shrimp Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 has anyone seen this? the coolent going out the over flow. temp getting to 190. stop and check rad. and its low. left pipe smoking alot more then the right. Quote
rubberneck Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 At only 190, it shouldn't be puking out the overflow, so my guess would be combustion leak into the water jacket. Probably head not sealed correctly. Did you check your squish clearance before you fired it up? What kind of head are you using? Quote
Ducman Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 I had my dome o-rings and a few others start to melt shortyly after I broke in my 4mil cub. I tried all kinds of stuff to help cure my precieved overheating problem, jetting, timming, billet impeller, toomey radiator before I figured it out. I finally determined that it wasn't even getting very hot and puking fluid and I read on this forum about melted orings causing this. In fact I think my engine is just starting to do this again. Replace the orings in the head, I'd bet they're the problem. Quote
shovelhead Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 what causes the o-rings to melt? too much heat in initial break in or what? just like to know for future reference.. Quote
dajogejr Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 The wrong kinds. Viton orings are the way to go...it's what is supplied with any aftermarket head. It's possible it got pinched upon installation, shit happens. Quote
Animalman294 Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Ya, I've heard of them getting pinched when they get installed, but you would have to get the thing pretty damn hot to melt it.............. Quote
dajogejr Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 You pinch it in towards the cylinder it'll melt in no time. Quote
monster_energy06 Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 for sure head gasket or o-rings had that happen to me on my shee and a few of my sleds Quote
