TeamRealtreeHD Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 A buddy has a bike that is ported, pipes, filter, reeds, stock carbs, and stock timing. Where should his pickup gap be at? And if he advanced the timing to +4, where would it be set at then? Quote

TeamRealtreeHD Posted August 6, 2008 Author Report Posted August 6, 2008 The reason why I ask is because the same guy who I watched tear my stator cover off and look at it when it wasn't running did his bike. And I saw first hand him look at mine and tell me it was OK. So I was just wondering when we got the chance to look at it what it should be at with his mods... Quote
TeamRealtreeHD Posted August 6, 2008 Author Report Posted August 6, 2008 We are going to try gapping his like mine. I am anxious to see what his is currently set at. Quote
xXBlessedWithDeathXx Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 shit man. i think the gap is .025 to .028 i`m not positive but i`m sure someone will chime in. Quote
TeamRealtreeHD Posted August 6, 2008 Author Report Posted August 6, 2008 No, it's more than that. It is like .032 or .035. I just go by the eye now that Butch showed me where it is SUPPOSED to be. Quote
TeamRealtreeHD Posted August 6, 2008 Author Report Posted August 6, 2008 You want to hear a good one? The local mechanic saw mine was at like .092.-093 and was like "well, it's not the pickup". Then obviously I take his word for it, and that's why I was having all my problems... bad advice Quote
TeamRealtreeHD Posted August 6, 2008 Author Report Posted August 6, 2008 (edited) Yea, you're right. I just looked it up in the clymer. I had it written down after I looked it up awhile back Could you imagine... mine was at .092-.093? Wow... Edited August 6, 2008 by TeamRealtreeHD Quote

TeamRealtreeHD Posted August 6, 2008 Author Report Posted August 6, 2008 Just enough to see daylight though it while it passes... Quote
jbooker82 Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 I just use a matchbook cover or business card. Make sure to check both nodes and set it on the tighter one. Quote
shanYE west Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 I set all my pickup gaps at .017 Quote
mdhc500 Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 The MM says .015 - .020, and mine is set at .018 (for a matter of reference)... Quote
okbeast Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 Just enough to see daylight though it while it passes... .020" isn't really something you can just eyeball btw Quote
