87bansheeguy Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Hey i have a 1987 banshee with some kind of aftermarket reeds, 12 tooth front sprocket, twin K&N air filters, fmf gold series fatty pipes with powercoreII silencers, and a boost bootle. I think this is a pretty good setup for low end with the 12 tooth and everything. What other mods can i get to drasticly increase performance to just little things. Also i do not want to change my engine size or port anytime soon. What parts of the clutch are essientail to replace also? Quote
jamebo Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Welcome to the HQ, 87bansheeguy. I would say some basic mods would be to replace the boost bottle with the stock crossover tube, and get a coolhead and timing plate. That should give you a decent boost in power if your not ready for porting yet. Quote
okbeast Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Not really any parts of the clutch that are essential, but if things get worn out your clutch will slip or not disengage well. As for more bolt-ons I'd say an adjustable timing plate and coolhead would help out your whole power range. I happen to have a coolhead for sale  http://www.bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=96190 Depending on your elevation and riding temps though you'd probably have to run race gas with the 18cc domes and get your crank welded. Otherwise the 22cc domes might suit you well. Quote

Yes you can, but some say that messes with the dome shaping and how the fuel burns. At your point in the game probably not an issue. Quote

okbeast Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 I'd probably start with .020. Be sure to check your squish after you do this, just to be sure. And i'd try ebay for the adjustable timing plate, probably cheaper than ricky stator. Quote

And i will get my heads shaved .020 I dont know a whole lot about engines and i was thinking about getting a lightweight flywheel how much of a performance dif. will this make. Then comes pistons how much hp/tq. can i exspect to get out of getting either standard prolite pistons or overboring and is there more changes required to overboring or pros and cons Quote
okbeast Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Going to a bigger bore before needed is pointless, you will not gain anything from going .020 bigger, unless it's needed. Quote
