deerekillr Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 So heres the deal. I bought this basket case shee last summer to "save" money. Bullshit! So anyway, she's all painted up and going back together. Besides missing half the fuckin parts, the engine that was supposed to be solid had a fucked cylinder. So I rip the engine apart and as i'm pulling the head off I notice the head gasket still in there. Now, i'm no fuckin genius and have no experience with cool head but i'm pretty sure that the head gasket shouldnt be there. So here's where I need help. The guy I bought this thing from was a "racer". I mean, he had trophies up the ass all over the garage but what the fuck does that mean anyway, not that he knows how to put his shit together but I would hope to god that he would. So heres the questions that I cant find answers to anywhere. Do I put the head gasket in under the cool head. I hope fuckin not, it just seems wrong. Wouldnt that defeat the whole fuckin purpose of being able to swap domes with all the pretty fuckin o-rings sealing her up? And does the coil have to be hooked up a specific way, orange on any specific terminal and black on another or does it not matter? I'll be back with more stupid questions as the build progresses. There are some good parts on the motor and I definitely need tuning help when the time comes.... Quote
sinisterboo Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 orange wire is on the front post on my bike. and are we talking a stock thin head gasket? or a thick copper one? and take something for the Terrets. Quote
deerekillr Posted May 31, 2008 Author Report Posted May 31, 2008 Thanks for the coil info! Sorry about the terrets, I just started taking my medicine....where the hell did I leave that Guinness anyway??? The head gasket I pulled out of the motor looks like the thin stamped steel one that came with my Wiseco gasket set. Nothing fancy, just a crappy thin little pressed steel gasket with raised parts around the cylinder and the fuckin water ports. Sorry, I really need to find that Guinness...... Quote
sinisterboo Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 trash it, get a new oring kit, little grease on the orings to hold em in place and bam, you're done. and with more compression than before cuz u dont have the stock gasket in there. Quote
deerekillr Posted May 31, 2008 Author Report Posted May 31, 2008 Thanks man, thats what I wanted to hear. I just had the cyls sent out and they had to go .080" over to get them clean. I've got new o-rings and studs for the cool head to replace the mismatched crap so i'm ready to get her together. I think compressions going to be the least of my problems with the new cyls .080 over, some sort of mx port job, and the 18cc domes. I think i'm looking at too much compression for what I want. Thanks again, great info! james Quote
