my buddies bike was just rebuilt, all new crank, top end, clutches, you name it. sealed up the cases, ready to go ridin. however, had a problem with the wiring, and for the hell of it, we switched pipes on it, when we did oil just flew out of the pipe. there was a lot of oil sitting in there. can anyone tell me why? i was thinking maybe because he kept trying to kick it over when it wasnt starting and just flooded the cylinders. what do you think?

I have low hours on my one stock banshee. When im riding really hard and "on it" , the bike is really smoking. The way i caught this was because i switched bikes with a buddy for a few minutes and let him go on it. When he cracked it down man the smoke was everywhere. The plugs are not fouled out, the carbs are clean, i cant think of any other reason other than a top end. And i dont see how that could be, because there's only 50 hours at MOST on this thing, ridden very carefully. Really wondering about this. Running it at 32:1 yamalube, bike is completely stock other than a kn air filter, help me out if you can.

Does it really matter which amsoil one you use? I see there's a couple different kinds, what would you go with? You mentioned the 100:1 formula, around what price is that at? I noticed down at the shop they had 32 ounce bottles of amsoil for 5.25 so its really hard to pass up!
-
Hey guys i know a lot of you run this amsoil in your bike, and I'd like to find out why. When i bought my banshee the guy ran amsoil 50:1 in it, i thought that was pretty dang lean but i noticed a lot of you are running 80:1. Im very concerned about that, but a lot of people are saying amsoil is probably the best oil to be running. A local dealer finally got it in, so im able to buy it now, i was wondering all about it. Im running 32:1 yamalube right now, so to move up to 50:1 or 80:1 kinda makes me wonder. What do you think?

Hey guys, im just wondering, when your riding your banshee and you take a pit stop, do you ever smell antifreeze real strongly? I tell you what since i had my banshee from day one, when i stop from riding, i get that carmelly antifreeze smell for a few seconds or so. No leaks that i can see, and its not burning out of the pipe because the smell is the similar "hot antifreeze" smell. Anyone else have this? I really hope its not overheating, i seriously doubt that it is, im just wondering because its starting to annoy me!

No spark, some spark, what the?
deathmetal5150 replied to deathmetal5150's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Did some testing today and it turns out to be the flywheel. Apparently when he took it off, he used the jaw pullers instead of the regular puller, and he must have warped the flywheel. Put the stator closer and now kicks and starts up however he's worried about the flywheel. To me when it was spinning it didnt look like it was warped but someone said if it is to any extent it could damage the crank. Ive never heard that before, but what do you guys think? -
Hey guys, just got back from a friend of mines house and the banshee rebuild came to a hault. We did a full rebuild with a new crank, top end, and clutch system. We got everything back together, and when he goes to kick it over, no spark. Ok fine, start checking out the wiring all looks good. We tried bump starting it, and you know what? it works. The bike will run fine once bump started, but once it shuts off, no spark whatsoever. The bike was fine before the rebuild as far as electronics (that we're aware of) but need to figure out what else it is. Im thinking a weak cdi box but not quite sure, he's spent over 500 on getting this back to where its runnable, i dont think he can go much more.

How can you loosen up the stock thumb throttle ?
deathmetal5150 replied to xt45's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
The first day i had my banshee, TORS was removed and the spring was removed, forget that stiff throttle. Everyone else in my riding crew is too lazy to remove there system, so they take a 10 minute time out every couple of laps because they're cramped up, forget that! -
Thanks for the response. If the bike was running lean, it wouldnt be making smoke at all would it? I figured if its too rich it'll smoke a lot, if lean, no smoke at all however this is my first 2 stroke so learning as i go with the tricks to it. I will check the plugs on it, but the last time i did the plug was real clean and almost like a dark gray, but i only ran the new plugs for a few minutes to check so may not have even had time to turn but ill certainly check. The bike just runs so nice i was kinda taken back at the difference but hopefully its not a top end necessity. Some folks say that they tend to run harder on top when they're getting due for a top end, however im not so sure about that myself but i learn quick so once i get this down, it'll be good.

Before I went out riding today, i took off the K&N filter and put some k&n oil filter cleaner on it, cleaned out the airbox, all appeared pretty good. Let it sit for about 15 minutes before putting it back in. Anyways after doing that, I fired it up, and noticed that it was smoking a good bit more than usual. Interesting... So i go out riding and for some reason, there's a heck of a lot more power going on today than usual. The power overall is just a lot more strong, and it seems to be revving up quicker as well. In my opinion, by just spraying on some filter oil and cleaning out the airbox couldnt do this, but if you think otherwise let me know. Now, as i was messing around with my buddies on trails and sand dunes, my buddy said that the bike was smoking out of both pipes a good bit, and this was about an hour into riding. Thats never happened before, im wondering what that could be? when i got off of it and revved it up a little bit watching the pipes, they did smoke just a touch that i could see but nothing serious, but he said when i was climbing up some hills and getting on it that it was, so lets take a look into this. Mixing at 32:1, yamalube. Bike has low hours on it, all stock motor wise. I rode it a few days ago and all was perfect however the weather has changed 30 degree's colder here today, but not sure if that'd make any difference with this. Just hoping its not the rings, its way too early for those to be going out. I'd say it has no more than 45 hours on it. I sure was loving the power on it Anyways let me know what you think.

Whats normal compression on stock headed Banshee?
deathmetal5150 replied to Audiowizard's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Should be at 120psi. Everyone says under 100, time for a new top end! -
The pipes are FMF fatty golds, so you think its possible they're packed up on that side? If its not that nor the crank seal what else could it be? I was thinking also maybe a slight out of adjustment carb on that side, but again, ill leave it up to the experts here, im just learning the tricks to the banshee's by the way, the same bike has been sitting for quite a while, 2 months or so but even when it was out before, the pipe smoked a lot more on that side as well. You can rub your finger on the end of the pipe and get a good amount of soot/oil/etc. Anyways let me know what you think

Hey guys got a question for a buddy of mine. His banshee runs great, but on the left pipe it smokes a good bit more than the right, also when done riding i checked on his pipe and at the very end there's a little bit of oil sitting there. First thing that came to mind was maybe a crank seal, but im not sure. Bike runs great, both pipes are hot, a rather new top end on it, etc. Im wondering what else it could be, and how serious this is. Its just enough on the end of the pipe to notice, let me know what you think!
-
Excellent thanks a lot, took care of it today and in this 90 degree weather it ran like a champ. Just love it!

Hey guys, i need to add some coolant to my banshee, i wanted to ask you first and get an opinion. I imagine that the coolant in there is stock from the factory however im not sure. Is it ok to add a different brand of antifreeze to it? What would you put in there? Its sitting right at the "low" mark right now so just need some for riding tomorrow, should i just put water in there, or ? let me know what you think, im a nubee at antifreeze and hate touching it but gotta do it for the maintanence

Hey guys, got a quick question for you. Have an all stock banshee, its mint, but having a slight problem possibly. I noticed when i stopped riding that the overflow hoses drip just a small amount, every so often. Im wondering what it could be, shouldnt be dirty carbs because its not even been out in the mud or anything. The bike was sitting a few months before i bought it, but i put fresh gas in there and such. Anyways, its just coming out when the fuel is on obviously, im wondering if it truly does need cleaned or what? Im a beginner when it comes to wrenching on carbs. Also, on the low end it does a slight stutter when im going, not a smooth transition of power until it gets close to the powerband. The jets were bumped up slightly due to only using it in the cold weather, other than that, its not been messed with. I was thinking of just throwing some seafoam in the gas tank and seeing if that helps, but let me know what you think. I live about an hour northwest of pittsburgh. Any help is appreciated!

How Reliable Has Your Banshee Been To You?
deathmetal5150 replied to deathmetal5150's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Hey guys thanks so much for the warm welcome and responses. My banshee is pretty much all stock except a k&n air filter, aftermarket locknut on the axle, rims, etc, basically cosmetics, the motor is pure stock and i intend to leave it that way. As far as maintanence, im wondering if i should drop the filter and go with a pro flow since im in an area with a lot of quarries. Other than that, i keep the bike as clean as the showroom floor banshee's, run 32:1 yamalube, and use pj1 in the tranny. I cant get over how smooth this bike shifts and runs, its just flat out awesome. It shifts better than any of the hondas ive had and thats tough to beat! I've been a 4 stroke guy all my life but i tell you what, after having this bike its going to be hard to even consider another 4 stroke, thats for sure. Just adore this bike and will do whatever it takes to make it run great. Ive never taken off a carb before, but I am extremely eager to learn! I heard of a product called seafoam and its supposed to clean out the carbs and basically the whole motor especially if its been sitting around for a while, I was a little bit concerned about that because ive never heard of folks using it on bikes but a couple people have said its a great product to use once a year. This bike is a 98 and has under 25 hours on it, showroom condition, i plan on keeping it that way! -
So how reliable has your banshee been to you? Im a relatively new owner to a banshee, and just love the bike! However, i have been reading the forums and it has proposed some questions. It seems 9 out of 10 problems are carb related, I can deal with handling that, but how about the motor itself? I see a lot of folks are putting bottom ends on it, what happened? I understand that a top end rebuild is relatively normal procedure, and thats fine, but how about the other parts on the banshee in the motor, has it been reliable to you? Im feeling a little bit anxious after reading so many posts on this, just thought I'd ask. When I ride the bike, I ride it in the powerband, I dont putz around on it, so is that dooming me for problems? I dont jump with it or anything like that, just run the rpm's a good bit but i thought that is what its for, anyways let me know how hard you run yours and if im doomed to having trouble. I always do maintanence on bikes and take good care of it in that aspect, more concerned about the rest of the reliability like transmissions and cranks and all that stuff.

Hey guys got a couple questions for ya. New banshee owner here, very proud of it, just love the bike. Ive went from riding 4 strokes all my life to this, and never wanna look back! Anyways, the bike i just got is a 98 banshee, and it looks like the day it came off the showroom floor. Guy says he has about 25 hours on it. All stock other than some cosmetics. I've taken it out a few times now, and just wanted to get some things answered to help ease my mind. At first, had a little bit of trouble starting it, could possibly be that the bike has been sitting for many months now. It idles very, very low so i may need to turn it up. For some reason it takes a good 6 kicks to get it going. I couldnt figure out why it was doing this, but when i held the throttle wide open, wham, started right up. Today i didnt necessarily need to do that, just a slight tap on the throttle and there we go. Anyways, just wondering if you guys had this happen as well. Jets are bumped up just a little bit because it was mostly run in cold weather. When i FIRST took out the bike, there was very little power going on with it. Changed the plugs, and totally different bike, i keep an eye on the plugs, its set perfectly, not too rich nor too lean, just right. Anyways, when starting out on the low end, it will do somewhat of a stutter, then once taken up to a certain rev, it will completely smooth out. I just wanted to see if having it at low RPM would cause it to have that effect, the effect is more so like being choked up a good bit, then wham kicks right in smoothens out and goes like hell. Everything checks out super clean. I didnt gap those plugs, however, im not sure if that would make such a difference? Maybe that small stutter on low rpms is very normal for a banshee, my first one, so take it easy on me I was going to do a compression check, but not exactly sure how to go about that. Where should i be at on psi with an all stock motor? I presume everything to be fine, but its always good to check just in case. I run 32:1 yamalube, works great. Let me know what you think and any help is appreciated!

Why didn't Yamaha add oil injection systems
deathmetal5150 replied to xt45's topic in General Banshee Discussion
They have a tendency to clog up, thus, you'd have a serious problem on your hands. Do it yourself, it may take a few more minutes, but at least you know its properly mixed and ready to go. -
Which is the quietest pipe you can get?
