wacko2000 Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 Whats up guys i have to replace my shift shaft, i just ordered a new one, i was wondering how hard it is.. the only think that im concerned about is pulling the clutch out, i have never messed with the clutch before.. will i have to readjust the clutch or anything? do i need any special tools, the cylmer shows some tool while pulling the clutch.. thanks Quote
2smokefan Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 i would. and inspect the click pack depending on the hours it has also these are handy http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/tools/...h_holding_tool/ may check the forks and shft cam(not sure if it's the proper name) also Quote
wacko2000 Posted August 26, 2008 Author Report Posted August 26, 2008 is it possible to inspect the shifting forks without spliting the cases.. the reasone why im changing this, is bc im having shifting problems and im trying to narrow it down. Quote
2smokefan Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 sorry but you have to split it to do that. you'll also need a tool to pull the stator to split the cases. What shifting problems are you having? Quote

What shifting problems are you having? i cant shift from 3rd-4th under load, i have to let off the throttle completely to shift. i was told that its either a bent shift shaft or fork so thats where im at now. Ryda85 Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 shift shaft is easy, you need a 32mm socket to take off the clutch basket, you can use a " grab it " tool to hold the clutch. i have just used the rear brake and someone holding the rear tires from moving.....workes ok for me.....shoot me a pm if you need any help...i live right by you. steve Quote
2smokefan Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 If that's it you may luck out. Since you have someone close offering to help you may want to use that option. may learn some things. just remember sometimes it's good to have the right tool for the job. some spots you can substitute ,sometimes it's even better but being well equipped for the job never hurts  oh and always replace used clips with new.......flat side out Quote

Ryda85 Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 yea i just sent you a pm back. this will be my 1st time ripping into the side of the motor but the pics in the clymers look easy enough...nah just playing. i have installed / removed clutch baskets before, i installed the shift pro mod a few months back, and just adjusted my shift shaft 2 weeks ago....either way let me know what you want to do. ps you might as well save the 200 labor they were going to charge you and buy a shift pro mod and a modified shift star instead and install them while you are in there. ClimbAnyHill Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 Shift Pro & a modified Shift Star are a good team for Banshee shifting! I did both and makes life easier. If you lift the banshee, turn the wheels and shift gears you'll see if Shift Shaft is reaching the Shift Star and pulling it to the next gear! Clutch adjustment is easy too, I think I'm pulling my cover off this weekend, if so I'll post up some pix for you! Quote
_Hex* Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 just have someone hold the basket for u with some shop towels and impact the center nut out Quote
J-Madd Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 just have someone hold the basket for u with some shop towels and impact the center nut out That will work, but the easiest way I have found is to not remove the clutch fibers and plates, only the outer hub(pressure plate). THen you can press on the clutch with your hand (basically engaging the clutch) to slow the rotation of the basket as you try to remove the nut with an impact gun. Works every time for me. Quote
