wacko2000 Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 So guys i need some input here.. My bike has had a steady 150 psi since it was built like 6 months ago by Jim@passion.. I always seem to find sand and little shit in my airbox and boots where it connects to the carbs.. My compression is now at like 120psi, is this from sand and dirt getting in there? i run airbox with no lid, can you guys please tell me what to do to keep this shit out or is it impossible.. and when i wash the bike i always feel like water is getting in the motor from the airbox.. please guys tell me why the compression has dropped like this.. wesw Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 what filter you running or what type of filter might be better to ask. are you using an outerwear with the sand. one way to know is pull the head and look at the bore if you see scratchs well you know your answer. Quote

Very possible its getting sand or??? in there do you run a precharger sleeve on your filter, whats the deal on your bike last I heard you dropped it off to get looked at, what did they find? Quote

Never mind just read your other post, that was probably a lot cheaper than you thought. Quote
wacko2000 Posted July 2, 2008 Author Report Posted July 2, 2008 I run a k&n air filter..I never used to run a outerwear, bought it, used it for 3-4 rides and havent ran it since... does the outerwear help out alot? Dragbanshee- yea its wasnt that bad, the guy worked on the bike for acouple of hours, rebuilt my carbs bc they where leaking alittle and only charged my $300.. but i had a stator for him, unless it would have been like another 150 for the part.. But my concern now is the loss in compression, he said that my air filter was pretty clogged and that shit was getting in the motor. so would this cause a drop like this? Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 (edited) I also run a outerware AND i also get an old pair of pantie hose from the old lady and cut two layers of it to fit over top of my airbox and it dosen't let ANYTHING in....rocks dirt or dust, just air...try it man it works. Beats paying k/n 80 bux for there cover Edited July 2, 2008 by savage420 Quote
wacko2000 Posted July 2, 2008 Author Report Posted July 2, 2008 you run a outerwear and then put the pantie hose over the outwear aswell? Quote
Titan up Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 Also Look to see if you have scratches on the slides inside your carbs. Back when I was running the stock air box setup and even the bolt in pro flo air filter kit my bike would suck a lot of sand, due to all the clamping connections in the stock intake system(carbs, boots, box, then air filter) If your not riding through water,I would suggest running pod filters. The Pods clamp right to the carb so they totaly minimizes the chance of shit entering your engine. Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 I run a pro flow adapter then a k/n single with an outerware and then over my air box i run two layers of the pantie hoes shit with elastic bands holding it on ...works effin awesome man all my buddies seen it and asked where they could buy it...i almost took there money too. Try it ..you can always take it off. Quote
wacko2000 Posted July 2, 2008 Author Report Posted July 2, 2008 the bike still breathes nicey nice with that ontop... so pretty much the pantie hose takes the place of the air lid correct? Quote

I kno man, i hear ya there, there are sooo many dam clamps and rubbers to worry about leaking, ripping and what not.. i do run across some water and nasty mud, even though i go around as much as i can i dont want to take the chance with pods, i have tried them and im extra nervous with them on.. I am real concerned about my drop in compression though, and im leaving for a trip on wednesday.. Quote

It breaths just fine...and yes it basically replaces the airlid which non of us want anyway...go ask your mom or old lady for a "clean" pair ...lmao and hold it up to your mouth and breath through it wont even know it's there..it's all good bro+ it's a free mod to keep unwanted particles out   Quote
