mopar1rules Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 is there any benifit to modding the pistons on a banshee? i am using pro-x cast pistons and was wondering if it would be helpful to open up the intake ports on the sides of the piston? either wider, or taller, or both? what about cutting the skirts some, so the flow isn't so blocked to the transfers.....or isn't it (skirt cutting) needed? BellicoseBanshee Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 Kevin Herr offers some kind of piston work on his site. It is called 'piston lighten and cut.' I believe he has a link in his signature that has pictures of what he does to the pistons. EDIT: HERE it is. And THIS... Quote
jharader Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 I had the same idea tell i realized they wont be balanced after you cut on the windows unless you compensate somehow on the exhaust side... Quote
mopar1rules Posted July 19, 2008 Author Report Posted July 19, 2008 i see what you are saying jharader. thanks for the links BellicoseBanshee. Quote
blowit Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 Shortening the skirt is a no no. That will decrease piston life dramatically. Yes you can open up the piston windows but too much and they will break. Power boost is around 1HP and not recommended for dune or trail applications. Brandon Quote

mopar1rules Posted July 24, 2008 Author Report Posted July 24, 2008 you would think that if herr jugs racing does it, that it does work and would be worth the effort and time. Quote
Wildcardracing Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 I don't offer it on any of my builds and especially don't recommend it on cast pistons. The power gain as blowit said is only 1-2 hp and isnt' worth the reliability lost IMO. I've seen several engines come apart with less than a tank of fuel through them because the builder took too much material out of the windows and pistons broke. Just my .02, It's more of a drag specific option and on a drag motor that 1-2hp could be the difference between loosing and winning. Quote

mopar1rules Posted July 25, 2008 Author Report Posted July 25, 2008 ok, i'm for sure not doing it. i was just a little stubborn at first with believing that it isn't worth it, but now it sunk in. thanks guys for the info. Quote
