but not happy running over 4 or 5k. You really need to let them warm up good. I've heard you can cold seize them by reving them too much when they're cold. I'd give it a good 2 or 3 minutes, then just take it kinda easy for a couple minutes before you get into it. If it's stock, the jetting should be good unless somebody screwed around with it, maybe just needs a good cleaning though... and welcome to the HQ! I'm new too and these guys have already helped me out a lot, you're in a good spot here.
  11. Thanks guys, I appreciate all the info - sounds like 22's will work well enough. I think dropping a tooth off the front is a good idea, cheap and easy anyway so can't lose. I think I'll prob end up going with 2 sets. 20" Holeshots for the sissy trails and some 22" Knarly's for the bad ass crappy stuff. I'll get them ordered today - now I just need the heat and humidity in Mass to break...too freakin hot to ride the past couple weeks.
  12. cool, I appreciate the info - and the picture, I wondered if 22's would look huge on it but looks good to me. Tks much
  13. Need some help with tires. I have stock tires now, which are horrible. I ride mostly trails - some are open but a lot have rocks, roots, mud, etc, so I'm trying to get the best traction / rear clearance I can without sacrificing too much performance. Also, I don't have 60 or 70 hp to spin huge tires. I have stock gearing, only thing I've done so far power-wise is pipes (T5's) & jetting. I'm going to do a woods port and Noss head, maybe single carb set up, and that's prob going to do it power wise. I've always put 20" Holeshots on the quads and had great luck with them, but they were 4 strokes and could lug a heavier tire around. Does anyone run a Shee with 22" Holeshots? I'm worried they'll be too big and heavy so I was hoping someone out there has tried it...
  14. this is great shit! I was wondering what I was going to do all day at work today...thanks!
  15. sorry, I was gone for few days...I agree it sucks, you pay sales tax when you buy the quads but the state doesn't step up to give you any places to go. Newburgh is a good hour or so from Waterbury. If yer interersted send me a PM, I'm sure I'll be going down in April sometime once all the rain we got (and are still getting) drains, it will be like a lake down there right now.
  16. how much shipped to MA 01001? Pictures?
  17. my friend is in New Hartford. We go up to the Otis MA area a lot, they don't open up till around 5/1 I think. Actually, there's a spot we go to over the NY line around Newburgh that's pretty cool. If you're interested in hooking up let me know and I'll PM you before our next ride. Hopefully we're going back down to Newburgh in couple weeks or so.
  18. where are you in CT? I'm in Mass, but one of my buddys is in CT, we usually get out once a week or so and ride in up in western mass. always lookin for new riders though
  19. Not sure how far you're looking to travel, but Mass has some state parks you can legally ride in. I've been to October Mountain, Beartown, and Tolland. They're all pretty good but not a lot of wide open fast trails, mostly technical stuff. You can get info at www.mass.gov/dcr/recreate/orv.htm Also, check out www.nhatv.com for NH stuff, I've never been up there on the trails though so not sure what they're like.
  20. Skids, definitally. I've used PRM's in the past and I liked them a lot. They held up pretty good & I kinda beat the snot out of them. It's got the stock one now which will be pretty short lived around here. I never heard of Engine Ice either, thought the other guy was yankin my chain like telling me my headlight fluid was low or somethin. I'll check it out through, tks both for the heads up!
  21. Guess I'll prob skip the radiator for now and see what it's like one summer's here. I checked out eric Gorr's web site, looks pretty good. Couple people have brought it up now. Smaller front sproket will definitally help. I have an RM 125 I had to drop down in front too to make it reasonalble to ride in the woods and it definitally helped. You guys have been very helpfull, thanks much!
  22. yeah, I found an article online about a test on the single exhaust from dyno-port or something like that and they liked it too. My list of crap I want is getting longer, my girlfriend will not be impressed when stuff starts ariving in the mail. I have a comfortable couch.
  23. Yeah, unfortunatelly I guess I agree on the 21's. ALthought when I think banshee, safe isn't the first thing that comes to mind! Guess I'll start with Noss head with 21's, and I've found some radiators for around $400 that seem to be pretty good. I still have to add on skids and bigger back tires, has 18's now which are kinda small for the trails around me. Jury's still out on the Gnarleys, but thanks to the guy who said his buddy likes his. I hear too much negative about the 2 into one carb...that's a back burner item for now...
  24. You guys think 20cc domes on the Noss head would be pushing it on pump gas or would I need to mix in some race gas? Usually ride around 1000 feet.
  25. Hope I'm doing this right, first time...I just bought my first Banshee, 2002, pretty stock, just set of T-5's, jetted, box opened up. I do mostly trail riding so I'm interested in some more bottom end and improved cooling. (PLEASE don't all send me stuff back saying Banshee's suck on trails and I should have bought a YFZ or something...I know!! But I've had all kinds of bikes / quads and always wanted a Banshee - couldn't wait any more!!) Based on what I've read in past discussions here, I've already decided on a Noss head, prob with 21's. Anybody have experience with the FMF Gnarley pipes? Supposedly good for bottom end, but I can't find much info on them. I see Fatty's all over, and I have one on my RM and love it. How about the Trinity one carb set up? I've heard good and bad...and I'm not really conderned about gaining top end. (Don't really want to lose any though!) Last, who makes a good oversized radiator? Any input is greatly appreciated, tks!
