  1. My 01 Banshee broke a ring and has wrecked the piston and barrel. Can anyone help with advice on whether to resleeve and put original size Yamaha pistons in, or rebore and put aftermarket larger pistons in? (At present it has 64.5mm pistons, which are largest Yamaha pistons) Also the Dealer has recomended that I replace the crank, as they feel it is worth doing it now. Is this correct and that they can't measure or chech the crank to see how good/bad it is? Someone also mentioned one can rebuild the crank, instead of a complete new one? What are the advantages/disadvantages of this? Does anyone know what a complete new Banshee engine costs in the US? This job, to do top and bottom end in South Africa is going to cost about US$1500. Is this much less than a new engine? I will really appreciate any help Percy-Zn
  2. Hi Guys, thanks for the replies. The shop took the top end off for me and it's a mess inside. A ring has broken! (Why?) and all chaos in there. The shop are saying I must have a new top end and also advise I do the bottom end at the same time, or the new top end may put more pressure on the slightly worn bottom end and break the whole lot again. Do you guys I agree I need to do all this? The piston is already max oversize, so barrels need to be resleeved as well. All in all very costly repair.... Appreciate any advice
  3. My 01 Banshee used to always start 1st or 2nd kick and still does most times, but recently has been battling to start 1 out of 3 times, mainly when warm. It has new plugs and filter is clean. What else should I check for? (When it is doing this it is just dead when I kick it, and then after about 30 kicks it will splurt a bit and then fire up. Normally splutters a bit on start up then 100%.) Other times I just starts 1st kick?? Appreciate any help Percy-Zn
  4. yea clean it out, you sure that new filter is seating properly, making a perfect seal? and you put oil on the filter right? i'd pull the carbs off and clean em, then clean the filter, put oil on it give her a go again and see what happens Hi, Yeah I also thought about checking the seating is 100%. The foam there is not that great, so I must make sure it is well greased. I did oil the filter well and have done so again after the ride. I will clean the carbs up and the intake and then give it another go. Thanks again
  5. Hi, Put the Dura Blue Filter on on Saturday. The shee feels more responsive. (The one that fits on the stock cage). Had a huge ride yesterday, very very dusty. When I took the filter off to clean it, there is a small, small amount of dust in the boot leading to the carbs. The slides are slightly black. I am sure I remember them being silver last time I cleaned the filter. Also with the stock filter, I am sure I remember the boot being absolutely free of dust. Should there be absolutly no dirt in the boot, leading to the carbs, or does some get in sometime. Do I need to clean this out as well and with what? Should the slides in the carbs that I can see from the filter be silver, or are they usually blackened and a bit dirty? Cheers,
  6. Thanx for all the info. I repacked the silencer, put new springs and re did all the seals this weekend. Exhaust is not leaking at all now and the shee feels much better. (Maybe it is just my imagination after all the work!) Thanks
  7. On the packing material package, it says it must be wrapped tightly? Can anyone comfirm if it must be tight or loose?
  8. thanx for the info guys.
  9. Hi Anyone use twin air filter on the Banshee? I have an 01 and want to add the twin air, to replace the stock filter. Ride in a lot of dust, sand and some water, so will keep the lid on. I beleive it fits into the stock box? Appreciate any tips or advise Cheers,
  10. Hi, From memory on other bikes, the exhaust is held onto the head with two bolts. On my Banshee it just seems to be held on with the springs (2 per side). When the silencers are off, if I wiggle the main part of the pipe, it seems to be able to pull away from the head quite easy (one side seems easier that the other side) Does not pull completely away, just sort of opens up on one side, if you wiggle the pipe that way. Any advice? or is this OK? Do the springs need replacing from time to time? The bike is an 01, I have had it 6 weeks. Cheers,
  11. Yes, it puls easy. Just slides out the pipes. When I put it back in, I put a thin pipe in the mesh core, and used this to line up the mesh core with the exhaust pipes. Pulled the thin pipe out when I was finished. Also sealed where the joins are with high heat silicone. Putting the pipes back on this weekend, so will see how much diff it has made. The old packing was really messed, so am hoping it will be much better
  12. "Hey, I took off my silencer caps this weekend (tail pipe), and didnt see any packing material. I did see some sort of device about 6" down the tube. Am I supposed to remove that? Is that where I repack my silencers?" Hey Dogboytoy, Yeah, there should be packing material around the mesh core, that joins the pipe to the end core, in the aluminium silencer end. You can buy new material at any bike shop Cheers,
  13. Hi, I am repacking my silencers on my 01 Banshee, which I have had for a month. They are DG pipes, which were put on by the previous owner. When I opened the silencers, I see the core (perforated) that runs in the silencer is not in very good condition. On one pipe the core is actually broken and has been sort of held together by the silencer packing material. Do i need to get new cores, or can I clean up the existing ones, and make sure they are straight and no holes are blocked up, repack them and rebuild the silencer? Must the core join tightly onto the pipe coming into the silencer and then also tightly into the pipe leading out the back of the silencer? Thanx for any help Bruce
  14. We ride mostly sandy trails, with some rocks here and there and river sand + mud. (Botswana) I am running the Raz2's at 3 PSI at the rear and running fronts at about 4 to 5 psi. Works well.
  15. thanx 4 the info guys. Will let you know what I get sorted out Cheers
  16. Hi, I have removed the parking brake on my 01 Banshee and now the rubber cover that covers the clutch handle has spaces where the parking brake used to go. Anyone know what part #/ or model clutch cover can be used to replace this rubber boot, to just cover the clutch handle, without any unused holes. Thanks, Percy
  17. Hi, Anyone ever changed the color of the bulbs in the front lights? I reckon blue lights, like some of the superbikes have would look neat? Anyone got any pics of links of a neat installation of rear lights and a number board, I would appreciate it. Cheers, Percy-Zn (Botswana)
  18. Hi Wallrat. I see you have the meat thermometer mod. How easy was it to do? Do you have any links/posts already describing the mod? Cheers, (Thanks for the info on the rear wheel removal)
  19. Hi, My left rear wheel is not running true. I think it is either bent axle or buckled rim. Not bad, but want to get it sorted. If I switch the wheels to the other side, and it changes, then I assume the rim is buckled, if it is still out on the left, then it must the axle? WHen removing the rear wheels, can I just remove the wheel (4 nuts) or must I remove the hub (large nut, with cotter pin)? Cheers, Percy
  20. Hi. Any of you guys got some pics/links of some good installations of a rear number board, with the rear race lights (we have to use one small oval yellow one here in Botswana) built into the number board, and then space for the race number below the light? Appreciate any help Cheers, Percy
  21. Thanx for the info. Will get it sorted tonight. Cheers
  22. Thanks for the help. Can you expand a bit on the toe in? Cheers,
  23. Hi guys, When I am on the tar, I notice my bars point slightly to the right when the wheels are straight. Is this easy to fix? (Don't notice it on the dirt, as I am spending so much time sideways!!) Anyone ever changed the color of the globes in the front lights? I notice some superbikes have blue or yellow head lights. I reckon this will look kewl on the Banshee? Cheers,
  24. Hi, I have heard the bolt holding the rear swingarm needs to be well maintained, or it costs big bucks to fix/replace. Does it just need to be regularly greased, or do I need to do more than that? Thanks for any help, Percy-Zn
  25. Thanks for the help, Cheers, Bruce
