Yea that is a pic of the bike after I purchased the pipes and silencers for it. It came with stock pipes. Currently I have it jetted at 300 mains. The bike runs alright but im not sure if it can be running better with bigger mains. If the bike ran 270s with stock pipes and filter I figure I should be up around 370 with my pipes and no airbox lid. But that sounds crazy.

Thanks I'll have to check out my steering stem. The welds on all those allen bolts are broken what do you suggest?

I took apart my carbs today on my 2001 banshee that I just recently picked up used.. Anyway I noticed that it had 270 main jets in it with stock pipes, air filter, and air box. I found that a little odd. The only mod I could see was ported carbs. I also noticed that the needles had a washer on the top of the e-clip. Do stock needles come with a washer?

If you are talking about my bike the silencers do no stick out the back any further than stock. I used the same mounting point that all the aftermarket silencers use. Right to the frame where the grab bar bolts onto.
-
I will try screwing them on at exactly the same time. I had the wheel perfect but the tie rod ends were only threaded into the tie rod itself about one or 2 threads. I also noticed two allen head bolts that hold the mount that the lower tie rod end is connected to. I was able to loosen then by hand Are these bolts supposed to be removable because it seemed as though someone tried to weld them in place.
-
Thats a good thought I will check that when I get home. I will compare it to the tie rod I took off. I doubt it was an extended one though because I got it at a yamaha dealer.

I installed a new tie rod and and tie rod end today on my shee because the previous owner bent them. My problem is that the tie rods dont seem to have enough adjustment. When they are adjusted all the way out the tire still isnt straight. It is slightly turned toward the outside even when the bars are straight. Is there any special way to adjust the tie rods? Do I have to do both sides in unison to get proper adjustment?

You are correct I bought them as a pair off ebay for only $100. I had always planned on replacing the silencers with regular t5s at some point, but for $100 I just couldnt pass it up. I definetly think the t5s alone were worth the $100.
-
I have toomey t5 pipes with fmf silencers. They fit fine with no problems whatsoever. You can kind of see them below. If u want I can take more pics.

Are you running the mods in your sig with stock jetting? I hope not because I am sure that your motor will be done for soon. I would probaly start out around 280 main jet and go up from there.

I ran them that way, (the plastic one screwed on and sealed with silicone) until I started making them. Really, the main advantage of the metal one is that it won't bow and cause a leak and the filter is more secure because of the lip on the flange. The hole is matched to the airbox hole on the billet one. I never had any trouble with the inexpensive way.
An honest answer from someone who sells the aftermarket flange. That is great of you dlnoss.
I was thinking the same exact thing. That is one of the reasons why I will probaly be buying a Noss Machine cool head.

I am goin riding this weekend and I want to make sure it is secure. My intake system is already on order. I just got new pipes and it runs horribly unless I remove the airbox lid.
-
What is the difference between the air filter adapter pictured here:
And the stock one besides the fact that the one pictured is metal. Can't I just drill two holes in the stock filter adapter to achieve the same effect? Would I remove the foam from the back of the stock filter adapter or just leave it on there? Eventually I am going with the toomey 2:1 intake system but for now I just want to run without the lid without worrying about my engine sucking in dust.
-
Sounds like a pretty good deal. I just got used toomey t5s with fmf silencers for $100 shipped. No dents or anything in them. Keep an eye on ebay they got some great deals on there.
-
I had to slap a pair of vice grips on mine. Took about 10 mins but they finally came out. After I got them out I replaced them with stainless allen head bolt.
-
Yea I fixed the carb leak on that side, bought new plugs then did another 1-6 wot run. Plugs were both brown this time But it still didnt feel like it was running right so I removed the airbox lid and now it runs like a bat outta hell.
-
I just removed the airbox lid completely just to see what would happen. All I can say is damn what a difference! I could not keep the front end down. A little 2 stroke oil was coming out my pipes before I removed the lid so this lead me to believe I was running too rich.
My bike runs perfect now, I just want to make sure that I am not running too lean now. What do you guys think? I have a 290 main jet with the following mods: airbox lid removed, toomey t5s and fmf silencers, ported carbs and thats it.
-
My case wouldnt come apart either and I just tapped the top of it with a rubber mallet and it came right apart.
-
I had stock pipes on before. Granted I have not ridden it much since the pipes were put on and my tires are really bald and worn out. Maybe I am just spinning the tires too much and not hooking up.
-
Yea the bike is running alright. I was just trying to determine if my carbs were stock or not. I have come to the conclusion that they are stock ported carbs. I did not notice a huge difference in performance after the pipes were put on. I think that maybe I was expecting too much from them. Or maybe it is because my intake sysytem is still basically stock.
-
If the carbs were aftermarket they would flow more fuel correct? With the 290 jet size and my mods it would bog really bad right (if the carbs weren't stock)?
-
I was testing it with the 290 mains. I still dont get why it had 270 mains when I pulled the carbs. I am thinking maybe it had aftermarket pipes on it before it was sold to me and then the pipes were removed and the carbs were never rejetted.
The only mods that I know of are ported carbs, removed snorkel, and toomey t5s with fmf silencers. Quite possibly aftermarket carbs but I'm not sure.
-
I just did a wot 1-6 gear run. And then pulled the plugs and rode home on my old ones. One plug is a chocolate brown throughout the entire white procelain part. The other plug is white throughout the whole porcelain part. My carb tob on that carb was a little bit loose so hopefully thats all it was.
-
I just installed some toomey t5s and fmf silencers. When I had the carbs apart I noticed they were ported and that my main jet was already 270. The only mods the bike had was the air snorkle was removed. I bought this bike used and I am not sure what jet size to put in for the toomeys because I am not certain the carbs are stock. I put in 290s for now but im not sure if that will be sufficent. My friend rode it and told me he thought it was pinging from 3/4 throttle up.
Would my quad run if the jet size was 270 and all I had was the snorkle removed with the stock carbs?
Also how can I tell if I have stock carbs or not?

Thanks that was exactly what I was looking for Now what to do about those bolts that hold the bracket for the lower tie rod end? The welds are broken on everyone.
