bent marks on plastics

hello eaveryone I'm new to this furum and this is my first post. I just bought a 2000 banshee, got a good deal but she needs a little bit of work. first I am curently In the process of changing all the oil seals. the right crank seal is leaking. other than that the bike is in good shape. the plastic does show signs that the bike has been rolled before, theres some destress marks where the plastics been bent.

the fenders are blue and where the bends are its a liter shade of blue. I was told that a heat gun can get those out like they've never been there. has anyone tried this.

Haven't tried it on bike plastics myself, but i have heard the same thing. I have used the heat gun on a couple of interior panels i was modifying in my truck and it worked great. I say give it a go. Nothing to lose really. I would say be carfull and dont let the gun sit in one spot too long. If you have a good gun it could melt or blister them. Hopefully sombody will chime in who has done it and give some tips.

A heat gun will help get the plastics back into shape once they are bent though it wont restore the blue in the stretch marks on the plastics. Well it didnt for me :sad: . Maybe my heat gun wasnt hot enough. A nice elka covers it well! hehe

yes I've done it to my brothers banshee that is also blue. you can get the white stress marks to go away

but you need a heat gun with some balls. you gotta be carefull though cause you can melt the plastics very easy!! set your heat gun on about 1300* to start off, start warming up the stress line and as soon as it starts to change color in that area pull the heat gun away and let it cool a little. its a slow process but it will come out looking good with some patience. warm the same area back up if the line is still there and repeat the process. Take your time when you do this if you want it to come out nice. some spots I had to turn up the heat gun to about 1800* or so, and that was tuff to work with cause it would heat up the plastic to fast.. well good luck..

thanks guys, I'll find a heat gun and try it. My plans are to throw it back together for the summer and ride and when the snow comes I'll tear it apart and rebiuld it and ad some mods.
