I plan on ditching the twist throttle and going back to a thumb but today I took off the carb caps and when I put them back on I couldn't get the left carb slide to stay down. I could get it to seat but when I rolled the throttle it would slide up then get hung on the brass pin in the carb. I messed with it for over an hour with no luck no matter how I adjusted the carb cap. What's the trick?

I really only want to have to buy the new cable to go back to a thumb throttle, not the whole tors eliminator kit but I also don't want to kill myself with a stuck throttle!

I dont have the motion pro throttle but I had the same problem when I did the TORS removal. I read on here that if the caps are tightened down to tight it makes the throttle stick. I just do them finger tight and then back them off a 1/8th turn or so and then use the locking clips on them and they never stick now.

Might be your problem.

Locking clips? I didn't see any. What do they do, keep the slide from rotating? If so that seems like it would fix my problem. I tseems that when the slide moves up when I twist the throttle, it (the slide) rotates and won't fall back into position so the slot in the slide and tab in the carb meet up, allowing the slide to fully seat.

Are you sure the little brass guide thing hasn't backed out? I had one do that, just had to push it back in (straight) and ding the aluminum with a punch. The slide shouldn't rotate at all, the clips rtcc is talking about screw into the side of the carb body and engage the top where it threads onto the body (just a small metal L-shaped thing with a notch that matches to one of the nubs on the cap so it can't back off)...mine were gone when I got it so you might not have 'em. You may need to adjust the cable at the twist also, so the slide doesn't raise above that brass guide, it shouldn't have to go that high to get full throttle. Good luck.

I am talking about the brass colored locking clip or tab on the outside of the carb. It is loosened and tightened with an philips screw. It has teeth that fit the ridges on the carb tops.

Also, make sure that the carb slides arent in the wrong carbs.

Its kinds tricky but they can be installed on the wrong side and then they make all kinds of problems.

I was afraid I might have gotten them crossed up. I read Ben's jetting FAQ but I'm still unsure how to tell which slide goes to which carb.

True that. Look at the bottom of the slide, where the needle hangs; one side of the slide his an angled "cutaway" from the base upwards, that should face the airbox.

Glad you found it. I'll hafta remember that I've never heard that happening, and I usually tighten mine pretty damn tight you musta put some gorilla torque on them suckers lol!

Actually no I didn't put much torque on them, the spring was just binding up. We oiled the cap, spring, slide, etc, but the spring was just binding up in the slide and causing the slide to rotate when the cap was tightened. I had to back off the cap almost 1 full turn from as tight as I could get with my fingers just to get the spring to quit binding and spinning the slide.
