ok i wanna get some work done to my quad. i really have nothing now but i want to get into drags, but for now i dont want to be fully drags. i have been talking to a builder and i think i have the setup i want. i just want some feedback on how well i can drag with it. i dont plan on racing a full blown drag. just intry level stuff.

ok here it is. get my stoch stuff cut for 4 mil and a dune port, CPI inframes, 32 mikuni's (bored to 35's when i get the 4 mil), + however much swinger, and sum 10 paddle skat tracks. what do you think? can i drag with that?

just a guess on HP?

Sounds good, it will be a fast bike. I didn't see anything about pod filters or reeds in there. Get some v force. Add a dyna ignition. That set up will be very competitive in the local sand pits. Should be a blast to ride.

Your paddle and swinger selection will depend on each other and your weight. You can get away w/a very aggressive dune port, or mild drag port and still dune(I duned a drag port for a couple years). Wouldn't go any longer than a +6 if if you want to do any serious duning and 9 paddle if you are mid weight to heavy, a 10 paddle if you are light. And rather than spending $200 on reeds, put it toward a dunable override. You will be much happier! If you have money for both, that is a bonus! Depending on how aggressive your port is you may or may not need a lockup. I got away w/Toomey springs on an 80 horse bike untill I got an override. Once I got the override, it started eating clutches. That oughta give ya a little to think about for now!

I would get a set of shearer inframes instead of the cpis.

From my experience, when i switched over to the shearers I gained

a bit more top end. Also I didnt have any trouble duning my bike

despite what you read here about the shearers not having any bottom

or midrange. And the stingers fit around the air filters better than

the cpis. If you have access to race fuel, you should also get a cool

head and get your builder to recommend you some domes for race fuel.

And lets not forget a timing plate.

A good 4mill duneported engine on race

gas makes a really fun powerplant.

yes go with the shearers and you can get by with 8 over swinger i would go a 10 maybe even check on those new vito cylinders they look stock but have tripple exhaust ports made in them sleeper look

Nick...

Wait till you're ready to get into drag racing fully.

If not, you're going to buy twice the stuff to get to the same final destination.

Trust me...once you get that taste, it's all over.

i think how i am going to do it is to buy first off the pipes, head, carbs and maybe pods (can i run the pro flow kit i have now?) then i will buy a swingarm and the crank and send it off to be ported. by this time i should have run a few races i think and i will know if i want to full out drag. if i full out drag racing will a 4mil drag port be anywhere near a cub?

Couple different ways to think about this...

Can it be competitive with a cub? Sure... can you setup a 4 mil stocker cheaper? Not really.

A very well done 4 mil stocker with triple exhaust and aux. intake ports will set you back some bucks.

In reality, a 4 mil cub cylinder cleaned up is great, great drag racing power.

Then there's setup. Chassis, suspension, transmission (Override, no iffs ands or butts) lockup....

That's why i say do it right the first time, instead of paying for things twice....

Don't waste your time with an airbox on a drag bike. You will not find a single drag bike running an air box, it will ALWAYS be pod filters, K&N or foam....

or u could throw on a cub with the stock crank.....

like dave said do it rite the first time, this is my 3rd rebuild in to years to make it faster. this time im goin 4 mill cub, overide, 39 pwks ,oof pipes,+10 swing and so on and so on.... it never ends !!!! but i still love it

what does it mean when people say unrideable? like a drag quad is unrideable anywhere but drags. tha is the main reason i want to go this route. im not sure i want to fully commit to drags and nothing else unless i could afford to buy a cheaper quad to mess around on and i dont think i can. no dropping that much in a draggster

I think what you need to do is get a nice dune ported set of cylinders, setup your bike that way...and come out drag racing. See if you like it.

Once you cross over...you don't go back. Drag bikes make more HP, but in a very narrow range, they're low to the ground, stiff or NO suspension (struts) and like a fresh groomed flat track.

Get a fast duner...see if you like to drag race with it....I think you will. Really, though...a drag bike is a purpose built bike.

Ideally you have two. One is a strict drag bike, the other is a low maintenance, fun and easy to ride dune/trail bike. Enter the 450 4 pokes. They're great at both of those....

so you think the dune port is a good idea? i forgot what he told me, can a dune port be reported to a drag port? brandon said his was very rideable and can keep up with a lot of drag quads. i plan to do the same thing only 4 mil. can i ride this is trails? like big open trails? just curious

will a +6 swinger keep the front end down on a 4 mil dune port?
