  1. 17?? ooh ok i gues whats on the motor is just a casting number or something. that sucks i stripped the paint off that whole rail and i see nothing. not even weld or grind marks. i was looking for the sticker thats usually on quads but didnt find that either. well if this thing has no number at all can i have DMV issue a new one? or is that out of the question?
  2. i thinnk i can read the numbers on my motor but still havent found them on the frame. the frame numbers should be by the foot shifter on the side of the frame right? on the motor i think i see 2 digits, a letter, then 6 more digits. does that sound right?? thanks in advance
  3. thanks for the advice guys. ive already got money besides what i got it for tied up into it, so im still trying to decide what to do. i may just get another frame. thanks for posting that link DirtRider. after alot of cleaning and messing around i think i can see the numbers. how amny numbers should there be? i think i see 2 digits, a letter, then 6 more digits. does that sound right??
  4. about 2 weeks ago i traded a guy a 83 honda atc 250r, a rifle, and $400 cash. i rode it around a few times and everything seamed fine. i took it out last weekend and it was running fine for a while. started only firing on one cylinder and ended up dying totally by the end of the day. took it home put plugs in it and it wouldnt start. i saw some wiring that didnt look right with the TORS that was removed so i disconnected it at the black box. it started up but wouldnt idle good. i ripped it up and down the street a few times and as i was pulling into the driveway i pulled in the clutch to coast over a bump when i let it out the motor bogged out and i heard a pop then it died and hasnt started since. it was recommended to take apart the crabs and clean them good, which i did. still nothing.i think im getting gas as the plugs are wet when i pull them. im getting blue spark. i sprayed a little gas in the cylinders and it ll start for a sec but then die out. i did a compression check and on one cylinder it was 65 the other 75 so im thinkin top end. so i figure while its down i ll get the paperwokr started and went to the DMV to get the correct forms. i go to fill them out and i look for the VIN number and there isnt one on the frame and the one on the motor was partially gone and has some marks on it liek someone took a punch to it. so now ive got a quad that probrobly needs a top end and i cant register because it may be hot. so i called the guy and bitched him out and he was like " well it was as is and it ran when you picked it up, and i told you i didnt have the papers for it." which he did say but said i could go to DMV and reapply for them. i called him today about trading back and he said hed trade the 3 wheeler and the gun back but not the cash because now he ll have to fix it. if it was the old days id just go whoop some but and take the stuff back or show up with cops. i could get another frame with a title but thats more money. what would you guys do? thanks in advance.
  5. does it have a valid serial number and title? i may be interested if so.
  6. yup i held it WOT and kicked it about 6-8 times just to make sure it was reading full and did it 2 times each cylinder. well at least with a coupel hundred bucks i ll be back up and running motor wise. pipes will be more though. thanks for the help
  7. im glad i saw your post i was about to ask the same thing. i will be rebuilding my top end in the next few weeks and am going to upgrade the exhaust too, but not sure of which does what. i run mostly on trails in woods so could benifit from some lower end but i run wide open sometimes too as the track close to me has some big straights. im looking forward to reading what people suggest as well.
  8. my buddys run either razors or holeshots, ive got a set of dirt devils on my banshee but they suck on grass so they ll get put away for spring or fall mud. i ll be getting a set of razors as well for general trail duty.
  9. well i spent 4 hours going through everything from the reeds back and dissassembling them, cleaning them with compressed air, every little part. put it all back together and nothin. i ve got strong spark, gas, hmm check compression. as your sitting on the bike the right cylinder had a whoping 65 lbs of pressure and the left had an astonishing 75 lbs of pressure. im taking it over to a friend of a friend who is a total banshee head, have him verify my findings and then start savin for parts for a total top end rebuild. its a 2002 and from what ive seen here every 2-3 years for a rebuild is common and its been about that. i dont think any of the previous owners have been inside except to clean the carbs. parts for .020-.040 will probrobly be what? $200 or so? and cylinder work another $150? is that about right? just tryin to figure out hom much i need, and may as well ditch the stock exhaust while im doin all this, along with some reeds, spacers, jets, etc etc. any suggestions for exhaust? what seams to work the best on Banshees? thanks for the help guys.
  10. aaah thanks for the help. i will pull them off tomorrow and TOTALLY go through them and clean them. the guy i got this bike from said he had the carbs off once in the past 8 months or so to clean them out. i was kinda thinkin something was hanging up somewhere thus the gas leaking. thanks for the help and i ll post back tomorrow when i get them cleaned out.
  11. ok heres the situation. went riding over the weekend and shee ran good for most the day. about half way through the day it seamed one side of the motor was cutting out. by the end of the dayu i had alot of cutting out and hesitation. i limped it almost home before it died in some shallow mud. got it home and did some looking. one side of the plusgs was fouled so i poped 2 new plugs in. upon further inspection i saw someone removed the TOR and had some wires tied up. i ran a search and have disconnected the whole system at the little black box. started up and ran ok. its running a bit low and rough for idle. i removed the linkage for the parking brake and i cut down the mount on the handle bar. there was that little safety switch that wont let the motor rev unless its pushed in. it attaches into the side of the mount where the park beake is. i chopped that and it still ran fine so i know its not that. i took it for a ride around the yard and as i was pulling into the garage i ran over the bump into it and the carbs sounded like they loaded right up quick and it died. it hasnt run since. ive tried kicking it over dozens of times but nothing. the carbs were leaking some gas, so i took out the plugs and took off the air filter and let it set for an hour or so to dry out incase of flooding. i reassembled it all and still nothing. t is still leaking gas from the overflow tubes on the carbs. i pulled the needles out of the tops and looked down in for dirt or something but saw nothing. blew them out with compressed air and reassembled. tryed again and still nothing. the outer edges of the plugs are a little wet but the electrodes were dry. im stumped. do the carbs need to be taken off and gone through? is something in the electrical loose? thanks in advance for the help
