PanteraCFH420 Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 I was wondering if i needed to make any modifications to put a '89 motor in a '97. I was told i might need a '89 wiring harness but thats just what i was told. Thanks for the help. Quote

PanteraCFH420 Posted May 6, 2008 Author Report Posted May 6, 2008 Alright, ill look into it. Thanks. Anyone else? Quote
hylander88 Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 yep the stator should be the only thing you should have to change... Quote
PanteraCFH420 Posted May 7, 2008 Author Report Posted May 7, 2008 So what exactly would i have to do? I have a 89 and a 97 motor but the 97 motor top end is really bad so i just bought the 89 motor. Quote
endofitall9 Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 you can cut the plugs off the cdi and the stator and put on the plugs from the 89 model or you can just change the electrics so you dont have to cut anything other than that theres nothing else different......... Quote
yama_banshee87 Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 what i did was take a plug from an 87 and plug from a 97 and splice it in so i didnt have to do that. i have it done on my bike with no problems Quote
Snopczynski Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 why didn't you just swap over the 97 stator? Quote
bansheejoel Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Swop out the top ends exactly what i was thinking, either that or buy a different wiring harness Quote
PanteraCFH420 Posted May 7, 2008 Author Report Posted May 7, 2008 So do i need to change the stator AND the CDI plugs? I would just switch the top end but the reason i bought a new engine is beacuse in the '97 motor the right piston blew apart there was a hole in it and tiny pieces of metal went down into the crank and i dont know if it cause any damage down there. I cleaned it out really good but i just decided to buy a new engine and rebuilt it. Quote
Snopczynski Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 this isn't rocket science. If you dont have the right stator on the new motor, then you swap the stator onto it from the old motor. Now if you did that, why would you need a new cdi plug? Quote

Now if you did that, why would you need a new cdi plug? thats what i say too........just change the stators......... Quote
