I am trying to help a friend out. He rebuild his 1987 banshee's top end. It does not want to run right now. It is hard to start IMO. And once running, just as soon as the bike starts to hit the powerband, it falls on it's face. It really feels like a false rev limiter.

It has set a long time before rebuilding. It's in my possession and here's what I've found out about it. Both cylinders are holding nice compression. Pistons are in right. Reeds look good. Carbs are clean and jetting is close. It has t-3's for now. I'm confident it's not mechanical issues... i.e. carbs, pistons, reeds, etc. I'm thinking electronics. Either stator, cdi, coil, etc. It's spark looks weak to me when I kick it. Reminder.. hard to start and it's probably blowing the flame out once on the band. That's where I need your experience... is there anything I can test for? Where would you start?

Thanks

Adam

I know you said that the pistons are in right but I have seen it before where a 2 stroke will run with pistons in backwards but not right. Also what was the reason for rebuilding? IS the head warped etc etc..

Good Luck

I know, that's why I stuck my head in there and looked at both pistons

So everybody agrees that if I replace the stator, I will be doing the right thing? Is there anyway to test what it is putting out?

Nobody knows how to/if I can test the output of a banshee stator at idle?

You can test the stator with a ohm meter or a multitester with it on the bike. Have the bike off when testing it.
