snowmanzz13 Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 well, i have this basically stock banshee with t5's, and a cool head. I want to build a drag bike, period. I've realised that my banshee doesnt like the mud and water and what not so why not get a 4 poke for that. What will it cost me? this is going to be a project for me over the summer so i can try and save some money and make sure i have enough money to just do it all at one time and not slowly piece it together. Who should i go to for motor work. I'd like to build something with power and reliable but kind of maintain that stock/sleeper look. maybe a 421 cub or something of that nature Basically, what am i looking at purchasing(list of what i need and prics roughly) ? thanks for your replies sorry for the newbie questions, but i want to do my homework on this and do it right the first time Quote
06BaNsHeE Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Keep it a standup and build a 421 cub on alky.Give nate a call tell him i sent you.Hes getting really into asphault.1-530-902-3052.Keep it on stock swingarm strapped down in the front.Thats how all the bikes are down here stand up bike will cost what the motor costs thats it.Keep it on knobbies and race it at labbele and youll have fun. lowbuckracing Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 If your looking to drag and keep it cheap, then race a slower time bracket.Your gonna hear a thousand options..what it comes down to is how fast do you wanna go and how much are you willing to spend?Keep your stock cylinders and have them drag ported for 500 and up,depending on who you use,use a 4 mill crank,Also will need to upgrade carbs, another 300-600 depending on type, alky or gas...get a 4 mill crank and install yourself for about 500..after gaskets....domes and heads range from 275 up...for my porting I use Herrjugsracing.Kevin is a member here on the hq..There are alot of reputable guys on here also,Like fast, passion, and many others..Good luck and welcome to your Draggon!!!Lowbuckracing Quote
snowmanzz13 Posted April 16, 2008 Author Report Posted April 16, 2008 i figured this would get expensive quick... lol but my banshee would prolly like it mor then mud. So, i guess i'll call nate and start throing around ideas with him. And also, lowbuck you said keep my stock jugs, the ones i have now are on there last bore... So should i just get good stock jugs an have a drag port done and run cut domes for the longer rods? Quote
dajogejr Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 You can only go so far with the sleeper look. A 421 cub on a stock arm with the front strapped down would get it's ass handed to it by a 350 motor with the correct chassis setup. Losing with a bigger motor on a shitty setup makes you twice the jackass, IMO... (No offense, Patriot Lover, just telling him how it is...) It's a drag bike...there's no secrets in that. Before you worry about anything, get a budget and dollar amount. Then take that amount...increase it by 30%...and you have your actual budget. Quote
docjcwatson Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Well I started building my drag bike just over 3 months ago. When I first read your post, a few questions came to mind. How far do you want to race? 330 ft. 660 ft. Or 1320? These are the most common. Next question is, dirt or asphalt? I bought a roller first, because I didn't have a bike already. So I had to worry about getting a motor too. Everybody that you ask will tell you to go with their motor builder, because they are the best. I went with the one who seemed the most competant, and would give me a motor with work done to it, for a fairly decent price. Like I said, that was 3 months ago. I have already spent close to $10k on my build. It gets expensive when you try to lay down big numbers. My bike is strictly for asphalt. I have talked to a lot of the guys on here. They are all helpful and willing to give advice when they can. - Justin Quote
06BaNsHeE Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 (edited) sorry Dave but have you actually ridden one like that?In miami we dont race standups VS sitdown bikes. And you get WAY more races of a standup bike.Snowman youve seen my bike.Put it like that take it to labelle and race it and have fun.Dont worry about going to the track here none of the fast people go.Just keep it stand up and learn how to drive the bike.Show up to labelle on a sunday youll see what im talking about :cool:Yea call nate tho hell get you running. And we all run 1/4 here but if you call nate and tell him about jorge and herb and the rest of them hell now how to get you going Edited April 16, 2008 by 06BaNsHeE Quote
dajogejr Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 What is a stand up vs. sit down bike...I don't know what you're talkin bout... I have ridden two potent 421 cubs, mine and JTs. And either of them on a stock swinger on pavement, sand...whatever, would've been an absolute joke to ride. With the front end in the air all the time....you're not going fast... Quote
dajogejr Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Ahhh.. We call 'em swung out and slammed up here, I've never heard the term stand up or sit down... Quote
shanYE west Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Its a Miami thing Dave. Use stock swingers on 150hp motors in stock frames in the streets and have 18mil's built and tell people its only a 4mil. Whats next? lol Even Lil Dan's 350 with the front straped down and a 6 over arm lifted the front up bad.. Whats the point of getting the big motors if you can't get it to hook? Guess I'll never understand.. Oh well... party on man! Quote
dajogejr Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Yea us Cubans are just idiots lol Yo Quiero Taco Bell!!!! Plus, you like the Dolphins...so, I take that with a grain of salt.... :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao: Yeah, what you guys do down there just doesn't make sense to us up here....no biggie. Shayne, that's our new challenge. Build big motors, stock swingers....and see who runs the best times...LOL. Quote
06BaNsHeE Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 And honestly what you guys do up there makes no sense for us down here? Why only run 300FT why not longer and see what the motor can really do?Different strokes for for different folks but you guys will just never understand how shit is down here so keep on with your stupid comments Fouledout.Dont really care :geek:.We do what we gotta do to be fast here you gotta do what you gotta do to be fast there.Just leave it at that well never understand eachothers way of racing Quote
dajogejr Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Spoken like a true enraged Dolphins fan...it's ok, what the chance they'll go almost without victory 2 years in a row...? Hmmm... He didn't mean anything by it, just stating big motors on stock chassis simply can't put the power to the ground and be as fast as a "sit down" bike.... I would bet there is more people running 300 feet than street racing like you guys do down there. However.... I'd bet there is more money to be made/lost with what you're doing.... I just don't care for all the deception....here's what I got...beat it or get beat. Have fun in the end.... Like you said, different strokes for different folks. Quote
SQUIRREL MASTER Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 in miami we race stand up. thats what the majority of the racing scene does. if the majority was to have a drag bike im sure more people will have drag bikes. at the local track you might see 1 to 5 drag bikes ready to run. across the street from the local drag strip you have 10 to 30 stand up bikes ready to run. like o6banshee said might sound stupid but thats the way it is. big motors race down here on a stock set up and strapped down to the floor. it might sound like a wheely factory for you guys but people down here know how to keep that front end down and still launch with power. and yeah everybody down here has a lil 4mill. lol.
