from the sounds of things, its got a stock head on it. If not, pull the head off and look at the domes. THat or run a compression test. Not real sure on what numbers you have to have, but i'm pretty sure i saw them on the noss machine website. If you don't have high compression, you don't need avgas. I don't know that i'd run it in anything i have though. If it needs avgas, i'd switch over to a race gas/pump gas mix or straight race gas.

why don't you just have them powdercoated? Can't be much more expensive. the shocks come apart pretty easy.

I got the black chit off the outside of the wheels for the most part. They could easily be polished, or repainted. not bent, no deep scratches etc. The second pic is the back half of the wheels with the black on them.
