  1. Bought it used and abused, ran it for under 10 hours over a year, $1500 in shop labor and it doesn't work, new stator... I've decided to get rid of the damn thing and buy a YFZ450. How should I sell it? It doesn't currently run (apart in my garage) Its likely i could put it together and get it RUNNING, not well but it'd turn over. Should i put it back together and hope it runs and sell it, put it back together and sell it as a work quad, or part it out?
  2. Yeah so my radiator cap is shot, it spews out all my coolant when riding. The stealer wants $40 for a new one. Isn't there a better way?
  3. So if I run it a little bit with one cyl down, even if it is running rich, it will hurt the quad? I just need to replace the domes to fix it anyway... EDIT: Found These, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2484592469 Will these work on the (EDIT: 420) kit? (bored sleeves and longrods) Shows you what bullshit I've been fed from the shops, they say it's a 440, its the 420. Fuckers.
  4. What do you guys think a banshee would do off the floor? Some idiot is trying to start shit with his civic...I just need to know if i should give him the starter
  5. A bit of a continue from my earlier post, but a different issue now.. Hopefully the stator and plate will be in tomorrow. However, I have not yet fixed the compression problems. 1. Is it going to hurt it if i run it with one cyl down in compression? 2. Will the jetting change if I fix the compression issues later? 3. SHOULD I jet it while compression is down, for riding purposes? 4. Where do i get jets? Oh i forgot, brief overview, quad has 30psi low on one side, new pistons, stator fried and ran rich.
  6. Isn't there something you can do to keep them off your ass? Registration?
  7. Yeah so a local 1/4mi track runs snowmobiles and quads and the like, and was wondering if anyone else had run a 1/4mi? Wondering what kind of times you pulled and if there is anything wierd to know about it.
  8. Thats exactly what was done, jugs are fine because only 1 cyl is down on compression, but all studs were heli-coiled
  9. Like I said its a long story...i'll shorten it best as possible Got quad- Ran Rich Took to shop #1 - said head was bad (they may ahve been right after all) Shop #1 puts STOCK head on b&s motor... = Starts burning and leaking coolant out the studs, studs stripped Shop #2 retaps studs, stock head = stripped again Shop #3 retaps studs, replaces o-rings, pistons, rings, hones cylinder walls Ran like at first, still rich, stopped starting Shop #3 Jets carb, still won't start Shop #3 sees bad stator, wants $500 for stator + Labor (f*ck that) Shop #4 Does compression check, I take it out frustrated because they want an $800 DEPOSIT for labor At my house, apart. Today I got the gas tank and skid plates off and cleaned them out. If truly the plug caps should have inf resistance, they may still be good. I'll order the stator tomorrow (waited for cap verdict) I know the top and bottom of head. It doesn't, I repeat, IT DOESN"T HAVE O-RINGS between the domes and cylinders. I ordered the complete ring set from trinity and it came exaclty as you said, minus the dome/cylinder rings When i get it off i'll show you a pic...There is no dip or decrease in the head for an O-ring, there is just a little metal ring that fits JUST inside the cylinder, and it is this that I assume is bad.
  10. I don't remember right now, but as soon as I pull the head (maybe today?) I'll check what they are and get pictures of the assembly for you
  11. Nope... Check out the Trinity Stage IV head...trinityracing.com No o-rings between cylinders and head Ordering the ignition stuff today Yes, i beleive the compression is around the 150-160 mark in the good cylinder (i didn't do the compression check myself, it was done by the shop. HE said that the bad cylinder still has more compression than stock, so that wouldn't stop it from running, just cause poor performance) ...What about leaking into the tranny oil? I never said anything about that... How can i do a leakdown test?
  12. O-rings = brand new, as well that would LEAK coolant, but this has lost compression (no o-ring in between head and cylinders, just inside the head) UPDATE: Got it out of the (hopefully) last shop it'll ever see today. Took it home and began testing components. First tested the stator, it was all open, as expected. Then took the coil off and tested the harness side, it was good, then the plug side, it was good. Tested the plug caps and they seem to be bad, as the meter pegged infinite ohms. Seems odd that BOTH caps would be dead. Anyone have a good place for good caps? Checked the kill switch, it was good, checked the key switch, it was good. I assume the caps and stator are the source of my spark woes, and will be ordering the stator assymbly from Ricky Stator tomorrow. Once I have spark I beleive it will run (the bad cylinder STILL has more compression than a stock banshee) After that I will replace the domes and jet it...should take some time
  13. The pistons and rings were replaced less than an hours worth of riding ago The cylinders were also bored because they were scored That is why i assume the domes, as well it doesn't have a headgasket(it is a metal ring seal, i believe this may be chipped/bent/scored), and IS burning coolant. Thanks for the stator link, you saved me a LOAD of money I'll see if they have the domes i need on e-bay
  14. About a year ago I bought my dream quad...a 97 banshee in all the right colors with plenty of mods. It is a long story i don't feel like telling but basicly it has been in and out of 4 shops for the last year, and has under 2 hours of me riding it Just lately have we found the problem, the stator is fried and one cylinder has dropped 30 PSI compression. Rather than have a shop fix it i've decided to tackle this myself (saves me well over $800 in labor) The mod list is in my profile, and i'm led to beleive that the trinity head dome is the source of my compression woes (brand new pistons and rings). If this checks out, I'll be replacing the following... Trinity Head dome ($???) Stator ($300) Coil ($30) Wires ($20 each) Now this wounds more like a story than a question but i'd like all your inputs on this, and if you have any ideas on where the compression could be lost, if i should replace anything else, anything like that. Thanks in advance
  15. My banshee's clutch also grabs when fully in... The other day I almost ran over my neighbor cuz the damn thing took off with the clutch in I also can't start it in anything but Neutral It isn't aftermarket either
