  1. You know, or maybe not, they have different transfer rated HDMI cables in Gbps? The higher end cables are generally capable of data flow up to 14.9 Gbps, as where entry level or old standard was 2.2 Gbps. Do you think a 2.2Gbps cable could handle the transmision information, say from a PS3 that is rated at 6.68 Gbps with 12 bit color and 1080p? Do you then think the more expensive 14.9 capable cable would provide a better picture than say a 2.2 Gbps cable hooked up to a PS3? These cables have to meet certain standards and it isn't just as simple as it works or it doesn't. Trust me, I've seen the difference between a standard and high end HDMI cable on the PS3. I feel bad because I wanted to save some money on a cheaper set of HDMI cables for my youngest sons PS3. My older son has one as well and they both have the same identical LCD's and PS3's. My 6 year old hasn't figured out his brothers picture is far superior to his, thank god cause it will cost me a 100 dollars to fix it. The only difference between the two system is the quality of the HDMI cable, and believe me the difference is night and day.
  2. Here's a question to ponder? Are all digital transport cables created equally? Can a 30 dollar HDMI have the same picture as a 150 dollar high end cable as well as other types of cables for that matter? In a perfect world I would say that digital signals reach the intended source without degredation, but that just isn't the case. A lot of variable come into play, this is why I think we see differences, either way, depending on those variables one may look or sound better than another.
  3. Honestly Justin, and it may just be my computer and the ones I've used in the past. The transition from one frame to the next is not as smooth. It's real noticeable the faster the frames move. Can't explain it. My dvd was hooked up through component video cable and I'm using rgb from the computer. Maybe that's the problem, I dunno, I'm not a computer guru. On the fiber optic vs analogue, I was like you, why not just run the fiber optic to a dedicated receiver and let it do all the work and not pay for all the extra internal of the dvd player? Then all this extra money spent can only be used on whatever format disc your player can play, which is really everything in my case. Well for some reason and really can't point to specifics but the 6 channel analogue transfer provided better audio quality than anything that could be processed from the fiber optic cable after the fact. I never researched this indepth as to why, just looked at the specs of comparisons between the two and Denons recommendation was 6 channel analogue transfer as were most all high-end units at the time. Not sure if that has changed now or not. Not sure why the opticals could not meet the demands of data transfer. That may be different today or maybe not, I'm really not sure as I haven't kept up with changes in fiber optic technology. But I totally understand your point on the matter and really makes sense, but at the time 6 channel analogue was superior and it still may be. Like I say, I'm unsure as of late. But it does also have fiber optic out, of course it's not that old.
  4. Well like you say, in my words though, dac's are one thing, architecture is another. It's like motherboards and processors. To say a computer can't play dvd's or blu-rays, I didn't. I don't know what blu-ray looks like from a pc. All I can vouch is DVD output quality. Is it ok? yea probably for most, not for me though. Honestly, in my study I have a nice gateway computer which I use to (did) watch dvd's on with a 42" Toshiba Regza 1080p cineman series. After a couple movies on it, I was sick of it. I used an old sony dvd player in my attic and hooked it up. I couldn't believe the difference in playback quality with just a cheap ole 120 dollar sony unit. Now granted I have a Gateway GT4010 media center computer with an Invidia c51g chipset. Granted not the latest greatest by any means but it is also no slouch. It honestly is nothing compared to a cheap, old technology sony. Neither come close to the denon. It wouldn't to me really make sense to spend countless hundreds of dollars to equate what a cheap dedicated home unit can accomplish. You compare dollars to dollars spent and pc's are behind and in high end scenario's can't produce. Granted some of the PC peripheral hardware companies cater to some of the high end folks, probably not too much unlike yourslef. but to really compare high end PC audio/video to high end home audio/video really isn't fair to the PC market. It's just flat out not what there geared to do, reason cause the demand is minimal. To put the architecture of my dvd player into a pc cabinet would probably increase it's size x2, add 50lbs of weight and add 3k in price. Not realistic in any means to match high end home theater equipment. Most people want that type of quality on there 50+ inch HD big screens, as where most of the population use small monitors. I may be an exception, but then again I don't sit at a desk behind my computer.
  5. Justin, you show me a sound card with K-grade burr brown DA converters, using 3 per channel and I will apologize. Your definition of high end and mine I'm sure are a little different. Computer's can't touch the technology placed in our living rooms. Why, there is no demand for it and what is out there if any would be unrealistically expensive. For the average person, yes a computer does well. A computer just doesn't have the space to incorporate the componenets, such as these large and expensive DA convters. I'm sure 6 of them incorporated in my dvd player cost more than your intire computer system. But then again it is a high end unit, though it's old it will outperform anything a computer can muster sound and dvd wise. And BTW: My unit is an old 2001 Denon dvd9000, which is old technology that I doubt todays computer technology has ever even dabbled into.
  6. banshe-man, your pretty much getting it figured out as well as most of the public. Adding an hdmi to the x-box reminds me of people putting hood scoops on their cars while keeping a closed intake system. Or in reality, it's like putting lip-stick on a pig. Makes it look better on the outside with no real benefit. The PS3 requires the HDMI, that's why they put it on there in the 1st place.
  7. What do you mean utilize blu-ray? You mean having games that actually require a blu-ray, as some of them don't even though they are on one? The blu-ray currently is capable of 50 gigs, the 360 is capable of 9 gigs. This difference will become apparent real quick with the release of GTA-4 and many more games in the future. 360 just doesn't have the room for these large 1080p games. This will be there downfall and if they want to keep up I'd expect a system revamp with incorporated internal hd-dvd and games on them as well. Someone said they have internal hd-dvd's now, which is crap. Even if they do this they will still be behind the blu-rays capabilities. RIP, you must be smoking crack!! "For the true gamer the 360 is the way to go, esp. since it now has HDMI digital out instaed of just the analog. " LMAO!!! That's a drop in the hat to what it needs. I have both systems, have had the x-box 360 since it's inception as well as the PS3. But to say those games run better on the x-box 360 is just so far from the truth it's rediculous. You must be reading some misinformation from a web site or something. Also remember the cell processor is a new critter and a leap in technology, it takes more time to gear these games for one. It's just like anything that's new.
  8. I hope the computers can play hd-dvd and blu-ray formats better than they played dvd's. The quality from those units were nothing to write home about, regardless of video card quality. But then again there has never really been a need for high end video processing units for computers as well as sound, at least not in the consumer market. Also remember you can't compare the speed of a PC based video card to the PS3's cell.
  9. Hey, just remember you have to crawl before you can walk. If you don't have pong and tetris mastered like I do, you will get crawled and walked all over. lol
  10. Is there anyway you guys can even get 1080p out of your 360 games? If so it would have to be upconverted cause I can't see being able to get 1080p resolution information on a standard dual layered dvd. I can't wait to see native 1080p on cod4. Yea Eric, we better just enjoy our friendship now, cause after we play against each other, I'm sure you may feel a little different. lol But hey, look at the bright side, we can play on the same team which I'm sure you will recommend.
  11. Yep, definitely a Resistance nerd. It is just flat out a killer game!!! Man if COD4 is as good, I'm in trouble. Can't wait to see 1080p though. Was a big difference for me going from a 720p monitor to a 1080p monitor on a 720p game.
  12. I just placed an order 2 minutes ago.
  13. For 28k, he should replace the rusted chain guide bolts, then maybe it would be worth it. lol. Honestly though, building it from the ground up with all new parts would be in the neigborhood of 16-18k, polish work included. Not sure where he gets 28k, unless the guy payed a stealership to do all the work.
  14. You know Turbo, I commend you on your efforts, though I think it's always been your arrogance that has really cost you any respect. But really what you should of done is save the arrogance when you had something to back it up with. As I see it, you may be soon running the very monoblock engine you despise before it's all said and done. Man that would have to hurt!
  15. I expect as soon as I hit the "pay" button, for my doorbell to ring. J/K. Most of us have the time to ship something within a day or two, but that's not everyone. I think we have just been spoiled by some of the fast shippers on here, which is good, but don't think we should expect it "all" the time. Especially with guys that are away from home for extended periods of time.
  16. Sunoco purple 110, Mobil1 2T at 40:1.
  17. PS3 all the way. The market is being flooded with tons of new games as I type. PS3 games are on blu-ray discs so the size capability far exceeds that of x-box 360's standard dvd. Built in wi-fi and playstation network is free vs x-box live yearly due's and 99.00 for a wifi adapter. Also the PS3's variety of card slots for transfer of music, pics, games, video's etc. You can also upgrade the PS3's hard drive to 250g since it uses a 2.5'' standard laptop drive and not a console specefic unit. The PS3 is hands down the technology leader of the two.
  18. I guess there are instances of course. Reminds me of these high effeciency fluorescent bulbs that have become real popular. They are "suppose" to last longer than standard bulbs and I had 2 burn out, they lasted less than 2 months.
  19. LCD's have a greater lifespan than CRT, not my opinion, it's pretty much a technology standard. On our telemetry unit in the hospital I work at the LCD's have all outlasted the CRT's. These units run 24/7 and our standard crt's lasted about 3 yrs. Our 1st LCD's are still going, 7yrs and counting, and we continue to replace the CRT's as they go.
  20. It's funny you mention that, here's what Sony's website has to say on that subject. "Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) televisions have been with us for 75 years, and in that time, the technology has developed to such an extent that until recently, it was impossible to compare the best LCD TV with the best CRT. But things have moved on. Today's LCD TVs are comparable with the best CRT technology available, with high brightness and contrast, natural colour and highly detailed pictures." They should know, they arguably made the best built and rated CRT's on the market. Like I said, the changes I have seen just in the last 2 years from my 1st LCD to my 08 model is night and day. I'm sure in the next 2 years CRT's will be the cassette tape of the music world.
  21. "the new 360s you dont have to get the external.. my buddy has one and we popped the hd dvd right into the player it self..." That's good, it's about time they stepped up to the plate. They need to offer wifi built in as well.
  22. I promise, you play Resistance Fall of Man, and those games will be just a good memory. Though Halo 3 is coming out soon and may have to dust off the 360 for that. Honestly though, I've played Resistance for 9 months now and really have no desire to play anything else, my boys are the same way and my oldest has 8 games for his 360, he plays none of them. Also, playstation network is totally free and you can do anything on it that you can on x-box live. One thing I don't understand is how x-box is maintaining with just using just dual layered dvd's for their games. They have to make the jump to hd-dvd or blu-ray soon to have the capacity they will need to keep up with sony. It's already showing in lack of size and detail in their games in camparison.
  23. That's the only thing that's half legit. They probably charged a couple hundred for install. Though there are some 800 dollar swingers out there.
  24. They must be set up wrong. A 4mil with a 2:1 or 28mm carbs, midrange pipe set-up and some timing advance should be better on the technical stuff than a stock stroke could ever achieve. But don't talk to people, go ride one and feel the difference, I think you will be surprised at how much more low end they have for the tight stuff.
