bunboy1 Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 hi all, i just got done doing a rebuild and now she wont start. instead of firing up, she makes a noise similar to that of a stick shift car putting a reverse when you are driving forward. it smells like it wants to start, and my my brand new hour meters says 0.1 hour on it now. what do i do? thanks in advance Quote
bansheejoel Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 top and bottom end or just top? i assume you already cleaned out the carbs and put fresh gas in, checked spark, and make sure the gas is making it into the carbs. give that a try... Quote
bunboy1 Posted April 10, 2008 Author Report Posted April 10, 2008 i did a top and bottom. i am using gas that was sitting since thanksgiving. do you think that gas is bad? i also installed the tors removal kit on it. i unplugged the ignition box located under the left front fender. was i supposed to remove something else for it to start? the carbs are freshly rebuilt. thanks Quote
Hilarious Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 Did you go into the bottom end? Did you have the stator off the engine? If so, check the pickup gap between the pickup on the stator and one of the little nubs on the flywheel. Set it to .020 or .019. Quote
bunboy1 Posted April 12, 2008 Author Report Posted April 12, 2008 thanks for the input. i checked the gap on the flywheel and it was off. i set it to .019, but the damn thing still does not want to start. it shoots high pressure air out of the exhaust. do you guys think my timing is off. i set it to +4. please help. WildShee Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 I just got done doing a top end on my 98. Couldnt get it fired so we pulled it with another quad. Put it in second gear and got up to speed and popped the clutch and she fired. did the break in now it fires first kick every time Quote
hollisatp Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 (edited) check your idle setting and the slides.. are they in ther right way? I had the idel too high and it wouldnt start at all after my rebuild.. there should be only a small (2-3mm) gap for air to enter the carb.. Edited April 21, 2008 by hollisatp Quote
